Unfortunately, our stay at Harbourview House was quite disappointing. I was travelling with two adults and our small dog (a toy poodle), and while the cabin itself was clean and well-presented, the overall experience was let down by poor communication and rude staff.
We arrived after staffed hours and tried calling for about 45–60 minutes with no answer. Eventually, a friendly lady did pick up and helped us access the lockbox, which was appreciated and started things off on a positive note.
However, things quickly went downhill. Around 10:30 PM, another guest checked in and made quite a lot of noise, slamming car doors and talking loudly right outside our cabin. Naturally, our dog got startled and barked briefly. Not long after, I received a call from the owner, who was unnecessarily rude and told me to “CONTROL” my dog in a very abrupt tone. I would have expected more understanding, especially since we had paid extra to stay in a dog-friendly cabin.
The next morning, things escalated further. A cleaning staff member approached us and, quite rudely, told us to leave immediately. This was an incredibly upsetting end to what could have been a pleasant stay.
While the room and location were good, the way we were treated made us feel extremely unwelcome. If you're advertising your property as dog-friendly, there should be a basic level of empathy and professionalism, especially when dealing with paying guests. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
