A Food Expert's Guide to Eating in Athens, Greece - AFAR

"We kick off our morning at the takeout window of Harry’s Kitchen, a cubbyhole pie bakery opened in 2018 on a small pedestrian street in the center a short walk from our hotel. Owner Harris Satiridis, jovial and gray-haired, inherited the recipe for the sturdy crumbly dough from his grandmother, while the dozen-plus fillings are made by his wife, Yiouli, from recipes passed down generations." - Anya von Bremzen

Don’t miss this place! We stopped by Harry’s right when they opened at 7:00 AM, just before heading to the Acropolis and Parthenon at 8:00. It was so good, we came back again after our morning tour! We highly recommend the minced meat, mushroom, spinach, and apple pies — all were outstanding. We wanted more, and luckily, there were cheese and spinach minis that Harry generously gave us on the house. The best pies we’ve had on our trip to Greece!

We were walking past and were stopped by the smell of Harry's Kitchens DELICIOUS pies. We are so glad we tried the pies before heading home to the airport! One of our Athens highlights. We highly recommend and Harry was very nice and proud chef, saying they make the pies daily. Super fresh and spoke English as well which helped with ordering!

We've been walking past this place for a very long time, finally we had a chance to stop and get some of the pies. Super fresh, well made on the premise, nice variety, and the service is good, you can get a glimpse of Harry now and then preparing his pies. There are benches to sit on that are reserved for his customers, and can watch the people going by while enjoying the food. Have been there twice now

My wife and I have been trying spanakopita all over Athens, Santorini, and Crete. This is the best found in the entire country in our opinion. Mushroom pie and cheese pie is just as amazing!! Harry and his wife are adorable. We wish we can have another!!

The magic of travel comes in serendipitous moments: you're walking down an empty pedestrian street at 7:00 a.m. , and a tiny door opens casting a little light onto the street. Then the most lovely smiling man --Harry-- appears with trays full of fresh baked pitas--mushroom, cheese, meat, apple. Catch them before they're all gone! Harry and his charming wife Giuli have created such a wonderful business with a few delectable pies and the best good cheer. It's one of those spots unique to Athens and for how long, who knows? But each time I am in Athens, I'll be sure to visit this little window, evocative of all the things I love about Athens and its welcoming people.

Amazing homemade pies! Tiny family run take away window with such friendly owners. We loved the ham and cheese pie and the spinach feta pie. They are soft folded pastries with many filling options. Great little find for snacks breakfast or light lunch!

I can only say they are the best greek pies I’ve had in Greece. When we found it, it became our place to have breakfast every day, trying a new flavour and each time we were more amazed than the previous. Still, classic feta is my fav. It is a MUST! And Harry is just so friendly :)
