Harley-Davidson Powertrain Operations

We were in town for some business, a Harley Davidson dealer meeting, and decided to take the tour of the power chain plant. It was very interesting to see everything it made, to see pallets of brand new parts. We went on a Friday, which I understand is a slower day for them so there wasn’t quite as much to see. I would think that if you went Monday through Thursday, that might be the best bet.

Dream come true. The lady guide was very friendly and she knew a lot about the whole manufacturing process. Small group, felt very comfortable. At reception the lady was also very kind. Loved it!

Was in the 10am tour on 9-5-25 and was absolutely the best time and experience…. 100% worth going and Norah our tour guide was amazing on the knowledge she knew….i can’t imagine telling you how outstanding she was …. 5 stars highly recommend

"Why buy a Harley when you can ride a Indian" Was considering buying a new Harley this winter so to hopefully get a better deal to replace my 04 ultra classic. Now because of the woke agenda to join Anheuser Busch in failure I believe I really am starting to like the look of the New Indian touring bike. Good buy my old pony she is for sale! $4,500!

You guys build absolute garbage!!!!! American made ain't the way to go anymore. Stay away from Harley Davidson. Nothing but a money pit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cost you a hundred dollars just for a light bulb. Crap bikes need work every time you ride!!!!!!!! Go buy Honda. They don't need work.

Not a nice place. Kids under 12 can't go on the expensive tour. This should be disclosed on the web page that won't even let us purchase tickets. A waste of a drive!

Wow! Just Wow! We had a wonderful visit. You couldn't have asked for a better tour! They are awesome! Saw us sitting in our vehicle because we were way early. Came and got us, and got going and had the BEST time! Do it! Spend the time and change to do it!

Admittedly I went on the tour because I wanted to see where my motorcycle engine was built.  But what I saw was much more exciting than just seeing fabrication, machining, and assembly. What I saw was American implementation of lean manufacturing processes.  I saw Kanban boards, team work areas, quality, and just-in-time (what they referred to as supermarkets.)  The facility is clean, with a lot of automation and people doing higher value work that a machine can't do today.  The teams and work are organized so that the teams move to different tasks each day to keep boredom from setting in and to keep repetitive injuries from occurring.  The teams gather at their team boards weekly in a sort of inspect & adapt session. The tour greatly exceeded my expectations.  I went in thinking I was going to experience some type of adoration of my favorite brand and came out feeling good about adoption of lean principles in American manufacturing. If you're in the area, and like motorcycles, manufacturing, or both - then this is a worthwhile stop!

Fantastic tour! They offer 2 different factory tours: a free 30 minute tour and a 2 hour steel toe tour ($38). Prior to showing up at the factory, I'd recommend calling to make sure they have openings on the tour. I went on the free tour and it was so interesting! You get to walk on the factory floor and see where Harley Davidson engines and transmissions are made. The tour guide Michelle really made the tour! She was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and had a passion for Harley Davidson! Not only have I never ridden on a motorcycle, I would not have been able to tell you what a transmission was prior to the tour. I'd definitely recommend this tour for die hard Harley Davidson fans, car enthusiast and also people who don't know the first thing about engines (like myself). There is a small gift shop at the facility that you can wonder around before and/or after the tour. While in town, be sure to also check out the Harley Davidson Museum in downtown Milwaukee.

Just took the steel toe tour with Taylor. She is a great guide, extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Actually all of the staff I interacted with, about 5 different people, were very friendly!! Mahalo for the visit!!

insightful tour of one of the greatest motorcycles in the world! our tour guide Greg was very knowledgeable about the production and assembly of these engines and everything around them (transmission, flywheel, etc) i took the free "classic" tour. first come first serve, plenty of parking

Went to this location for the Engine 101 class and Classic Tour! The tour was interesting, still wish I could have seen the assembly part of the power train. That would have really taken the tour over the edge. The class was entertaining!

Other reviewers say it's a good tour but I'll never know. I was recently passing through the area and had made this tour the focal point of the entire day including booking a prepaid hotel room. I already had tickets that I had purchased online from the HD website. About 3 weeks or so prior to my tour, I received a phone call from a very nice lady whose job it was to bring me down in increments. I was told that I would no longer be able to take the steel toe tour due to some major machine maintenance, but that I would get a modified tour along with a full refund. I was told that I would be well taken care of for the inconvenience. That was fine until a week or so later when I received an email informing me that my modified tour was now cancelled due to a complete closure of the factory. I never really got an answer as to why tour tickets were for sale on the factory website for days that the plant would be closed. Am I to believe that this closure wasn't in the works for several months in advance or do they think it's acceptable to just issue an apology for their extremely poor planning while completely disregarding the effects these things have on their customers? If they were truly sorry, maybe some complimentary tickets to the nearby HD Museum would have been nice, but they weren't that sorry. Perhaps a chrome part of my choice from the catalog shipped to me or a gift card redeemable at the local HD dealership would have said they were sorry, but they weren't sorry. How about a HD T-shirt? Nope, just an apology and a refund. I'll keep checking the mailbox though. I think I'm seeing an Indian Motorcycle in my future.
