Hartenberg Wine Estate

My wife and I hosted our gender reveal at Hartenberg Wine Estate, and I was truly impressed by how professional and effortless the entire experience was. From the initial email correspondence to the day itself, everything was handled seamlessly. We arrived to find all the tables beautifully set up with tablecloths and flowers — details we hadn’t even requested. There was also a giant Jenga on the lawn, along with beanbags and picnic blankets, which added a wonderful, relaxed touch to the day. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a beautiful setting, delicious food, amazing wine, professional service, and a very cost-effective option. A special thank you to our waiters, Elshaun, Xander, Bongani, and Connie. You were all amazing — friendly, attentive, and highly professional. Thank you to Hartenberg for making our special day so memorable. We will definitely be back very soon.

Loved!!! Would hightly recommend. Had a lovely, lazy, quiet, spring sunday wine tasting and grazing platter. The staff where very attentive, welcoming and friendly. Our waiter (forgotten her name) was very very knowledgeable and gave us a an unforgettable tasting experience. The grazing platter was of high quality but could've used a little more bread or crackers to compliment the cheese!

Hartenberg Wine Estate offers a beautiful setting for lunch or dinner outside in the garden area with attentive service, good food and fine wine. However, this time on our 4th visit, I was disappointed in the so-called Grazing Platter, which was to include charcuterie. The plate was appetizingly presented offered extremely little: one small wedge of hard cheese, one slice of salami, four pieces of diverse breads (too many for the protein provided), olives, pate, and grapes. The price of $225 for one person was excessive for what was offered—compared to the Pan Seared Trout plate for R195. When we expressed our disappointment to the waiter, he kindly informed us that we were not the first customers to offer this criticism, but prices were higher now, etc. If this is the case, we strongly urge the chef to take these comments under advisement and to re-categorize the dish as an appetizer and not list it with the entrees or to re-calibrate the items/quantities presented. However, the wines were excellent and we loved the ambience!

One of our favourite wineries of South Africa, hands down (next to Rainbow's End). Almost a year later we still talk about its line of wines: memorable, reach, unique and special. The tasting was generous and surprising, and the wines were stunning.

An absolutely brilliant experience at Hartenberg Wine Estate! We were assisted by Onalo, who went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The wine is wonderful and we’d go again in a heartbeat!! 😊

A lovely spot to enjoy a wine tasting or even a bottle, perhaps the grazing platter if feeling peckish, but the mains failed. The burger is not what it used to be, with a new R195 price point you expect to be wowed, it didn't taste great and was still left unsatisfied. Chicken had slightly pink areas and was recooked, overall beautifully presented (R185). Kids meal was more than enough to be able to share. Service was ok, clearing of the plates wasn't done even after ordering and receiving desserts, blamed on short staffed, yet on two occasions waiter didn't bother taking any plates with to the kitchen area? The focus here is being a Wine Farm, not a restaurant, point cleary made. The wines are truely wonderful and worth a try - after lunch time. Revisit: Had perfectly cooked medium steaks, Salmon salad well presented and would say these 2 are excellent choices when having a plated lunch. Our server did a fantastic job, food all served at once, table was cleared promptly after last empty plate, coffee served warm and overall friendly and welcoming. Glad I was able to invite friends to expience this beautiful wine estate and leaving with a smile. Thank you

Had my second trip to Hartenberg (and it was on my birthday: 27 Dec 2025). I must say very nice tranquil environment, perfect for some one on one time for couples or groups that just wants to have a good conversation over a glass of wine without the hustle and noise. I would definitely recommend everyone goes and checks them out. Good service and good eats. Keep it up!

If I say that half of the wines we brought back to Europe came from Hartenberg (6 bottles within a 23kg luggage limit), that alone should be enough of a recommendation for their quality. Living in Europe, I returned to Hartenberg after seven years, and I don’t regret it. Despite the poor weather, we had a wonderful indoor tasting, and the wines we brought back are still waiting for a special occasion. This was my second visit, and I hope it won’t be the last.
