The service was excellent and the location is great! However, the bathrooms are SO small and the bathroom door is always in the way. I backed into the door knob in the bathroom while getting ready and have a huge bruise from it. There’s also not many amenities; there’s free coffee and water but no breakfast (and you have to pay for the snacks in the lobby). The TV in our room also didn’t have any clear channels - everything was grainy. I expected more for the price. This isn’t the hotel’s fault, but there were so many rude guests on our floor. They were coming and going in the middle of the night, slamming doors, talking loud, and running into the walls, so it was hard to sleep. The rooms aren’t very soundproof. They also never emailed me a copy of my receipt, so I had to call them after I returned home from my trip to get it.

I’ve stayed here twice and already have plans to come back! The hotel is older, but the rooms have been updated very nicely — everything is clean, modern, and comfortable. The staff is attentive and welcoming, making each stay feel easy and relaxing. The rooms are a bit smaller and accommodations are more limited compared to larger hotels, but the combination of cleanliness, great service, and a fantastic location easily outweighs that. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a well-kept, friendly place to stay!

This was the worst experience I’ve had. Think carefully before trading cleanliness, quiet, and your money just for the location—it’s not worth it. The soundproofing is terrible: you can hear people coughing, showering, and even their TV. The cleaning staff rudely knocked and urged me to leave nearly an hour before checkout. And yet, the place was far from clean—the toilet, bed, and floors were dirty. It’s pretty clear they don’t change the bedding. Guess what surprises you might find in your sheets. also the wifi slow as 2000s

I was staying at this hotel on business and have never been to Boston before so I was very excited about the location. Upon check in, the front desk person was very rude and had me pay with my credit card, when i know for a fact, the company that booked my hotel had a card on file (first red flag). The next night, I woke up suddenly around 3am to realize my phone died. When I went to plug it in, it would not charge so I tested my computer that was already charged and that would not either. I called the front desk and the man was super rude over the phone. He did not speak very good english and so I repeated my problem multiple times and each time he grew more and more angry. At this point I did not want to deal with him but I sucked it up and went downstairs to try and charge my phone there because I needed it for an alarm. I get down there and this man plugs in my phone for 1 second (no exaggeration) and unplugs it and claims it’s not going to work and my charger is broken. I then go on to ask if he has a charger I could try because maybe my charger is the problem. He got very aggressive and went on a whole rant (not even really sure what he was trying to say) about how I cannot use any other charger. Then I politely ask him to try again. He does (for 2 second this time) and what do you know… my phone chargers! As I am turning on my phone he UNPLUGS THE PHONE and says how it is not charging and this is not going to work. I kindly point out that it is charging and that there is a problem with my room. Out of curiosity, I ask if there are any other rooms available that I could switch to so that I am able to charge my devices with I stay there for the next few days. This man became very angry and degrading very fast. He was telling me that I am not allowed to go to other people’s rooms to charge my phone and that is not how things work… um… yes… I know. I would not ask to use a random persons room to charge my device… that’s not what I was asking. Then I decided to charge my phone while sitting on the couch in the lobby and the whole time he was asking me if I was there alone and if my phone was charging. He probably asked me if my phone was charging 5 times. After about 15 minutes I went back to my room and by some miracle my devices are able to be charged again in the hotel! This whole interaction made me feel very uncomfortable and especially after reading some of the other reviews, I was scared to be down there alone. I would not recommend staying here alone especially if you are traveling alone as a woman.

Harvard Square Hotel – Ivy League Views, Boutique Snooze If location is everything, this hotel has a PhD in being perfectly placed. Room 320 gave me a front-row seat to Harvard Square — snowfall, street sounds, and that unmistakable Cambridge charm. You can practically hear the dissertations being written. The rooms are on the small side — more “efficient” than “spacious” — and the shower takes that concept to the extreme. It’s so narrow that avoiding the first blast of cold water is impossible unless you have Matrix-level reflexes. I considered it my daily cold plunge and called it character-building. One less charming moment: the lobby is tiny, and while sipping my morning coffee, I overheard a pretty tense exchange between staff at the front desk. Not ideal when you’re trying to ease into your day. The staff was friendly otherwise, but in a space that small, drama travels. At $300+ a night, it’s not a steal — especially with no breakfast — but for the unbeatable access to Harvard’s campus and the energy of the square, it still lands as a solid choice for campus visitors and urban explorers alike.

I am sharing this review so that other parents are able to adequately prepare for a stay at the Harvard Square hotel. When confirming the reservation, I requested a crib. I was given a pack and play, which would normally be fine, but the pack and play was in terrible shape and not sturdy - I did not believe it was safe for my infant to sleep in. Additionally, they put a regular bedsheet in it, as opposed to a proper crib sheet, which for a young infant can be very dangerous. I was very grateful that I drove and brought my own pack and play just in case.

Over-priced for mediocre accomodations. The room assigned to us was small, but had a good view of downtown Cambridge. The prime benefit is "location" since the hotel is close to Harvard Square and a "T" Station. The hotel's lack of a continental breakfast forced us to eat in pricy restaurants.

Google
Our stay at the Harvard Square Hotel was terrifying. We traveled as a group of 20 for a conference at Harvard, expecting a pleasant and professional experience, but instead, we were met with one of the most disturbing incidents I’ve ever encountered. One of our members went down to the front desk and asked to book an additional hotel room, and a hotel employee simply grabbed a key card and told her he would accompany her to her room. The employee tried to get close to her in the elevator and followed her into the vacant hotel room. Once inside, he attempted to touch her. Thankfully, she was able to escape before anything worse happened, but the emotional and psychological toll of this incident was immense. This is a gross violation of safety and trust. To make matters worse, the hotel staff’s response was inadequate. Instead of offering any meaningful support or addressing the seriousness of the situation, they only offered to refund our group for ONE night of our stay, which is a deeply offensive response to what occurred. We called the police, and they came to the hotel to investigate the situation, but this only added to the distress and trauma we experienced. This entire experience left our group feeling unsafe and traumatized. We came to Harvard Square expecting a professional, secure, and wholesome environment. I strongly advise anyone considering staying here to look elsewhere for their safety and well-being.

Yelp
I cannot say enough great things about this lovely hotel. Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by Richard who was so incredibly kind, polite, and helpful throughout my stay. I cannot overstate how amazing Richard was in his dealings with me as well as with the other staff. I was able to check into my room early. After a red eye flight from the west coast, this meant so much. The room was small but clean and well appointed. Proximity to Harvard Square and Harvard Yard was key for my visit. So, the location was perfect. The entire staff was knowledgeable, respectful, and patient. I wish I could remember each person's name. I've never had such consistent positive interaction with hotel staff. I would not hesitate to come back to this establishment.

Yelp
This hotel is located in the heart of Cambridge and large windows in the lobby allow for a fabulous view of the bustling neighborhood outside. The lobby is located one level above street level so you have to walk up some stairs or take the elevator to get there. The check in process was easy and the gentleman who assisted me was friendly and helpful. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The shower head did not have a great water pressure but otherwise I was very pleased with the room. I slept well and enjoyed the free coffee in the lobby in the morning. The check out process was very simple and the gentleman who assisted me was charming and professional. I love that the location of this hotel is within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
I wish I could give zero stars because that's what this trashy property deserves. Let's start from the top--how do your computers go down at check-in time? But I digress. Let's start with the overweight, clearly insecure, clearly uneducated and power-tripping front desk manager. She's a real wack job. Apparently, it's a problem for a Harvard alum, to stay at the Harvard Square Hotel without being chastised for, well, being a Harvard alum. Keys didn't work. Sketchy security. Rude, incompetent desk staff, nasty rooms to match the nasty attitude of the ignorant people who work there. Stay at the Charles Hotel, but whatever you do, don't stay here. They claimed I was "trespassing" and called the police just because I complained that my room keys didn't work. Really? It's an outdated property with scuffed paint and tattered bedding. Yet they're charging $400 a night. GTFOH. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with this place. When I attended Harvard 25 years ago, this used to be a decent establishment. Not any more. Dummies at the desk with low self-esteem who want to flex if you have any complaints. I'm sorry, but the customer is always right--except here. Here, the customer is liable to be vilified just for voicing a legitimate complaint. If you're accustomed to high quality staff and accommodations, this is not the place for you. Because a trashy staff and a trashy room is all you'll get here. To the so-called "manager" on duty tonight, try Weight Watchers or Ozempic. Maybe losing a few pounds will make you a better person inside. Screw this place.

Yelp
Erroneously charged my personal card instead of the company card after ensuring me that my personal card would not be charged. When I called a few days later they said they would refund the charge but apparently completely neglected to do so. Called a week after that and they had no record of this conversation. Still have not received the refund.

Sabrina N.

Yelp
This hotel has a great location and they know it. For the room price, you don't get value. I stayed a week and the AC wasn't working almost the entire time. I have a suspicion they turn it off to save money because it could have been fixed in a few days. I asked for extra pillows and they said they didn't have any. I've never been to a hotel that didn't have extra pillows. I tried calling the front desk three times and not once did someone pick up. Overall, I didn't feel I got a fair deal.

Yelp
Amazing service and stay. Caucasian manager at front desk was extremely helpful and housekeeping staff was excellent. The hotel is clean with a stylish contemporary vibe. Love the laminate floors in the rooms.Location is unbeatable. Lacks amenities, but unnecessary given the high walk score to everything. Love to come back next time.

Yelp
AC has been broken for over 2 years, DO NOT stay in SUMMER The hotel itself is nice; rooms were clean, staff was friendly, free coffee and tea (but not water), and a great location. The only problem was that the air conditioning was broken during the entire stay I asked the staff on the first night if the air conditioning was working. They said it was broken, but assured me someone was coming to fix it the next day. Here I am on night 3 with still no fix sitting in a 90 degree room. I would have already switched hotels if they weren't all fully booked. I can't believe I am paying over $350 a night to "sleep" in a sauna. Not only that I barely got an apology, and when asked to speak to the manger was told "They might be in tomorrow". Definitely choose another hotel if you want a good night's sleep.

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE! On 8/15/22 we were rudely awakened at 7:50 am on the first day of our vacation by a barrage of what sounded like an artillery gun battle that was continuous and unrelenting. It turned out there was a construction crew working on the roof that was set to work all day. The hotel parking ramp is closed and there's no temporary parking in front of the lobby so we had to lug all our luggage the night before from a ramp down the street. The cute phone in the room is dead so you have to use your cell phone to call the front desk so they don't know a hotel guest is calling and you have to explain when you call. We called the front desk to complain about the noise and the attendant cut me off to deal with another guest and simply hung up on me. In additio to the numerous jackhammers on the roof we heard a lot of slamming doors and guessed there was a line of angry guests in the lobby. They really should have shut the hotel down because it's impossible to use the rooms with the crazy jackhammering right above your head. We're on the second floor which means you really can't get away from it. There's a sign in the lobby about construction and that the hotel is aware of the noise. But there's a huge difference between hearing the odd clang (what you'd expect) and a continuous and unrelenting army of jackhammers (yes plural) going at it right above your head. Nothing can prepare or warn you for this. There's no way we would have stayed here had we known. We are still hoping to get a refund.

Yelp
It's really convenient to the university and central Cambridge. The rooms are...fine. Our mattress pad was very stained and we had to ask to have it changed. The beds were reasonably comfortable. It's a sufficient hotel with parking, which was important to us, but it wasn't a particularly comfortable stay. The staff was nice.

Yelp
The AC doesn't work, the rooms are 80+ degrees, some staff members that I dealt with was less than pleasant in my interaction with them, there aren't any channel guides for the TV or reasonable resolution on the TV, and the fan that the front office staff provide are busted and held together with tape; this fan quit working after about 2 hours and was horribly loud when set to a higher speed. If nothing else, the GM was willing to refund the cost of the room since I found other accommodations that included climate control.

Yelp
I agree with lots of what was written about this hotel. You cannot beat this location in Cambridge, although what a bummer that Cambridge hotel prices have now joined the ranks of Washington, DC and NYC. $259 a night? Yikes. That's quite a bit, considering what I did -- and did not -- get. First of all, though, let me stress the positives: The room was immaculate and the bed extremely comfortable. it has a real feel of a European inn, but with more amenities. Loved the bathroom and the toiletries they provided; can't recall the line, but it was a higher end shwanky one. I still smell great. Also really appreciated that they offer free wireless internet access; they must take reviews seriously, because someone in a previous review mentioned there wasn't any and now there is. Appreciated that. A few challenges/things I didn't appreciate: 1. While I loved that it had parking on-site, I cannot believe they charged $35 for it. It's not like anyone parks your car for you, it's just for having the pleasure of keeping your car there. Next to the Thrifty car rental. Having written that, I did ask whether I could keep my car there while I went to my meeting the next morning, and they did let me do that -- so HSH giveth as much as it occasionally taketh away. 2. I agree with others that it's unfortunate there is not workout room at the hotel. Fortunately, the weather was great when I was there and my workout room became the path around the Charles River, so it worked out. But in the winter or bad weather that's something many of us frequent travelers look for. 3. Was so excited to come down to the lobby to see coffee out. Was then extremely put off when the person at the front desk asked me for my room number. "Oh," I said, "There's a charge?" Yup. Starbuck's. $2 a cup. I stayed at the Hampton Inn a few days earlier in a room that was $100 less, still got free internet, and free coffee was brewed 24/7. I think having some coffee out for guests first thing in the morning and not charging them more would be a great change for this hotel. 4. One thing as a heads up -- the air conditioning worked GREAT. And while I am NEVER one to complain about too much A/C and you can adjust it in your room, the way my room was set up was that the fan blows directly on you as you sit at the desk. So while I was doing work, I had cold air going into my ear; not good. I kept shutting it off then turning it back on when the room got warm. Not sure if that was just my room or others as well, but worth checking int. Overall, if you can afford it, this is really a great place to stay!

Yelp
Stayed here for a night for a weekend trip Pros: - For the location, definitely can't beat the price (~$250/weekend summer night) - Location is super convenient - walk out the door and you're right in the middle of everything - plenty of restaurants, cafes, and cute shops to look around - Close to the Harvard Square T stop and buses - Walking distance to the Charles River (5 min away) and some parts of the Harvard Campus - Parking is additional $35 - Stairs are nicely lit b/c of floor to ceiling glass windows (not dark or dingy like most hotels); only 4-5 floors (if needed, there is a small elevator to bring up suitcases/luggage) - The rooms are clean and simple - TV and wifi worked pretty well Cons: - No complimentary breakfast - Complimentary snacks are located behind the reception area - inconvenient - Horrible water pressure for the sinks and showers - Not much of a view

Yelp
This place is a solid one. I booked on Hotels.com where it had a rating of "Excellent" No. There is nothing excellent about this place. It's a moderately comfortable place to lay your head. That's it. My room although nicely situated on the 4th floor and had a great view of the square , smelled like body odor and was stuffy. I left the window open while I was at dinner and had a terrible time trying to shut it. The whole room looked and felt pretty tired and dirty. If it's in your budget go stay a step away at the Charles Hotel or further out from the square where it's more cost friendly. * Also a note after reading other reviews. A floor fan was on full blast when I arrived which leads me to believe that they STILL have not bothered to fix the AC from over a YEAR ago. Shame on them. There is no way I could tolerate this room in the summer with only a fan. Buyers beware!!!!

Yelp
We ended up at the Harvard Square Hotel after a reservation mixup at the Le Meridien. It worked out well, I'm pleased to say. The hotel is located in the heart of Harvard Square just minutes to the T station and near dozens of shops and restaurants. There is parking onsite, as well. The hotel, while small, is well appointed, clean and quiet. Our room felt modern and tidy, though its size is better suited for a single traveler than a couple. My only complaint? The closet space in the room and counter space in the bathroom were tiny! It felt like the bathroom was designed for looks, as opposed to actual use. That said, the front desk staff was always cheerful, friendly and helpful, making our stay pain free and positive.

Yelp
My experience has been consonant with that of the other Yelpers. The building was constructed as a hotel some 40 years ago and has gone through a large number of incarnations (according to the night person Emily). My friend Warren G. reports that it was a Treadway Inn in 1965. It is clean, nice-smelling and functional. It's basically across the street from Crema Cafe! So what more can you ask for? 1. A workout room. There is none, but you can go to the cardio room of the Inn at Harvard Square, which is a "sister hotel." 2. Free wireless access. There are countless networks that I see, most of them locked. Some of the unlocked networks take you to a login page where you have to enter or username and password or to a page where you enter credit card info. The Harvard Guest network is the one that I've been using, but it times out every 30 minutes and then defaults to an "I Agree" screen before I can resume my activities. Do people have a tendency to renege on their agreements at Harvard?

Yelp
Considering the outrageous prices for hotels in the Harvard Square area, especially in the fall, it seems ludicrous to pay nearly $200/night for a room at the Harvard Square Hotel... But then you realize that it's nearly 3x that down the street at the Charles Hotel. The hotel is conveniently located in the middle of Harvard Square - close to an Au Bon Pain, a Starbucks, a Peet's, Charlie's Kitchen (for late night burgers and beer) and Pinocchio's. And close to a T stop. The hotel rooms are clean, comfortable and understated, and the staff are nice and helpful. What more could you want?

Yelp
I have stayed here 4 times over the past 8 years. Always chose it because of the price and location. Was the best deal for a hotel a couple blocks from Harvard Square. When I arrived this year I was very happily surprised to see the renovations. The rooms are modern, clean, bright and quite beautiful. I always get a corner room as they are a bit bigger for the same price plus I like the open feel of 2 walls of windows. (Afternoon sun can make them hot so maybe keep the curtains drawn when you are out of the room.) Room was super clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Bathroom modern and spacious. Not a lot of room for toiletries but I don't have that much so not an issue for me. Loved the big shower with no door, just modern glass wall. I like the modern decor, lots of bright white with pops of red. Great to have a good desk and rolling chair. Free wireless and a refrigerator in the room. Starbucks coffee, fruit, snack foods in lobby for a reasonable charge. Staff is very friendly, helpful, efficient. iPad and printer in lobby. The desk also sent a fax for me. Lots of cafes, restaurants and shops within the neighboring blocks. Lots and with great variety. Harvard Square is just around the corner. T station a block away (has elevator for luggage, wheelchairs, the stair challenged). Thrifty car rental just off the lobby. ( I got a good price on a car at the end of my stay and was allowed to return it to the airport for no extra charge saving me extra transportation fees.) This last visit was August 24th to the 30th so all the hotels were packed with parents and students entering Harvard. I booked via AAA and got a good price (Cambridge is pricey, especially when school events are happening. I paid a little over $200 including tax.) A friend I was meeting with stayed across the street at the Charles (our rooms faced each other) because his company paid for his stay. His room was no bigger or nicer than mine (again the corner rooms are a bit bigger than the other rooms)and cost about twice as much. The Charles has more amenities but I don't care about a hotel bar or room service. I will try to post some photos. With the renovation i have no reservations recommending this hotel.

Yelp
In a convenient location, but lousy service. After 3 days of complaining about the lack of air conditioning in our room (80 degrees at night), we were finally told that it did not work in *any* of the rooms. "It will be working tomorrow" (after we leave). No apology, no discount offered. Also, the TV reception in our room was snowy on every channel. Sad.
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
Terrible facility. According to the front desk my AC was considered working even though my room still felt like 80+ degrees with blinds drawn and an extra fan on. Bedsheets and linen were scratchy.
google avatar

Maria D.

Yelp
The lack of hospitality is outstanding and appallingly unapologetic. It is ridiculous to have a check-in time that is so late without rooms actually being ready on time. All I got was this was a small hotel and they can't accommodate my request to check in 10 min early because a room was not clean. If it isn't clean with 10 left is it going to be clean 10 minutes from now. The front desk lady was unhelpful and rude. Do not do not do not stay here.

Marc L.

Yelp
Was not a guest here. Walking around the square with family and 4 carry-on bags for the day. Looking slightly ridiculous. The general manager was extremely polite and offered to watch them for a few hours...No charge...Very nice...This is what hotel service means

Yelp
This place use to be the old Treadway Motel. Now, completely renovated. Rooms are clean, beds are comfy, front desk staff is very nice and helpful and accommodating. Easy parking and great location. Would stay here again. One comment - the single bed rooms (with a double bed) are quite small (ok for 1 but not 2)
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
I agree with much of the feedback. Great location and overall nice front desk. They use wayyy too much air freshener in the hallways. Leads you to believe they are hiding something. The temperature in the rooms is way too hot with no AC. Rooms are pretty small for price.

Yelp
The best thing about this hotel is its location, hands down. It's far from luxurious, but the bed was comfortable, everything in our room worked fine, and checking in/out was easy. The staff at the front desk were very helpful, suggesting some pubs in the neighborhood as well as booking a Duck tour for us. Recommended if you'll be spending your time out and about.
google avatar

Yelp
I almost did not choose to stay here due to poor reviews both here and elsewhere on the net, but ultimately decided that the location could not be beat for my purposes. We were really very pleased with our stay. The one major complaint in many of the reviews ... noise, WAS a factor one night out of three, with loud drunken male voices in the hallway, but the rest of our stay was close to flawless. I was unbelievably happy to be given check-in at 9:30AM (!) after an exhausting red-eye flight. I would happily stay here again for a good, comfortable hotel in a great location.

Yelp
Travel plans fell through and I found myself in Cambridge for two nights without a place to stay. Walking toward one of the many campus libraries and getting right with having to call up a Marriott or something at 300 a night, I happen upon Harvard Square Hotel. So I head inside and talk with Jessica. They have single king rooms, and they have them for only $140. She was super helpful, comped parking for the day as I'd had to park elsewhere to talk with info services people. My room looks recently renovated and is fantastic. The Euro-style 2/3 glass wall shower is a nice touch. Clean, a fridge, desk with both a desk chair and a modern armless occasional, and there's even a free-to-use safe in the closet (a lot of places I travel charge to get a key--this one is digital). Free internet, and I get 3.18Mbps down on a network diagnostic test. Pretty solid for a hotel. In all the room is great, comfortable, well-appointed and a fantastic price. I'll be back the next time I'm looking for a hotel on the square.

Yelp
The Harvard Square Hotel definitely IS for squares. They offer free wi-fi with poor service, which only exacerbates the lack of connectivity at the hotel. We constantly dealt with noisy roommates (even on different floors!) After complaining to the manager, he was rude and said that nothing was wrong with his hotel--a clear indicator that he has little control over the building he is supposed to be managing. Stay somewhere else, trust me. This place's prices aren't low; they're cheap. Very much missing the Harvard Inn, which always offered top quality rooms. The only upside was the close proximity to Harvard's campus, but the overall poor experience wasn't worth half the money we spent. We will not be returning.

Jeff P.

Yelp
If you want a miserable stay in Cambridge this is your spot. My room was so hot it was impossible to sleep, they obviously knew there was a problem because there was a cheap fan in the room. The so-called air conditioner smelled like it was burning when on and made so much noise it was a nuisance and even when on the room remained 85 degrees. The heat was not the only issue, the towels were like sand paper, the elevator had issues, and the complimentary water was warm despite being in a refrigerator. All this luxury for over $300/night... The only plus is that it's in a good location. That said I would have rather walked a bit more and been able to sleep at night, isn't that the point of a hotel? I would rather not come back to Cambridge than have to stay here again.

Indy D.

Yelp
Ridiculous that there is no heating on a night when it is supposed to be 37 F. Otherwise also, the rooms are small and dingy. Pass on this hotel if you have other options available.

Bill B.

Yelp
Small room, like a converted dorm or one of those airport hotels where the showers are part of the room. Yes the bathroom is separate but there is no fan in the bathroom and no glass or curtain to prevent water from getting on the bath floor. Nice bed but poor air flow in room, even with window open during a beautiful crisp Fall day (with a so-called "bomb cyclone" at night, so windy) in Boston but still 80 degrees in the room because the AC does not work. I can only imagine summer. You can do better. Maybe in midwinter with the windows open it would be nice. Nice location but disappointing.

Matt S.

Yelp
The room they put me in had and bed with dirty sheets and trash from the previous guest. When I called them to complain, they told me that forgot to clean my room, so they gave me another room. The new room was clean, but I had a rude awakening in the middle of the night when a stranger walked into my room. After this, I made an angry call to the front desk to ask them why someone else had a key to my room. They told me there was a mix up, and assured me it would never happen again. Needless to say, I didn't trust them and resorted to piling furniture up in front of my door. Not only was this unacceptably careless behavior, but the hotel did nothing to compensate me for this mistake. Not even a chocolate on my pillow.

Yelp
I've stayed at the Harvard Square Hotel and it's definitely satisfactory. It's centrally located in Cambridge and provides good customer service. However, it is quite pricey for what it is. I would have usually rather stayed in my classy Harvard dorm room! That said, if you are looking for simple convenience, this might be your spot... the great location, do-it-yourself parking (versus valet), and little cafe downstairs make the Harvard Square Hotel easy though not special...

Yelp
Location, location, location is a key advantage of this hotel, especially if you are visiting Harvard and want to be close to the T and Harvard Square. My Euro-style room was on the small side, but not uncomfortably so compared to many city hotels. The room was painted bright white and was sparkling clean, with large a large photograph of what looked to be a walkway at the Alhambra. The room was perfectly fine for my 2-night stay. The iron I used while I was there had seen better days, but that is often the case at hotels, I find. The front desk staff was very attentive and professional. I would stay here again.

Yelp
On it's surface, this hotel is fine. If you are looking for a hostel like hotel, great. But, if you are paying over $250 a night like I am, you probably would be disappointed by the small rooms, terrible views, and loud construction noises all night long. And don't bother calling the front desk. They don't care or try to have any customer service. No amenities. Bottom line, I won't ever stay here again. I said so to the "manager" and he hung up on me.

Yelp
Pros: Great location, cleanliness, modern decor Cons: Tiny bedrooms reminiscent of a dorm room, right outside a few bars so can get a little loud at night, no gym

Yelp
Arrived here to check in late at night (about 11:30) and buzzed the front door to be let in. No one answered... Knocked on a window and thankfully a hotel guest came to open it. We had booked on Expedia for a king bed. Ended up being a full... Very small, but they had no other rooms. So, basically, other than the very friendly staff, horrible start. Buuuutttt..... The hotel seemed modern and clean on the inside. Took the elevator up (a very slow elevator) worried that the rooms might not be modern and clean.... But they were immaculate and almost chic (although very, very small, which is honestly not a bad thing. The Wifi sucks.... It's extremely slow. Ultimately, for the price, this is a good place to stay. I'd recommend it based on the location (which, as everyone has said, is really great).

Yelp
It is kind of like a dorm. Location is great for Cambridge stuff. Very cheap. Stay somewhere nicer if the company is payin.

Yelp
Staff, lovely on the whole. Room, clean with nice furnishings. That said periodic moments of the whole room shaking beyond typical "one room over antics" was a bit confusing. This is Massachusetts not California. Tonight I'm trying to sleep and am being kept awake by the entire ceiling rattling. I'm on the top floor. Contacted the desk, told them about it. Engineering will be looking into it in the morning (for all the good that does me now). As I finish this the rattling continues and the room vibration has resumed.

Yelp
1-star hotel, 4-star price! Air conditioning was not working in the whole hotel! Tried to get a refund, but the owner/manager is a complete jerk. The rooms are small and cheaply furnished, like a college dorm room at a big state university. Do not waste your money on this dump! I have stayed at half a dozen hotels in Boston, all were way better. This place is worse than Motel 6.

Yelp
Refused to hold a bag for a late flight. Literally never encountered a hotel that won't do this. What the eff.

Yelp
Great location. Friendly staff. Adequate accomodations. Reasonable rates relative to other local hotels. If you're visiting the area to experience the local atmosphere and you don't need the cookie cutter feel of a chain hotel then I recommend this place. That's my driving motive, so Ill be back.

Yelp
The location is excellent. But that is really it. Don't expect ANYTHING else. No, I'm not kidding. This isn't a hotel, it's a motel. There is no room-service, no gym, no facilities of any kind, in fact there is barely a reception. Take the 40 year elevator and admire the way the vents at the bottom have fallen partly out of their slots a decade ago; walk the corridor to your room and enjoy the way the soviet-style pipes running down the dingy ceiling off-set the threadbare carpet; enter your room through its thin plywood door with no soundproofing (which will really pay-off at three in the morning when the drunk frat-children that use this place as a doss-house come home - you won't know whether you prefer the sounds of their shouting or the way that your door reverberates when they slam theirs); and then finally, and most of all, revel in the harmony created by the air conditioning pipes over your bed that make such wonderful music at varied intensities and times throughout the entire night. I saw reviews of friendly staff but didn't meet them. I did meet a night-clerk who was yelling f**k you into the phone at either her boyfriend or father at 3am. I saw claims of reasonable rates but paid over $200 a night. I saw mentions of early check-ins but was directed to a restaurant where I could 'relax' three blocks away. All in all, I have had better nights of sleep in a Motel 6 for less than a quarter of the price. Don't stay here unless the Charles can't find you a broom cupboard and you REALLY, REALLY need the location. Even then, consider staying in a cardboard box on the street - it will be cleaner, quieter, and you'll meet a better class of people.

Yelp
Best part of this hotel is its starbucks machine. Oh, and the location. However, it clearly has done SOME reservations over the last 7 or so years, but they stopped prematurely. First, their outdoor sign is so dated that im guessing its been there 30 or more years. They have attempted to "modernize" their rooms, but rather cheaply looking. Somehow, our room, initially looked nice enough, but the dim bathroom had a shower/tub that was way outdated. I am picky when it comes to hotels, because i appreciate a good one. I absolutely cannot stand when the bedding covers are white sheet, comforter, white sheet.. im willing to bet those comforters are not washed for each stay. There was no restaurant/ room service. Small things, like the interior of the fridge having some muck in it, and a few stains on the carpet.. these things add up.

Yelp
Great budget hotel. Has everything you could want for the price - no coffee in the rooms but a good refreshment bar downstairs, friendly staff, wheelchair access, basic but decent rooms with ensuite bathrooms and refrigerators. We had a few problems like our keys getting de-magnetised and the air con being unpredictable, but they have tried to put in measures to help with these things. Willing to help with all kinds of issues. Recommend.

Yelp
hospitality was nice, room was okay and clean along with the bathroom, but the hotel was most obviously old. the stench in the room smelled like mildew. the air conditioner was good in our room. wouldn't stay again, but for last minute and boston prices, it worked out well.

Yelp
Location can't be beat but that's about it. The slowest hotel Wi-Fi I have ever experienced, hair stuck to the door of my bathroom and linens that would be out of place at a motel six. Avoid at all cost if you can.

Yelp
I do not recommend this hotel. The rooms are inadequate, the water pressure is very poor, and most importantly, the air conditioner went out twice in one week. Last night my room temperature was 81 degrees. I was appalled by the lack of concern expressed by the staff and their indifference in trying to fix the AC. Very bad experience.

Yelp
Spent the night here last week and it was a $338 disappointment. The internet is glacially slow. One hour and ten minutes just to get to the log-on page! Not an exaggeration. I went to the front desk for help and they couldn't offer any. There were two poor guys from China in the lobby suffering from the lame wifi, too. Unacceptable, especially in one of the World's tech hubs. So, no Internet. All the business emails I had to answer that night were answered on my phone. The TV in my room didn't work, which was especially frustrating because of the lack of Internet. I called down for help and the guy who came up to my room couldn't get it to work. No TV. Oh, I tried calling the front desk a few hours before my arrival and no one answered the phone. It rang and rang before it disconnected. Tried again a few minutes later. No answer. Again, a few minutes after that. Apparently, there's only one person manning the front desk from 11:45 AM - 12:15 PM on a Monday, and he or she spends a lot of time doing something else. The maids begin cleaning rooms (banging their vacuum cleaners into anything they could hit) early, without regard to the guests who might be trying to sleep next door. Rooms are small with modern-ish furniture--mostly scuffed from the brutish maids. Bed was comfortable. Normally when I check out of a hotel, the person at the desk asks me how my stay was. Not here. I'm sure they knew the answer, and they're not interested in feedback, which is why I took the time to write this review. The location is great. The employees, while useless, seemed friendly enough. Period. They really shouldn't advertise that they have wifi.
