Stayed weekend of 17th January. We were left a key at front door with a note stating room number and continental breakfast will be delivered to room in mornings. Bar and restaurant in darkness so no chance of a well needed beverage on arrival. Large airy room but double bed mattress very uncomfortable and part felt like it had lost all its spring creating a large dip in the middle. Could not see out of window as it was clouded with dirt or possibly blown panel? Shower great. Towels good quality and room clean. Breakfast did not arrive on either morning and no one around to ask. Spent the Friday evening in the crown next door, lovely warm welcome. We went back there Saturday for food and drinks which were both fab and the singer was wonderful. Our stay would have been made better with a warm welcome, an explanation of breakfast and maybe a drink. Beautiful location.

We had a wonderful afternoon in the cosy bar, with a crackling fire, yesterday. Although we were initially the only guests (not surprising given the time of day and year and the lashings of rain), we were made so welcome. The young lady greeting and serving us is an absolute credit to this hotel. Had really good capuccini with warmed fruit scones served with butter, cream and strawberry jam. Very reasonably priced and delicious. Loved everything about our visit, thank you.

********DO NOT BOOK ******** Has gone into administration……. I am surprised that you can still book online?????? This has not been disabled! You will lose your money! I booked through booking .com arrived to find everything locked up and no one there! No notice from the hotel to say it was no longer open, disgusting! Went to The Crown hotel, Portpatrick harbour, down the road and was made most welcome. Other people from The harbour house were also in the crown and had basically lost all their money as they had booked directly through the harbour house hotel. Luckily as I had booked through booking.com I got my £237.00 back. It was a very sad scenario, I feel terribly sorry for those people as it is a long way to drive to Portpatrick, especially from London as was my case. *******DO NOT BOOK********

Not stayed there was there for a drink only. Was intending to get a meal but too expensive for me. I only gave it three stars as dogs are allowed in which is fine but it smells of wet dogs and seats are covered in hair. It needs to be cleaned properly so wouldn't recommend it. I would add if you are a dog owner) lover you probably wouldn't notice the smell but it's not for me.

A very likeable pub-hotel on the seafront. Although there is no parking right outside at all (ignore at least one other reviewer) there is plenty of parking past the hotel alongside the inner harbour (with slow EV chargers on the far side). The room was on the small side yet was difficult to keep warm with the electric heater. Very comfortable bed and the lighting was good. The shower was excellent (and don’t underestimate how uncommon this is in the UK) with beautiful simple controls (left on/off; right thermostat control). No need for experimenting for ten minutes while being jet-washed in icy water. The water pressure was actually too high. It’s a long time since I’ve had to dial it down a lot. The food can be a bit hit and miss. The lamb was superb but the scampi was very dried out. The prawn and crayfish starter was very nice. Would have been nice to see provenance on the menu to show what is sourced locally. The bar/waiting staff are cheerful, helpful and chatty and it’s a very welcoming place. Although a dog-lover (and dog-owner) I felt that there needs to be a request for dogs to be kept under control: staff need to be mindful and aware of the hassle dogs roaming around off the lead, barking and blocking the passageway. Most people are fairly tolerant of dogs but it felt a bit much at times and this will lose the place custom unless managed. The endless country music can be a bit tiresome hour after hour but it *is* unusual and may appeal to some. Much as I really do like the Harbour House (and will stay again), I would have eaten several nights at The Crown because of the dogs/music. It’s a friendly, engaging place and excellent value.

Can't believe there are some bad reviews for this hotel. Where else could you go in the UK to match the stunning views you get from the hotel for such a reasonable price? Our 2 rooms were immaculate and spacious. lovely sea views from the restaurant, though you have to sit in the spacious bar if you have a dog. The harbour walk outside inside and flat for the elderly, but if you are younger you can walk along the cliff either to the right or to the little ruined castle on the left. Staff were really kind and helpful. Thank you!

Seems a popular place to eat. We visited on a dull February Tuesday and they were quite busy! Just had soup and a roll. Followed by cheesecake and coffee. Delicious and good sized portions.

Wee gem of a hotel - fabulous location and great service. Embarrassingly had to reveal to the staff that I was currently watching Downton Abbey and was getting spoilers from the movie on the TV (I know it's cringe shut up) but they kindly changed the channel. I regret forcing Strictly Come Dancing on the other punters but hey, life goes on. Rooms were very spacious. Absolutely exceptional shower and a huge bed. Live music a wee bit loud but like... it's a Saturday night so you shouldn't be going to bed at 9pm anyway. The only downfall was the meal - really poor vegetarian options and the one we did choose (mushroom pasta) was not nice at all. Even just switching the pasta from penne to tagliatelle would make a difference (in my unprofessional opinion). Just a warning to anyone else like us who is cursed with vegetarianism. Overall though, great stay for sure. Recommend the walk from the hotel to Killantringan Lighthouse across the coastal path - incredible views.
