Very large new and well kept building and museum. The place is run by the State Park system instead of the NPS. If you are looking for Junior Ranger info and stamps. There is a great little video. There are displays that are interactive. The museum itself gives as much history as it can on Tubman and the results of her actions. Her effects far reaching and long lasting. A nice tribute to a courageous human.

Beautiful visitor center with a movie, plus many beautifully done and thoughtful exhibits that helped bring this heroic woman's story to life. The staff were helpful and friendly. The gift shop has a brilliant selection of books and memorabilia on offer to take home a reminder of Harriet Tubman's struggles, bravery, and successes. The grounds here offer a walking path and picnic area. Nearby is a Wildlife Refuge.

This was tje last National historic park that I needed to get a junor ranger badge in Maryland. In this case it wsd a patch. The displays told her story and so did the movey. There are lots of bronze statues that tell of different aspects of her life. She was a remarkable woman in a very hard time for black slaves.

This is definitely worth the stop! The park rangers are incredibly knowledgeable. I loved hearing about the symbolic importance of where the building is located, as well as the building layout and materials. I learned so much about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad that I did not previously know. It took less than an hour to tour the place (I'm a very fast reader so your time might vary). There is a movie thats played inside every 22 minutes or so. The bathrooms were huge and clean - easily handicapped accessible. There's also a lovely gift shop inside with unique gifts that support the park. Additionally, the drive to the visitor's center from Rt 50 in Cambridge was absolutely beautiful. I saw incredible wildlife including the biggest hawk I've ever seen that flew very close to my car. You really get a feel of what the land looked like hundreds of years ago.

I’ve always loved Harriet Tubman’s story and so I had to stop here while I was in DC. It was well worth the stop. There is such a power message here and they’re able to achieve it by giving it to all disabilities. Educational, informative and interactive learning. The friendly rangers added to the expertise and gave me good information about this site and the area.

Incredible experience at the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park. The exhibits were powerful and the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. A must-visit if you’re in the area!

Google
The museum did a fantastic story of telling about the life of Harriet Tubman. Make sure you watch the movie as it did a great job of encapsulating and explaining her life. The museum is surrounded by tidal marsh lands and fields that have been farmed for centuries. Beautiful, fascinating location with friendly, modern, and interactive museum. Plus it's free.

Couldn't think of a better place to take my granddaughter to on Juneteenth. Showing her a monument to a strong, capable woman in my local area was excellent. The grounds are lovely and the museum is small enough that a child will not get bored before the history is soaked up.

Yelp
Blown away by the kind people working at this incredible museum! Such a lovely array of quotes, sculptures, pictures and other media. Definitely a wonderful place to learn about such a powerful figure of our history. Would definitely recommend stopping by and taking a moment to learn about this woman and her contributions throughout her life.

Yelp
My family and I took a trip to Southern Maryland during one Thanksgiving week (when Covid was still a "thing"). This was an inspiring stop for me, and a closer look at her life. It's actually kinda daunting that the surrounding fields as you drive most likely could've been plantations in which people were forced to work in, but learning more about her life and the era within America in which she lived in was so interesting.

Yelp
If you find yourself on the Eastern Shore, make a point to stop here to learn all about the amazing life of Harriet Tubman. She was truly a study in courage and resilience. The museum is well done with engaging exhibits that document Araminta "Minty" Ross's childhood all the way through her last years as the abolitionist we all know and love. Harriet personally rescued 70+ slaves! The park rangers warmly welcomed us, told us how to maximize our time since we arrived pretty close to closing, and wished us well once we finished our tour. Whether you're a history buff, a social justice-minded person, or someone who needs a little inspiration to lift your spirits, check out this museum. Harriet was the embodiment of hope and bravery.

Yelp
An absolute MUST while in the area or passing through. This museum is very well done as it highlights all of the SHEROIC moments in Harriet Tubman's amazing life of unselfish service to Black people in their journey to freedom!!

Yelp
I've always loved Harriet Tubman's story and so, I had to stop here on my way to a beach trip with my family. It was well worth the stop! This is the Visitor's Center, which is also the state park. It's free to park and enjoy the exhibits and short films. There is a gift shop inside too which our daughter picked out a book in her age range to learn more about this brave woman's life. Clean restrooms are also in the Visitors Center. We highly recommend visiting and learning more about Araminta "Minty" Harriet Tubman Story as she pursued freedom from slavery, not only for herself but for countless others as well!

Kathea S.

Yelp
We started homeschooling this year and that means field trips whenever we want. To cap off Black History month, we trekked across the bridge to check this place out. It must have opened right before the pandemic because it looks brand new. It's in the middle of nowhere but beautiful country. Plenty of parking. The park rangers were very helpful. You start with a very well done short film on the life of Harriet Tubman. After that are the exhibits. They are beautiful and tell more than just her story but that of the life of the enslaved on the eastern shore. They have some very cool interactive things that kids and adult will enjoy playing. I could definitely see going thru it a couple times because you could miss things. Have your kids do the workbook for their junior ranger badge. Once done hop on the byways to explore more! Such a nice national park.

Yelp
I highly recommend taking time to tour the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center.. Luckily the center had just reopened sometime during the week of October 19, 2020 (it had been temporarily closed due to Covid-19) so I was delighted to find that out during my weekend visit to Cambridge, MD. There is a wealth of information presented in the displays - both informational and interactive - so everything you think you know about this Dorchester County shero, multiply that by at least 10. Of particular interest to me was the wall of plaques "Celebrating Legacies: Women of the Underground Railroad". The stories of the many amazing female abolishinists were breathtaking and some heartbreaking. Harriett Tubman is greatly celebrated throughout Dorchester County. The recognition is well deserved. p.s. You can pick up the booklet to explore the underground railroad byway while here (it is also available online) so in addition I recommend driving by some of the other stops on the map while in the area. It's a beautiful drive!

Yelp
It's sort of a strange notion having a park dedicated to a person instead of a place. The way it's set up, there's a visitor center at this map location, and you're encouraged to visit various other sites around the Eastern Shore. And in a way, this is the only appropriate method of getting across some notion of the Underground Railroad writ large. The Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is next door, and visiting both sites really gives you a sense of place. You can see a statue of Harriet Tubman catching a muskrat, and then you can go see the muskrats where they live. The visitor center won't take too long, but it's got some interesting history and it's free. As of this writing, it is open and has restrooms, though the water fountains and gift shop are not open. There is a short walk through some neighboring greenery outside, and a picnic area. Also, it is a national historic park, though the current entry here says it's a state park (which I believe used to be the case).

Joyce D.

Yelp
Museum has a lot of exhibits to teach about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad.

Tsianina L.

Yelp
I wanted to visit this place for so long and was definitely not disappointed when we finally did in Jan 2023. We will definitely go back when it is warmer and we are able to walk some of the trails. The exhibits inside were well put together and informative. There are definitely moments where you just want to sit in solemn reflection!

Yelp
I've been in Maryland for six years & wasn't aware of the Harriet Tubman Underground Rail State Park until my recent visit to Cambridge, MD. After having dinner in downtown Cambridge, I saw the Harriet Tubman Museum & Educational Center, which was closed. Due to the kind & elder Shop Owner passing by, he proudly told me about the newly constructed Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park. A ten-minute drive outside of Cambridge, located in the small town of Church Creek, you'll pull up to this sprawling, green-scape area housing the Museum advertised & referred to as the Visitor Center/State Park. I'll refer to as the museum, which is part of the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway. The Byway is a self-guided driving tour over 125 miles (along the Eastern Shore) showcasing 36 historical & important sites relating to the Underground Railroad. This has been added to my near future Agenda. Upon free entry, there were two welcoming Park Rangers giving us the tour information & kindly requesting that we signed the Visitor Book. It was my humble pleasure. The go as you go tour, takes you through many exhibits with state-of-the-art technology, interactive audio/visual displays. Seeing & touching the life size replicas of Tubman's baby cradle & the Fodder House where Tubman & family members hid before escaping...had me pause for awhile. There are many really thought provoking multimedia exhibits. Watching the documentary in the theater was very informative. Reading how Harriet Tubman returned from Canada over 13 times to help family members escape slavery amongst the dangerous mission, left me simply speechless & extremely thankful at the same time. Many hand claps & hallelujahs to the Architect for bringing this rich in history & cultural vision to life. The self-guided tour allows you to take all the time necessary to fully learn & understand the invaluable heritage of Harriet Tubman. Tubman, the popular Freedom Firefighter who effortlessly developed the resistance movement against the oppressive political social establishment. Everyone should visit the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Museum to receive just a small piece of her life & legacy. Harriet Tubman's unwavering faith & dedication to not only help to free & safeguard slaves, yet educating the ever growing posse along the journey, was a privilege for me to learn & experience posthumously. The Spiritual Light, the Spy, the Scout, the Nurse, & the creator of the Underground Railroad "network of secret routes & safe houses"...residents of Dorchester County, what an honor it must be to live in the same area of Araminta 'Mintie' Harriet Tubman.

Yelp
This is an excellent National Park. The Museum shows a movie about what she achieved, where she traveled, how she did it and It shows the route she took. Most impressive, the displays demonstrates what she overcame. She was a liberator, activist, slave freer, nurse, spy, and civil war leader who carried a rifle. Impressive, sad, and wonderfully inspirational. The park shows how far she traveled for liberty or death, as she said. Pictures only begin to capture the feeling you come away with after visiting this small park, that's free to all.

Yelp
Harriet Tubman is one of my favorite women of all time. It was such an honor to go out into these fields and see this incredible museum and memorial dedicated to the right person. Harriet is "the Moses of her people" and the rich history is displayed elegantly here. You really learn just how much she sacrificed for her family, friends, and 300 slaves she helped join the north. I might not ever fully understand her strength but I am daily inspired to be more like her. I was blown away by the displays, the statues, and the entire museum. They really honored Harriet Tubman in a beautiful way. It is worth the drive to go see! There is such a powerful message here and they're able to achieve it by giving it to all disabilities. The place is handicapped accessible. This facility has something for the blind, deaf, and children. There is great restrooms on site and a gift shop. There is also a NP stamp and Underground Railroad stamp here. This museum is in the middle of no where. Make sure you pack a lunch and have gas.

Absolutely AMAZING, extremely very educational, soooo relaxing walking the grounds and visually seeing things take place !!! I learned so much and wish that I had taken many more photos too!!! This museum is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, FREE to enter just leave a donation if you would like to help!! YES!!! I will, DEFINITELY, re-visit when they re-open and will I will ALWAYS leave a donation !!!

Becca H.

Yelp
I honestly never knew that this museum existed, but on our way back from OC we saw signs for it and decided to go. What a beautiful, educational, and emotional experience. They really did a great job telling her story. I can't wait to come back and bring the kiddos next time.

Yelp
My visit mid-May 2023 was horrible. Two white families come in after me and their greeting was something like, "Hi. Welcome to the Harriet Tubman Visitor Ctr... We have a film going on right now, it's the last one of the day so you might consider that first ..., here are some materials to guide your visit, ...". My greeting, "Hi. Welcome to the Harriet Tubman Visitor Ctr ... How can we help you today?" I could add more detail to support this horrible review but it would be even lengthier. I was so offended, heart hurt offended!!! and pissed, I could have cried and broken something. I was that hurt and angry at the same time. I haven't felt that overlooked in a long time. And believe me, having lived in the beautiful black skin I'm in, I know what had just happened, and it was blatant. And the sad observation is, my experience didn't register until I heard the beautiful, warm and so informative greeting of those other visitors. I've had to near about seek counseling for the flood of emotions this experience opened up inside of me, and to then have to walk around reading about the injustices Mrs. Harriet Tubman worked so hard and risked life to eradicate, to experience this. Respect and kindness and even sensitivity (training) are soooo needed in our world to truly make America a beautiful place. And the staff in the store were worse. Never greeted me at all. When I checked out, I counted the seconds to see if I would be greeted during the exchange of me handing over my green money in this store. Not one word. Mind you, the two staff persons had been talking abt something personal the entire time I walked arnd so I know they weren't mute. I finally said on purpose, "Well, how are you doing today?" to point out that I hadn't been welcomed. Let me end this review because it's bringing back painful memories of that day but are only pinpoints to what my African American enslaved ancestors experienced.

Yelp
Bottom Line: A lovely building that tells the inspiring and surreal history of a real American hero, Harriet Tubman. This is such a great museum! The building is new and nice and the exhibits are educational and interesting. The employees are friendly and engaging too. And of course there is a gift shop. Visiting the museum I felt like I knew a decent amount about Harriet Tubman but what I didn't know was that this larger than life activist was only five feet tall! Harriet Tubman had an unimaginably hard life from birth. She was born into slavery but was able to escape to freedom. Free at last . . . but then she made 13 more trips into harm's way to rescue 70 others from slavery. Her bravery, courage and resolve is truly astonishing and it is wonderfully captured at this museum.

Beth K.

Yelp
This was free to visit and a must see. The museum is about 20 minutes from Cambridge and is located a few miles from where Harriet Tubman lived. What an incredible strong woman from the Eastern shore of Maryland who helped slaves travel to freedom. I'm so glad this museum came to be so we can preserve her legacy.

Tutti S.

Yelp
Educational, informative and interactive learning. This free, thought provoking museum is a must see. Well done.

Aviva A.

Yelp
Harriet Tubman SP is absolutely worth the visit - and gives you insights into the life and strengths of this incredible woman. The museum is interactive and offers many different opportunities to engage with Harriet's story - from her time as a child working at different plantations, to her teen years working in lumber yards, her marriage to a freed man, her first attempts at escape, her decision to escape -- and then going back again (and again and again) to rescue her family and other slaves, and later, her legacy in Auburn, NY. There is no way not to be in awe of this woman. The museum overall powerful, direct, not surgarcoating, but also uplifting while directing you to continue Harriet's struggle. I walked out feeling tremendously impressed, but also enormously sad at what Harriet (and all slaves) had to endure to survive. Any visitor will appreciate the tremendous risks that she took to stand up against slavery. The museum's location next to the Blackwater Wildlife preserve is powerful (in the middle of the swamps where she led rescue missions) - you see how absolutely hard it would have been to navigate these swamps, which makes her rescue of more 300 people all the more powerful! The park rangers were very informative, friendly, and seemed to really find it a privilege to work here and engage with visitors.

Katie G.

Yelp
Great visit today. They've done a great job capturing the history, the woman, and other people who were involved. It's also in a nice setting near the fantastic Blackwater Wildlife Refuge, near where Harriet Tubman was born. It was also nice to see a lot of African-Americans and others coming out to honor this great American. I got choked up several times, OK?

Pamela S.

Yelp
I was disappointed in our tour. I wanted to learn about Harriet Tubman and her activities in Cape May. Very, very little information about her and the achievements. The tour guide talked about local residents, and the black community in Cape May. The tour is called" The Harriet Tubman museum" not black Americans in Cape May. My focus was to find out about her not about the local shopkeepers or members of the church congregation. I think she made the tour so so long talking about small issues instead of the person we went to learn about. I have attended many, many tours and programs and events in Cape May that were way better. I would not suggest visiting this site if you want to hear about Harriet Tubman.

Ms C.

Yelp
Lovely, modern museum in a peaceful MD setting. Packing a GUN and the will to see her family and fellow slaves escape to freedom, Harriet Tubman was a selfless individual who continued to care for other former slaves until her passing. Amazing woman!

Vonnie J.

Yelp
I have been waiting for a long time to honor this woman with a tribute fitting the magnitude of her good deeds to human kind. I am 56 she has been my shero since I was 9 years old. This museum is a very fitting tribute to a woman that did so much for humanity. Harriet Tubman was seeking equal opportunity for not only blacks but women as well. The museum captures the true essence of her personality in that you can learn about nature and human nature. You don't only learn about Harriet Tubman, but you learn about the laws of the time period that effected blacks and women. When you first walk in the museum take the time to get acquainted with the Rangers. They will give you instruction on starting your tour and ending it. They will give you a game that will test your comprehension as well as guide you through the museum. At end of the tour you will be given a badge for participating and completing the game. I especially like it for the children it is very interactive, and it is small enough that you don't get lost. I have to say the location is off the beaten path, however it is the perfect location. It is very near the Black Water National Wildlife Refuge. I say it is perfect because of Harriet Tubman closeness to nature. She depended on signs from nature during her escapes. I do want to apologize to the Rangers, it took me so long to write this review that I have forgotten the names of the Rangers they were so helpful especially the lady Ranger at the front desk. Given the beauty of the area, this can become an all day tour if you start at the Black Water Wildlife Refuge. Also if you fish bring your license and a pole there is fishing not to fare from the museum. Make sure before you leave that you check out the gift shop! I think they offered a military or senior discount I am both lol. Until the next adventure Vonnie yelping at you:)

Mary Z.

Yelp
This is an amazing tribute to Harriet Tubman. As you walk around the museum, you see different times in Harriet's life and what she was forced to endure as a slave and as an escapee who freed 70 more slaves. About halfway through, we sat down for a short movie that described one of her rescues and the dangers everyone faced. I thought I knew, but I really had no idea. The friendly rangers added to the experience and gave us good information about the site and the area. This museum really is as good as it gets.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Really well done. I am a DC native, and knew very little about Harriet Tubman's early life. We purchased the driving map for our next visit. I'm sorry we didn't visit the Harriet Tubman Museum in Cambridge and the Dorchester Visitor center while we were at it.

Jon D.

Yelp
This is an excellent place to learn about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. My high school history teacher didn't teach us enough about this powerful woman.

Megan W.

Yelp
We somehow stumbled upon this as we were exploring one day. This is a beautiful memorial for Harriet Tubman and explains her life in a very interactive way. We were greeted by some rangers as soon as we entered and explained where the slideshow was and where to start and finish the museum. It was surprisingly packed that day with boy scouts and others but there was plenty of room for us to make our way around. I definitely recommend stopping by here if you're ever out that way!
