We really enjoyed our stay at The Harlingford. This quaint, family-run hotel offers a perfect location for exploring central London on foot. The staff were warm and welcoming. The room had real character. Breakfast was a lovely start to the day, with a good variety and cozy atmosphere. Freelt accessible coffee machine was also very appreciated. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a personable and well-situated place to stay. Only downside if you mind the stairs is that there is no elevator.

I enjoyed my stay here. Everything felt laid back in this hotel, which was good for me after getting off a train from Scotland that had been delayed 3 times. The hotel definitely feels safe, and it's an interesting listed building. The full English Breakfast I had was great!

This is nice Georgian style small family run hotel across from Cartwright Gardens. The rooms are well decorated yet small. Prices are fair. Nice setting and next to a laundry, restaurants, grocery stored, shops and a great nail salon Galaxy Nails. It is between the Russell square and King's Cross stations. Easy 5-10 minutes walking distance to the British Library and the British Museum.

Outstanding value for money! Gorgeous and authentic house in a neat and tidy condition. A lot of tasteful details from the bathroom design to the breakfast room. Lovely, friendly and always helpful staff. Breakfast quality is also very good. I will come back here for sure.

As always, a very pleasant place for a one-night stay in London. The attention to detail in every room I have stayed in means that everything one needs is ready to hand. The breakfast is first rate, and the location is perfect, particularly for travellers from the North, with its proximity to Euston and St Pancras stations

Stayed one night at the start of July. We had a very small room, but that was OK. Nice big bathroom, wasn't expecting bath so that was nice. Shower easy to work. There was no handle on the inside of the bathroom door which made it hard to lock. Nice free toiletries. Plenty of towels. Could do with plug sockets beside the bed. Great fan kept us cool all night. Kettle with lots of tea, coffee and milk. There's a hot drinks machine and ice cold water on the landing which was great. Breakfast was nice, but could've been hotter and definitely need bigger plates. I asked a lady for 2 veggie sausages. Which I never got, shame. The lady who checked us in, around 5pm, was very nice and friendly, and 2 people in the breakfast room where you leave cases before check-in were helpful with our questions. The mattress was so comfy and the pillows were great. Great location, close to public transport and situated in a very quiet area. We'd definitely recommend and stay here again. Thank you very much.

The staff are very friendly. The single room is tastefully decorated, modern, clean, with a lovely view of Cartwright Gardens. The area is safe and quiet at night (in the past I spent a great deal of time in the area). The hotel is well situated with Euston, St Pancras and King's Cross only minutes away by foot. Beyond this, I like this hotel because when I stay, I almost feel at home (except here people cook a limitless hot breakfast for you :)) Highly recommended. Dr Ian McCracken.

This hotel is close to Kings Cross Station, and that's the only reason I'd give it a single point. It's really a zero point hotel. We booked a double room for the last Saturday in August. The cost was £210, and we paid in advance.|We arrived & the first thing the receptionist did was ask for a copy of our credit card. I wasn't happy about that. We were given a key to a room on the second floor. There is no lift so the first thing we had to do was lug out cases up several flights of stairs.|The room itself was tiny - smaller than any single room I've ever stayed in, so how they can class that as a double is beyond me. There was a small bed, a tiny wardrobe, and the world's smallest en-suite with a tiny toilet & minute shower. The toilet door wouldn't close properly & the shower extractor fan didn't work. |The view from the window was out of the rear of the property & faced the brick gable wall of an adjacent property.|And just when you think it couldn't get worse it did - the Sunday breakfast was available until 09.30. Yes, forget about a stay in bed if you want to eat.|For all the above reasons, and the eye-watering price of £210, this hotel gets my vote as the worst ever hotel stay anywhere. Avoid it!

Yelp
Harlingford Hotel deserves a personal four stars if for no other reason my wife gas come here across three decades. Her first visit was in 1985 (same owners then too) she was back in 2005 and again with me in 2011. The owner was in for breakfast one day and was delighted to hear the story. He said the most loyal guest had visited from the age of 5 to 90. Here are reasons pertinent to choosing the Harlingford yourself: * It's affordable and pleasant. * It's a short bus or tube ride or a moderate walk from Soho/Leicester Square Theatre * It's a short walk to a couple of tube nexuses where you can jump on nearly any train line * It's close to attractions like the British Museum The hotel is a two-star hotel and will be a different experience than a Hilton or W Hotel. However the price offsets this difference as you're saving £100-200 per night! The free full English breakfast can give you a substantial and quick start to your day. If you are addicted to Starbucks there are two within two blocks. There are several nearby dining spots including an Indian restaurant named Depa and a city-class fish shop named North Sea Fish Restaurant. My hope is that travelers find this post when looking for affordable lodging in London. Please send me a Yelp compliment to let me know if this review helped you book a place to stay in London. Yelp
I've stayed here a couple of times now and this family run hotel is real value for money! We checked in pretty early so our room wasn't ready but the hotel staff are great keeping your belongings to one side whilst we went out for the day. Based in Bloomsbury meant it was a 10 minute walk for me from Euston and ten minutes walk from Kings Cross for the rest of the party. The street is fabulous- with a real suburban feel to it and off the main road means it is quiet and night without any sirens or cars going past (its quieter than my flat back in Manchester!) The front entrance is fab, based on a leafy street with stairs leading up to the front door. The family run feel is run throughout and comes accompanied with a pet cat and dog (Zizi and the incredibly cute Chiyo) which are the owners - they are left to meander around the ground floor welcoming guests which adds to the charm! The stay itself was comfortable after I checked into my spacious double - with a bath and overhead shower in the ensuite accompanied be toiletries and a hairdryer it was all I needed for my overnight stop! Included in the price was the breakfast which was plentiful. There was lots of cereal options, yogurts, fruit and croissants to choose from whilst you perused from the hot menu. I loved that about the Harlingford - most places are now a buffet style which is great but I often wonder how long the food has been sitting there for... You had the option for all types of eggs, and adding extras such as fried bread and hash browns which was all included in the price. Our toast was brought out to us which was lovely along with tea and coffee which was prompt. The cold options were consistently topped up and replenished. The staff were attentive but alas my breakfast lacked my runny poached egg! I think I got unlucky though given another diner in our groups egg was perfectly runny...damn!

Yelp
Don't let the lack of stars deter you from booking a room here! This is not a five star hotel resort or anything which is why I didn't leave a full five stars. Someone might get confused? This place is lovely and located very near a tube station with a lift (if you have huge pieces of luggage; this deserves a star of its own) and King's Cross Station is a five minute walk away. The room I stayed in was clean, warm, and well lit. The bathroom was clean and everything worked fine. Breakfast was very good. You can choose from continental or English breakfast. There's nothing like hot food that someone else made for you as soon as you wake up. The staff was very friendly. I really liked their reception area. It was a sitting room with books and magazines with a warm fire going. So cozy. As far as hotels go, this is a basic hotel. It has a bed and breakfast feel, really, but I really think it's a cute place. I stayed there so briefly that I didn't really get to explore the area around it, but there is a cheap pub around the corner called "Rocket" that seems to be popular. Dining options are a short walk away, too. I would recommend this place to a friend.

Yelp
A nice, homely setup almost like a uni flat. Serves a great English breakfast in the morning, too!

Yelp
We had a great stay at Harlingford Hotel in London. The hotel is perfectly located, right between King's Cross , which is a big subway stationand Euston, both are big subway underground stations, and there was a third underground stations only a couple of minutes away, Russell Square. It only takes literally a few minutes to get from Harlingford Hotel to any central place or sighting in London. Russel Square has the Piccadilly Line, which goes directly to Piccadilly Circus and other central tourist attractions in London. There is also trains coming in directly from Heathrow Airport to King's Cross, so if you only have a couple of suitcases, you can save a lot of money by going by train from Heathrow and directly to King's Cross. From there you'll only have to wheel your luggage a couple of blocks and you are at your hotel. The hotel was very nice. We arrived at the hotel a little early, check in wasn't until 2pm, but they allowed us to set our luggage in the breakfast room so that we could wander around without worrying about carrying all that stuff with us. There was also a very nice "living room" type area with an internet PC and several comfortable chairs and sofas to sit and read or chat or just plainly relax. In the morning they had a very good breakfast buffet. It had the traditional breakfast items, such as cereal, some croissants, ham and cheese, nutella, jams .... They also had fruits and clotted cream and if you were early enough, you could even get yourself a scoop of really good oatmeal before they ran out for the day. Also they cooked up certain breakfast items to order. Every morning I had salmon and scrambled eggs with toast, and my husband had an "English Breakfast" which had eggs, bacon, sausage and toast. These we ordered from the waiters and the food was cooked in the kitchen upon order. There were plenty of places to eat and shop as well in the area. There is a mall right down the street that has a big grocery store (cheap if you're looking to stock your room with some snacks and drinks), a few hip eateries and some clothing stores. There is of course a pub on every corner, we tried a couple of those and I don't really have any "Stay Away" warnings, they were all pretty good & pretty reasonable. If you do pass by "Mabel's Tavern" though ..... I highly recommend stopping in for one of their steak and ale pies. I suspected that a dish that had both ale and steak AND pie combined .... had to be wonderful .... and by george it was! This tavern is only a couple of minutes away from Harlingford, I'm sure you'll find it ;-) Anyway .... we will most likely stay here again when we visit London in the future. I don't see why I would pay more for anything else, nor stay anywhere else. This hotel was comfy, clean and centralized enough so that go everywhere we wanted to go. I highly recommend getting day passes for the subway for the days you'll be staying, that way you are set to travel wherever you wish to travel! Safe journey & good luck!

Yelp
Decent hotel, okay rates, clean yet small rooms. Lots of stairs so don't bring too much/heavy luggage! Cute dog and cat roaming the property so beware of allergies. Location great for many things inc British Museum. But front desk girl/woman couldn't be more rude or less helpful if she tried. Wow. Would have given more stars if not for her.

Yelp
I can't wait for a friend to go to London, just so I can jump up and down and recommend the Harlingford Hotel for them to stay at. I came across the hotel listing through Fodor's, and after looking at their website, thought that it would be a suitable pick for me, my mother, and cousin (a girls holiday, if you will). I am always pretty nervous about accomodations, especially since in the US, me and the SO won't really go all out to stay anywhere very special. I haven't travelled internationally, unless it is to visit family in the Philippines, and hadn't been to Europe since high school, so I had my worries- especially since we were going to stay there fo 5 nights. Location was really important, since we did not want o stay too far outside the city, nor right in the heart of it. The Bloomsbury neighborhood is absolutely perfect if you're looking for a lively scene, that is also quiet and peaceful. There are restaurants right across the street, as well as pubs, several convenience stores, and a large shopping center with restaurants, coffee shops, clothing stores, drugstores, and a Waitrose supermarket. The hotel, which is on Cartwright Gardens, is also right between two stops on the Tube- Russell Square (which is smaller) and the huge Kings Cross Station/St. Pancras Station- we had originally planned to take two days in Paris, but decided not to, but this would have been perfect as the international trains leave from St. Pancras. From R. Square you can catch the useful PIccadilly line (stops at most important places in the city) and Kings Cross/St. Pancras, at least four lines plus the Piccadilly. This was really useful too, as on our departure, we had heavier (and more) luggage, and the lifts and layout at Kings Cross is a lot user-friendly compared to Russell Square. Along with its excellent location, you are up the block from University of London, The British Library St. Pancras Rennaissance Hotel ( a beautiful work of architecture) and the British Museum. The hotel itself is like a small boutique/European style hotel. There are no lifts, so keep in mind if you're traveling with anyone who needs help going up the stairs. With my mom, we stayed on the first floor , and it was fine. There is a cozy common room with a fireplace, books, computer, and magazines. The breakfast room is airy and bright, and perfect to start your day- full breakfast is included in your stay and it is brilliant- buffet with yogurt, fruit, cereals, jams, breads, and juices, and the option to order three types of breakfast- full English, full English with scrambled eggs, and scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. All dishes were delicious, and the perfect amount of food to tie us over until mid afternoon. They also serve copious amounts of toast, tea, and coffee. The staff at the hotel is made up of really friendly and accommodating people. The kitchen staff were made up of Filipinos, so we had a good time with them every morning, and my mom got to joke around with them in Tagalog and they offered us a lot of advice about the area and suggested things to see. Their hospitality was tremendous. The front desk ladies and gents were also wonderful- able to help us with a scale to weigh our luggage upon our departure, and they hold your luggage if you get in before check in and even after check out, the latter of which was very helpful as we had five hours until we had to leave for Heathrow and wanted to do the British Museum. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. The bathrooms were in-room, and our triple had a full size bed, and a twin size. They use memory foam mattresses, and my back did not hurt at all the whole week! There is a spacious wardrobe, though no set of drawers, other than the one cupboard they had for storage under the small dresser. They give you a tea kettle in the room, tea bags, instant coffee, hair dryer, and a flat screen tv. The ceilings are high and the decor was lovely and French inspired- yellow and blue, fleur de lis and paintings on the walls. Lots of lighting, and large windows that opened onto the main street. Though we were not in the room a lot during the day, it was good to come home to such a lovely space. Other amenities- free wifi, which was great for us, as we brought along an Ipad for our tech needs. They have lots of brochures and guides in the common room. I would not hesitate to stay there again, if I find myself in London i the future. The rates were reasonable, and the only upcharge we had was for the one local phone call I made. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting - a couple or a three some like us. You will not be disappointed at all!!

Yelp
The Harlingford must be my top pick among the gazillion hotels you find around the Euston- and St. Pancras-stations. The prices are in the average London category for everything above Travel Lodge and hostels, so you'll pay around 90 £ for a night - but the rooms are very tidy and bright, and the designer-fittings and clear green tiling of the bathrooms add some luxury. Decent breakfast, free Wi-Fi and a very attentive, no-frills service that will see to every request you have in no time. Plus, they have a friendly hotel-cat and you can use the tennis court in nearby Cartwright Gardens for free. 3 Minutes from Euston, 5 Minutes from St. Pancras.

Yelp
I'm rating the Harlingford 3 stars ONLY because the rate is great and it is well-located. The Harlingford is a couple of blocks away from the Kings Cross Station, in the Bloomsbury District of Central London. If you expect this to be the lap of luxury, take a pass. If you are merely interested in a warm bed and a place to store your luggage while you see the sights of London, this is a GREAT place. I was warned beforehand that the room we were booking was on the lower level - which is a actually "garden" level (below grade) room. Not really an issue. The room is VERY small. Literally 12 feet by 12 feet (including the tiny bathroom). While there are 2 twin beds in the room, there is a bare foot and a half between them, and only 3 to 4 feet from foot of the bed to the wall. You should not expect to do much more than sleep in your room, as there is not enough room apart from the beds. The hotel must be near a subway, because from our garden level room you can hear/feel the rumble of the subway trains passing by not so far below. Overall, an ideal location for the price - simply not the place if you want to be pampered.

Yelp
I stay at the Harlingford every time I travel to London for work (office near St. James Park station) and it's always great. Hotels in London are insanely expensive and I've tried other hotels that are in the price range of the Harlingford or cheaper, and there's always been some major downside (like no wifi, shared bathrooms, etc). Since I am traveling for work, I'm typically short on time and on a tight schedule so it's nice to know that things will be the same each time and that the wifi will work and so forth. Everyone working there is very friendly and the one time that my shower was kind of wonky (really the only issue in the 8 or so times I've stayed there), they fixed it by the time I got home from work. There is no elevator and the stairs are narrow all the way up to the fourth floor so it's probably not the most handicap accessible place. There are bathrooms in the room with standing showers (no tubs) so in that sense they are pretty accessible. I usually do bring an extra bottle of conditioner even though they provide soap and packets of shampoo, because the packets are a bit small. It's no frills though, so that's to be expected. The single/double rooms are small but always clean. There isn't any air conditioning so in the summer it could get a bit warm, but there are fans in room and it's never been THAT bad. There is a tv in the room with a decent number of channels. Also a small wardrobe to hang clothes. Usually about three outlets as well, plus an in-wall hair dryer. There is a dining room that serves an English breakfast menu and cereals, fruit, muffins, toast, yoghurt, juice, cheeses, croissants, and individual french press coffee pots. It's included with the room cost and is pretty standard, but it's a nice way to start the day. The location of the hotel is great, as well. It's near plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants, a Waitrose, Boots, and a short walk from three tube stations: Russell Square (closest), Kings Cross, and Euston Station. I can usually get in a decent run on Euston Road down to Regent's Park if I wake up early enough (otherwise it's a commuter thoroughfare, more dodging than running). There are a lot of university students milling in the area because there a few schools and dorms nearby, so sometimes it gets pretty loud on Friday/Saturday nights but not outrageous. All in all I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling to London and want a decently priced hotel that gives great access to the major attractions in London and a reliably comfortable stay each time.

Yelp
I cannot say this strongly enough: stay away. Even though the staff is delightful and the location is superb, the rooms are hole-in-the-wall tiny, and more importantly, the owner/manager (I think his name is Andrew) is a mean-spirited ogre who operates under the predisposition of 'the customer's always wrong'. The alleged "free wifi" doesn't reach any room beyond the second floor; when I pointed this out to him, and said that the promise of free wifi is part of what made me choose this hotel in the first place, he barked that it is considered a "perk" and he is under no obligation to actually provide it, and that I could go somewhere else if I wanted to, but he would still charge me for my first two nights even if I left. A real prize, this one. Like I said: stay away.

Yelp
This really was am amazing deal for London. The room is small but in Europe they are! There is also no elevator/lift which is also common but you need to know! The price was amazing and wifi was free and worked perfectly. I have stayed at much more expensive hotels where the wifi was expensive and didn't work! The imporatant part is the room is clean. Private bathroom, and a five minute walk to Kings Cross station. Breakfast is included and good. They have hot items you can order and a spread of cold items. Tea pot in room with a selection of tea. This is a no frills place and the mattress is eh but the price was really good compared to everywhere else I looked. If you want a big fancy place with fancy service and am amazing mattress, you will pay three times this place in London. But if like me you just want a reasonable clean room to crash for 8 hours and then be out exploring the world, this is the place!

Yelp
BEWARE BEFORE YOU BOOK We have stayed at the Harlingford on numerous occasions in the past when travelling to London from New Zealand, and have always considered the hotel to be reasonable value and a great location. Because of this, we have chosen to overlook the lumpy hard beds, the noisiness at night from the student accommodation and pub close by, and the service performance of the manager, known as 'Andrew', which has always been very poor, indifferent or downright rude. We recently booked several nights for our next visit to London in 9 months time and we have always, as per the hotel's terms and conditions, paid in full, in advance at the time of check in. We were very surprised when the hotel, without our knowledge or approval, charged 50% of our room rate as a non-refundable deposit to our credit card. When this was queried with the hotel, we got an arrogant, patronizing, and unprofessional response along with the hotel cancelling our booking. We are very disappointed that the hotel thinks so little of our regular and loyal patronage that they would treat us like this. 'Andrew' in responses to other multiple customer complaints on other sites has adopted an attitude of aggression or suggestions of impropriety or fraud against people complaining about the hotel's performance. I am sure he will respond in kind to this complaint, however, should anyone wishing to view the full content of the email communications between the hotel and ourselves, please contact me via email at joy.gary.browne@xtra.co.nz and I will be happy to oblige. There are other superior hotels nearby at a similar price with management who believe in friendliness and service as a requisite to managing a good hotel business - I strongly recommend you use them.
