A Food Expert's Guide to Eating in Athens, Greece - AFAR

"A tiny cubbyhole pie bakery opened in 2018 in the city center, run by jovial owner Harris Satiridis and his wife Yiouli, who bake pites from recipes passed down through their families; highlights include an oozy three-cheese tiropita (feta, anthotiro, Cretan graviera) perfumed with mint and a kayiana filled with scrambled eggs, tomatoes, cheese, and oregano—classic, hearty street-food-style pies perfect for breakfast." - Anya von Bremzen

We booked the 5-course cocktail menu. It was excellent. The food was lovingly prepared and served. A new cocktail accompanied each course. Fantastic! We highly recommend it. What was new for us was that most of the guests left the restaurant immediately after the menu. We're European, and for us, the evening isn't over after dinner. We enjoy chatting together and having a drink. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening with excellent food and cocktails. Another day we had breakfast there. That was also excellent. Fresh fruit and many egg variations. Great.

What a pleasant surprise Harry's Continental Kitchen turned out to be! The staff was wonderful, and Susan, our waitress, was a delight. We had some of the specials and really enjoyed it. Grilled Peach salad with burrata tomatoes and arugula was so good. Red snapper with delicious risotto could not have been better. We will be visiting again soon.

We ate at Harry’s for breakfast before we left Longboat Key for the airport. From the outside, this restaurant doesn’t look like much, but it definitely is good eating. We sat on the patio and even though it was on the roadside, it was secluded by lots of plants and had a pergola to shade the tables. Our server was Kianna and she was sweet and provided good service. Right away she bought a basket of mini biscuits and banana bread. Nice touch. My husband had Harry’s nogi for breakfast - scrambled eggs, bacon crumbles, cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, avocado, chipotle sauce and corn tortillas. He loved it. I had the old-fashioned German pancake with lingonberries. I also ordered a side of bacon. The German pancake was light and very good. The bacon was crisp like I like it. Before I left I went inside to use the restroom and was so surprised seeing the dining area. It totally is different than the outside and is so inviting. Decorated in white and blue it’s so inviting, and there are plenty of booths and tables inside. Next time I’m in Longboat Key, I will definitely come back for dinner. We looked at the menu and it looked good. Looks are deceiving so don’t pass by this place because of the nondescript exterior.

*Google Master Review* Michelin-quality Foods, Craft Mixologist Cocktails, Sommelier-paired Wines, and more! Definitely recommend! My server, Mercedes, was attentive and knowledgable; as was the 2nd generation owner of this beloved culinary gem. Their brunch-like breakfast featuring their signature German Apple Pancake was amazing! They have a great happy hour every day, wine bottle specials, patio bistro menu, events and more… not to mention their entertaining mixologist / bartenders that always have something unique AND interesting to offer. The table cloths and napkins provide an upscale experience with a local Florida charm. Plenty of parking (including handicapped spots) nearby. They accept both walk-ins and reservations. Highly recommend for a one-of-a-kind experience.

Google
This place is amazing. The server (Kristy) was so attentive but also left us to enjoy our time together. Perfect balance. The wedge salad had sweet bacon that was perfectly cooked mixed with bleu cheese that was tantalizing on my tongue. I followed that with duck and it was super crispy with a sauce that made me hum with excitement. I will definitely be making many future reservations. Love this place

Google
We loved our breakfast experience at harry’s! The service was amazing and very accommodating to our food allergies. They serve warm biscuits and banana bread which were delicious to start out with. The breakfast nogi and omelet were both great. One of the best breakfasts i’ve had!

Google
My mother and I drove quite a ways to have lunch at Harry's because she could use a special treat after some arduous days. Right from arrival the staff was warm, welcoming, and catered to our every need. The pace was just right, never rushed, and always right there when we needed them. The food was delicious and there were plenty for leftovers, too. A wonderful experience.

Yelp
Memorial Day means BBQ and sides- potato salad, coleslaw, tomato and feta salad and dessert. Harry's has gourmet foods that everyone loves so I went there to make my contribution to a friend's cookout. Open every day at 11AM

Yelp
Stopped today finally and my wife, son and I all had the breakfast croissant with potatoes. It was a great breakfast, everything was correct and the croissants are so tasty. Definitely check out the bakery nearby and store. Mercedes took great care of all of us and was on top of everything. Can't wait to go back on our next visit to Long Boat.

Yelp
We had brunch at Harry's today. My husband and friend ordered different eggs Benedict (one ham, the other crab cake) and shared. Both amazing! And my husband thinks he is an eggs Benedict critic. I Had the tuna tower. It was not exactly what I was expecting but better!! Sliced seared tuna layered between large wontons with a salad of cabbage carrots and mayo sauce. Just delightful!! Oh and the bloody Mary's were so good, not to spicy, with beautiful garnishes that I devoured!! Oh and I forgot to mention the complimentary banana bread!! The service was excellent and they were packed at 1 pm with lots of locals on a Sunday. You can sit in or outdoors. Just a nice atmosphere!!

Yelp
Average food with high prices. We went to Harry's with a large group of 11 people. The reservation was at 6 PM. They were not finished serving us our drinks until seven and we did not place our order for food until 715. The servers were very friendly, but extremely slow. The meal was over four hours long. The food was just OK. We had the cucumber salad special, which was fine. We also had a seared snapper and tuna with tostadas. They recommended splitting salads, but the cucumber salad special we had was small. Everything was very expensive and not that good. That along with the interminably long wait makes it so I can only give it three stars at best. I'm not sure how we get such good reviews.

Yelp
Our server was Mercedes. This is my second time there with her and she's just terrific. I love calves liver and it's one of the few places I've been to that have it on their menu. It was the best I've ever had. It's very charming place inside, with outdoor seating as well. We went on a day that was just teaming down with rain outside and the ambience, menu and artwork provided a truly memorable experience. The indoors is romantic.

Yelp
Fantastic experience from start to finish! Great hospitality getting a large party reservation scheduled for my husband's birthday! Fantastic hospitality from the serving staff incredible cocktails, and food! We are looking forward to going back. Thank you to the staff for such an incredible experience.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant. Out door seating and full bar. I had breakfast here and I will say that the food wasn't that great. My eggs were bland. The grits were bland and to top it off. There's just way too much cheese over my grits and my eggs. My husband got the shrimp and grits, which wasn't dynamic at all. It was very oily and the shrimp seem like they were boiled. And again bland. I loved our server. He was very sweet. Honestly the only thing that I truly enjoyed was the banana bread. Everything else was meh. I probably won't return.

Yelp
No. No. No. Look I do not understand why any restaurant thinks they can boost prices and serve food that is way under quality. I ordered a crab cake and it was nothing but filler. It was horrible. HORRIBLE. My husband ordered a mixed drink and it was insanely spicy. His food was also expensive and a poor meal. Skip this restaurant. Only plus was the waitstaff.

Kathy M.

Yelp
We dined on June 9, 2025. Each year we explore a few restaurants that participate in Savor Sarasota. This year we hit a winner! One we will return to many times. The staff was upbeat and welcoming. Our waitress Alexa was very attentive and friendly. We loved her. We ordered from the Savor menu and everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful and memorable. I loved fresh pear salad appetizer, unique duck sausage dish. My husband had the seared tuna bomb appetizer with the soft shell crab main course. Both were expertly prepared. Dessert and drinks were excellent. The regular menu had many interesting items. This is a hidden gem.

Yelp
Had reservations. Greeted and seated. Been eating here for many years but this particular experience was not what we've come to expect. Server professional and friendly. Overall food was prepared well with good presentation BUT the crab cakes were counterfeit. Should have been described as crab flavored filler. Had crab cakes several times on Longboat Key over a two week period and these were way below every other cake. Overall food was okay not great. Sadly disappointing.

David S.

Yelp
Food pretty ordinary. Pricey Sparkling clean. Very very pleasant setting. I would most certainly go back.

Yelp
Went for Sunday brunch. Glad we had reservations as it was packed. Extremely loud. We were sat in a booth for four, and we all found it quite cramped, not much space between the table and bench on both sides. We had 2 servers, and both ladies were excellent, sweet and attentive despite how busy it was. Major complaint besides the noise and seating was the temperature of the food - I ordered eggs benny and the potatoes and Benedict were not hot. The flavours, presentation and quality etc were on point, just not the temp. The others had omelettes which they liked - father had captains platter and said it was overcooked. Service was great though, we will try again, maybe not such a busy time and will request a table, not a booth.

Yelp
Servicecwas great. Very attentive staff on a busy holiday brunch. Seating outside kinda cramped and drab. I had the nova scotia lox's and they were delicious. I had a side of potatoes. Not very impressive. Slightly cold and flavorless We had a few bloody marys. The bacon and bacon infused vodka was good. The mix seemed like just tomato juice. My apologies but as hard as I try I cant remember what my wife had. Not a good sign. Oh just pulled up menu. Shrimp and grits with bacon garlic sauce. Good size shrimp. Tasty . Grits with sauce were good.

Yelp
What a great place. I wish I'd had found it sooner but at least I found it and it's been amazing The food the service and atmosphere are spectacular

Yelp
Always a terrific meal, amazing cocktails and wine / and the service is always top notch! Go for brunch. For dinner. Just go!

Yelp
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! I had the most wonderful lunch at Harry's! The lunch bread basket consisted of mini biscuits and banana bread which were both so yummy!!! I got the chicken florentine crepe which was sooo good! I added grilled onions which was a nice touch. My grandpa had the shrimp gazpacho which he loved. My sister enjoyed one of the salads. For dessert my grandpa got his favorite, the coconut cream pie!! We took one to go for my mom too because she also loves it!! Our server Semi was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Will be back :))
google avatar

Yelp
Harry's serves the best breakfast/brunch on Longboat Key! Even the kids liked the pancakes and French toast. Attentive service and prompt Mimosas and Bloody Mary's to set the mood. From breakfast sandwich to French omelette and more, we left happy!

Yelp
Service was great , food was very over priced . My husband and I had a very basic breakfast . I had one mimosa and my husband had orange juice and it was over $80 with tip.

Midge M.

Yelp
Our family has been going to Harry's for more than 35 years. Never had a bad meal and among us, we've probably had everything on the menu! The staff is always friendly, and Denise does an excellent job remembering people and making you feel welcome. Always look forward to multiple visits during our time in LBK.

Yelp
We visited Easter Saturday after a full day at the beach. It's a very busy day for restaurants, but we were able to be seated immediately. We did not have a reservation. Thank you to the host and hostess!! We really enjoyed our food and the exceptional service from Susan.

Seth K.

Yelp
Jeff's cocktails were dynamite! Highly recommend the strawberry infused gin cocktail and the smoky whiskey cocktail, both excellent. Brooke was a great server and had many awesome suggestions. Pistachio cake was awesome. Would return!

Ben C.

Yelp
I would like to say how this establishment has a great sense of community!! The manager Josh really helped me when I was in a pinch! Very professional very polite.

Yelp
Terrific experience at Harry's! On a broiling hot August day, we enjoyed divine food -- esp. the vichyssoise and the gazpacho -- best we've ever had. Rogelio, our server, was professional and warm and with a light touch of humor made our meal a wonderful experience. The blue and white decor made me feel I was in Santorini and the overgrown patio just outside was lovely to gaze at. My 92-y-o mom appreciated the abundance of disabled parking immediately adjacent. We loved our lunch so much that we ordered TWO bags of to-go items and enjoyed them for the next couple of days. LOVE Harry's and will be back!!

Yelp
First time visit. Parking available in 2 lots. Ahandicapped lot also available. We ate outside in anice quaint area with umbrellas for shade. Ate around 1 as we arrived early for our 1:30 reservation. Good service. I had thegrits and shrimp. very good. Small biscuits and banana bread served before entree came. Spouse had a breakfast entree, eggs Benedict with crab cakes. Thumbs up! Also had bellini cocktails. Added this place to our top 5 in southwest Florida places to eat. A delicious and bakery owned by Harry's is across the street.

Yelp
Still the BEST BRUNCH in SRQ! Get the shrimp n grits--OMG drooling just thinking about it!! Every breakfast comes with a complimentary bread basket with warmed, homemade banana nut bread and mini biscuits! Don't fill up though because entrees are big! The BEST cheesey, crazy creamy, tender grits I've ever had (and I'm a chef)! Great house coffee, beautiful setting with a large outdoor patio and friendly service! Check out Harry's deli grab n go across the street for takeaway, premade, homemade meals, impeccable housemade desserts and deli items!

Yelp
We went here for lunch today. Had the shrimp cargo. Also had the grouper sandwich. Others had the chicken Florentino crepes. All were good

Arlan L.

Yelp
Harry's was a wonderful dining experience. Food, ambiance and service was a 20 out of 10. Our server John was the absolute best! Thank you John!! We'll definitely be back when we are in the Long Boat area.
google avatar

Yelp
We had heard this was a nice place to dine while visiting the area. Not so much. The food was bland, the staffers and obnoxious while we ate. During our meal, a young lady had a broom and was brushing the carpets generating dust and debris. Not impressed. We went to the deli and the older woman behind the counter was extreme rude and condescending. There are too many other places on the island to choose from and we'd suggest you make another dining choice.
google avatar

Giovanna V.

Yelp
I didn't dine in here but I ordered a dessert to go. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake to-go as I had a craving for chocolate cake. It wasn't until I had the receipt in my hand that I noticed a regular sized piece of cake was $15. For the price I paid for this cake and its size, it certainly was not worth $15. The taste was good but not great. All desserts purchased at the restaurant are $15 while the deli and the Harry's connivence store had them at a reasonable price of 6.50.

John S.

Yelp
Harry's is next level excellent Truly a local gem Gets busy early, so don't wait .
google avatar

Patrick F.

Yelp
It's definitely one of the best dining and food experiences in the area. Professional wait staff, and sitting outside in the nice weather was a plus. Numerous menu choices for all the different palates in our group of four. Best to take your clothing up a notch to smart casual. And of course the food was excellent!
google avatar

Deb M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, service and food. Very good restaurant. The prices are higher but I have no problem with that. I like to go to a restaurant that wants to provide a good experience. They certainly do that!

Shawn C.

Yelp
Have to say that after years of going to Harry's I can no longer. Their service time fell off the shelf. They bring out food that was clearly under heat lamps for a long time. And for the prices they charge just not worth it
google avatar

Elle C.

Yelp
We love Harry's, very pretty inside old-school very light, lovely place, the cocktails are really delicious and contemporary. I love that some of their food has a Latin twist, great chef at work. Very good. It is nice to see it fill up with younger diners later at night which in LBK is 8:00pm lol. The wine offerings are great. The seafood platter is very good, shrimp-cargot, paté de maison very good, love the grilled duck breast. Nice place celebrate a special occasion.

Yelp
Our friends, with whom we are staying, adore Harry's and made a brunch reservation for us today. From the outside, the place looks rather nondescript but once you enter the restaurant, you are pleasantly surprised by the white table cloths and simple but lovely decor. Our server, Elizabeth, was delightful. She took very good care of our group of five. Three of us chose Bloody Marys. OK, they forgot the bacon but it was on the table only minutes after we mentioned it to Elizabeth. Love the pickled green bean and Brussel sprout that accompanied the green olive on the toothpick. Very cool idea and quite tasty! One of the others in our party ordered the Citrus Martini and was just as happy with her beverage. I ordered the Shrimp and Cheese Grits and they were delicious. Someone else had the German Apple Pancake. Two others decided on the Seafood Benedict. All were superb. We were so pleased with our experience that we plan to return tomorrow for lunch as we are meeting a friend from home.

Gale P.

Yelp
The food at Harry's restaurant was good. The service was horrible I ordered ice coffee with milk, it took 30 minutes to get the milk and asked 5 wait staff. We asked for bread when we placed the order again 30 minutes I asked to speak to the manager who never came over to the table The food was ok. I ordered a Cobb salad. with chicken. very small about of chicken. but lots of olives. At the end of the meal, when the check came. I had to wait a very long time for the waiter to return so I went up to the hostess stand. Finally spoke to the manger whose response when I complained was "you received our food 30 minutes after you ordered, but it took 15minutes to even get the waiter over Her response was it was the busiest it has been all season. Poor response and bad attitude

Joyce H.

Yelp
Delicious food, responsive servers amid a relaxed atmosphere make this restaurant a favorite for locals and visitors. We plan our trips to Longboat Key to include this restaurant, for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Harry's is an excellent place to dine!
google avatar

Yelp
Another fabulous dinner at Harry's. Staff are very good. Had dinner inside overlooking garden. I've also had dinner outside. Great menu & wine list. Love there Grouper. Duck is fabulous also.

Tracey Y.

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast/brunch- the German pancakes are amazing, spicy Bloody Mary was out of this world!

Jenna H.

Yelp
Harry's is so convenient if you're staying on Long Boat Key, but you can't help notice the higher prices. Fortunately, it was absolutely worth it! My family enjoyed a fabulous breakfast with attentive service.
google avatar

Greg A.

Yelp
Our Uber driver recommended this place and it was a gem. When you pull up or drive by your first response is dingy hole in the wall. However don't be put off - when you walk in you are met by a beautiful restaurant with first class service. Out server was excellent and steered us to some great dishes and away from some dishes. We started with Manhattans before dinner which were well prepared and great. I had the grilled wedge salad and is was outstanding. Our server steered us away from the crab cake letting us know that there was a lot of filler. Entrees were the fall special butternut squash ravioli and the black grouper. Ravioli was just ok but the grouper was outstanding. If not for the so so ravioli I would rate this five stars.

Peter D.

Yelp
Went with Mary to celebrate our 18th anniversary in style. Harry's is categorized as fine dining, so we decided to splurge. I now have to reset my expectations as to what fine dining infers. Name, not snooty. Appearance, not lavish, but clean charming beach motif. Wait staff, single server, no accent, attitude or David Niven pencil mustache, just a pleasant diner type waitress named Alexa, who couldn't have been more attentive to assure our dining experience was positive. The food was first class, all the way, vichyssoise for me gazpacho. For Mary. We shared a shrimpcargo appetizer and pear gorganzola salad. Mary had a huge ahi tuna appetizer for her entree, and I had their signature macadamia encrusted grilled salmon with a poppyseed orange sauce. They even brought us a complimentary pistachio bourbon cake for our anniversary. It would be tedious to adorn each offering individually with superlatives, because every portion was truly exceptional. To top it off, when the check arrived, we didn't need to take out a second mortgage. So, to answer the original question of how one was to define fine dining, it's like fine art. I'll know it when I see it, and I saw it at Harry's. Absolute must go.

Tylinh R.

Yelp
We were on a staycation at Zota Resort. The staff recommended Harry's for brunch. We did not have a nice welcome (rude and pretentious, to say the least) however we stayed anyway. Our waiter was amazing- very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and fresh- I had the Harry's Nogi and my husband had the Gloria Eggs Benedict. The banana bread was also moist and delectable, and the Cappuccinos hit the spot on a beautiful Sunday. This classy joint has beautiful outside seating. When Zota recommended this place, we had no idea what to expect as any first timer wouldn't. When I asked if there were any outside tables available rather then the only table in the back of the restaurant, facing the wall and having to share a small bench because the table next to us blocked the second seat, we were very snobbishly told that there were currently 200 reservations for outdoor tables. As a first timer, I was unaware the place took reservations and was completely turned off by this persons condescending tone. But I guess when you have 200 brunch reservations, 2 less returning customers doesn't make a difference. Even if one of them is a secret shopper. The restaurant is quaint and classy. Our meals were delicious. And our waiter was the best. It's worth a try. Hopefully you will have a better reception than we did. One and done for us!
google avatar

Teri P.

Yelp
I would LOVE to give Harry's a 5 as this venue is the nicest I've seen for a Breakfast place which included table cloths over a white table and chairs in a garden setting. Here's the problem: for a "normal" Breakfast omelette and my husband had waffle and egg w bacon, both came with side and toast. We did have 2 glasses of ice coffee and 2 cups of coffee (@ $5 and $6 a cup). Total bill was more than we paid for dinner that night at Dry Dock for dinner. Without tip $63. I can say. We won't be going back.

Yelp
Great little convenience store! We were greeted with good mornings and hellos by an older gentleman. They had a frozen and cold section. Lots of snacks, candy, packs of water bottles, alcohol, energy drinks, soda, etc.

Diane B.

Yelp
What is not to like about Harry's, decor, solid cocktails, varied menu options and delicious deserts. Craft cocktails, crab cakes, ahi tuna, steak frites and coconut cream pie. We will definitely return.
google avatar

Sally N.

Yelp
After many trips to longboat key we decided to try Harry's for dinner. It seems to be a classic dining spot with classic offerings. Their drinks are well-made and strong. The Manhattan really packed a punch as my family can attest to by my slurred speech (not a big drinker I can tell you). We ordered the baked goat cheese for an app. It had 2 hunks of goat cheese, a few olives & sun dried tomatoes as well as roasted garlic. It was tasty and had an appealing presentation. I ordered the famous crab cakes. Before I criticize them I admit the server warned me that they were 60% crabmeat. Maybe as a warning. I went ahead anyway. They were decent (but nothing to write home about) as were the sautéed veggies & mashed potatoes that accompanied them. The romelade sauce was basically tarter sauce, which I found disappointing. The best thing we ate that night was the pasta with tomatoes, garlic and pine nuts. My daughter got the fresh grouper on top. It was very good. But $51 was a steep price for this basic dish. It was a fun place to try but bring lots of cash it is pricey.
