"Harrison Smith Botanical Garden At the beginning of the 20th century, a physics professor in Massachusetts inherited a ton of money. He promptly headed for the South Pacific, settling there and founding what’s now the Harrison Smith Botanical Garden. Maybe Smith had a slight Noah complex: He brought in plants from around the world, which means an African flower might sit next to a South American fern. The problem is that he inadvertently killed off the native plants with his imports. Still, the garden is a lovely spot to wander around, a sampler box of world botany."

This was well worth the stop! It was free admission. There are vendors at the entrance selling chips and drinks. We parked on the street but had no problem finding a spot. Sometimes waves of crowds can come in from the tour buses. You can bring backpacks and bags in. It's nice scenery to take in and read about the Tahitian legends. Enjoy!

Really lovely and free! We (2 adults + 3 kids) spent ~70 minutes here. We did the big loop comfortably, lots of shade, and the paths were great for the running stroller. The wetlands section was excellent, great path through the trees. Amazing waterfront location. There is also a park over looking the water with restrooms which was a great finish. Really glad we did this and the kids enjoyed it.

This place is huge, definitely recommend for a relaxing walk outdoors similar to the water gardens nearby, I found this place a little less interesting than those, but still worth the stop if you are roaming around the island. You can walk a lot if you choose the long circuit, but everything is flat so is friendly for all ages, there's even a big grass field by the sea if you want to just sit and enjoy the view.

Very nice and peaceful Botanical garden to visit for free. There is a big parking area to park outside and also after you pass the gate to the right. The area is not huge, so you can visit it all around in 30 min. You will see small lagoons, many types of plants and trees and different types of birds and for sure roosters all around.

The botanical garden is not highly-frequented, actually we saw nobody else, but two else. The garden looks nice, but its potential remains un-used. It would need some care. Besides a coffee/bar and sitting opportunities as well as toilets are lacking so that people stay longer. I guess September is also not the best season to see nature blooming. Very nice is that there is no entrance fee and a free parking lot.

I had the entire garden to myself on a rainy weekday afternoon in November. No one was there to collect an admission fee and the gate to the section that (maybe) housed the tortoises was locked. Pleasant enough for a 30 minute stroll. The Mape trees in the wetland area were truly impressive.

This large garden offers a lot of different biomes and specimens, and is worth spending some time. The signage at each plant needs some maintenance, but otherwise a very pleasant place to commune with the natural world.
