Solid, local Taos museum. Small, but well run. They were welcoming and gave us a quick overview of the building when we got there. Some of the modern art was underwhelming, as it can be in my opinion. However, it was cool to see some influential artists in the Taos area. If you’re looking for a way to experience some art and culture you can spend about an hour here then go next door for some wine tasting.

Nice museum with good permanent collection including Agnes Martin and featured exhibitions - like Lucita currently on display 😻. Convenient location with free parking. Must see for art lovers.

Google
A must Taos experience. The museum has a great representation of local artists but the reason to go is the spectacular Agnes Martin room with a Donald Judd seating group. It brought tears to my eyes!

This was a planned stop during a n RV trip lasting two months. They have some wonderful shows here, well worth a visit. It's in Taos, which is a lovely place

This is a must see for any visit to Taos if you love art. The building itself is absolutely extraordinary—I’ve never walked such a creaky and musical floor. 😊 The collection is extraordinary. The Baumann on the first floor is lovely. Plenty of TAS members on display—here are some of my highlights. The staff is really friendly, too.

Even if you only go for the Agnes Martin room, it’s totally worth it. But a really nice small museum, good representation of historical and contemporary local artists. We also were able to see the Raven Chacon which was excellent.

Fantastic collection esp the southwest landscapes. The Taos Moderna and some from the Taos seven. Lovely luminous works and a wonderful gift store. They are so nice there and have such lovely books and gifts. For a small place it’s well worth the stop. The building itself is wonderful.

Google
Beautiful mix of contemporary Taos artists : sculptors and painters as well as those artists of the beginning of the 20th century. Housed in an intimate setting. The Agnes Martin room is mindblowingly beautiful and worth spending considerable time, allowing oneself to let these works appear gently, gently... The Harwood is one of the most beautiful small museums I have ever visited. Staff made me feel so welcome :)

Yelp
The current exhibits were well curated, and very moving. The staff is top rate. This is not a touristy, gimmicky spot like most in Taos.

Yelp
We had a wonderful afternoon wandering through this museum. Lots of gems to get lost in and discuss. They have a great gift shop too. I definitely want to return soon!

Yelp
Stumbled on this museum in Taos- so glad we did! Friendly staff, good variety of work. Will go again to check out what's on display next time!

Yelp
I don't typically visit museums, but felt compelled as I passed the Harwood Museum of Art on the walk back to my bed & breakfast; I'm glad I did. While the collection is not necessarily extensive, it was interesting and worth the 20 minutes or so it took to walk through. I enjoyed the displays and the rain room.

Yelp
A cool museum. The current exhibit was all about low-rider culture. Different.

Yelp
Although this is a small museum, it is well worth seeking out (and besides, it's on historic Ledoux St.) We were renting a casita that was just steps away from this museum and we spent a pleasant afternoon here. Afterwards, I would recommend that you visit Linda Rauch Gallery which is right across the driveway. We love talking to people who are passionate about what they do. Also liked her dog. Then you can also walk a few steps further to the Black Mesa Winery tasting room.

Yelp
The Harwood has quality art, especially art that is relevant for the area, but I wanted more. I feel like I took my time in the Harwood, but I was totally finished in 45 minutes wondering if I missed a wing. They had good signage as you walked through, and good activities for older kids to get them involved, but I'm not sure the price is right for the experience.

Yelp
Harwood is one of the hidden art gems of New Mexico. It contains some of the most important artists from Northern New Mexico who have influenced the contemporary art world. It's wonderful to see traditional New Mexican Spanish and Native American art juxtoposed against contemporary work and gives you an idea of the depth of art in New Mexico. The recent Judy Chicago exhibition was fabulous and they continue to produce world-class exhibitions. This is a must-see museum in New Mexico.

Yelp
If you are in Taos before September 11, 2016, please do take time to visit the Harwood Museum. The museum is a delight and the current Mabel Dodge Lujan exhibit is - not - to - be - missed! This unprecedented exhibition focuses on the life and times of one of the early 20th century's most significant cultural figures. Mabel Dodge Lujan was responsible for bringing modern art and artists to Taos from Paris between 1918 and 1947. The art consists of a literal 'who's who' in modern art during that period. The Death Cart wood sculpture and the very informative graphic timeline were my favorites - but for the life of me I can't see any "add photo" button at the top of the Yelp page or I would add them. Just go.

Yelp
Need some time for your body to heal in between ski days? Check out the Harwood. The museum is small, but in a nice, manageable way - you can easily get through in a hour. The upstairs has a nice collection of Modern New Mexican and Latin American art. But the best part of my visit? Definitely JR, the site manager. He talked to my fiance and I for a good deal of time and was so enthusiastic about the museum and his job. He even gave us a personal tour through part of the museum and let us see their new state-of-the art auditorium. 5 stars for JR, 4 stars for the experience!

Yelp
We visited this museum last week during our spring break. $20 for two of us plus kids are free. Parking was easy. They had a huge retrospective by Agnes Martin which was pretty interesting, including pictures of her later in life and artwork she'd done before her major work that she's known for. There was little effort made to engage the younger art enthusiasts so we weren't able to stay very long (an hour). I'd like to come back and see more of what they have here, it appeared small but the rooms kept going on and on..

Yelp
A really lovely little museum. Every time we go, there's a new exhibition and I've never been disappointed. Aside from the local contributing artists, the sculpture -garden? front yard? I guess?, and the excellent visiting shows, the best part of this museum is the people associated with it. On our last visit, I stopped to buy something at their little gift counter on our way out, and we ended up meeting a really knowledgeable woman who told us a lot about the museum and it's history, and about the current art market in Taos in general. Just a nice place to visit and see where the community, the universities, and the galleries cross paths.

Yelp
This small museum is worth a trip. I gave 4 stars because the lighting is not what I would consider adequate for a museum. It's in an old building, which is neat, but really they need to upgrade the lighting in many of the galleries. To see many New Mexico artists this museum fits the bill. Wish it was better lit to highlight the gorgeous art.

Yelp
Right next to Emil Bisttram's old studio. Nice collection of the old taos stuff... some new a well.

Yelp
Outstanding exhibit of local artists throughout the years. Perfect introduction to Taos artists, the wide variety of techniques and media and subject matter. Very good gift shop and polite and helpful museum workers. Especially love the old house that forms the heart of the museum.

Richard K.

Yelp
Unlike a lot of galleries that have one artist, this was a collection of local artists and the story of the woman responsible for bringing them all to Taos. Very nice exhibit.

Yelp
I was extremely disappointed with this place. This disappointment was not based on the collection - because they were not open ANY day that we tried to go there - but rather on the factors below. Also, we had a five-museum pass ($25 per person), and I felt ripped off because this place was closed so much that we could not get in and properly use our pass. 1) This museum does an absolutely awful job of making it known when they are closed due to inclement weather. We happened to encounter an employee of the museum and she said that they follow the closure schedule of UNM. I have not been able to find this statement anywhere on their site, so how is a potential visitor supposed to know this? She also told us that they state on their site when they closed. I went to their site trying to verify this, but could not find such a thing. It seems like their own employees should be apprised of where and when they disclose closures. Also, we called every time before arriving at the museum. Their answering service is not updated with a voice message saying they are closed, and our calls were never answered, so we were left with the decision to tramp through the snow to their building or not attempt to go at all. 2) I feel that their closure policy should be better disclosed on their site and should be changed, considering that this building is not part of the campus of UNM-Taos and that this is one of the most accessible museums in Taos. The snow crews cleaned out their parking lot and in front of the museum both days that we went and they were closed due to snow. At our hotel, we mentioned our disappointment in their high number of closures (as well as the Blumenschein's high number of closures), and they informed us that quite a few other people staying at our hotel had complained as well. Harwood, these are people that would have paid to go into your museum, so that equates to dollars that you did not receive! We attempted to go there two of the days that they were closed, but I think they were closed due to snow four days that week. Most of the galleries were open. We also had been out to the Martinez Hacienda on one of those days, which is much more remote than this museum, and it was open! 3) One of the times we walked through the snow to visit the museum, an employee was entering the museum, but because of their closure policy, she said they were closed. That is silly to me; if you have a staff member at your small museum, why not have it open? That makes more business sense to me. I normally do not write reviews either this negative or long, but this place was a huge disappointment!

Yelp
The Harwood museum in Taos holds outstanding exhibits. It is first and foremost a mecca of sorts for fans of abstract exressionist painter Agnes Martin, who lived in and near Taos for many years. While she may be the most critically respected artist ever to call NM home, there are few places in the state to view her work. The 'Agnes Martin gallery' has 7 acrylic paintings dating from 1993 when the artist donated them to the museum. She was reportedly delighted with the space the Harwood designed for them. Outside the gallery are 8 lithographs of the grid or line style familiar to fans of the artist's work, and several photos of Agnes on the opposite wall. In 2017, the museum received a donation of 'Tundra' , one of her earlier works (1967) and apparently thought lost. Museum staff mention that according to her wishes, she was cremated after dying in 2004, and her ashes are scattered in the museum courtyard. The Harwood should also be celebrated for 'Diebenkorn in New Mexico' an exhibit that still resonates emotionally years later.

Yelp
This art museum has a fine collection of New Mexican Christian Art.It has fine bultos, retablos, and death carts from New Mexico's past and present .It has fine works by;Juan Aragon,Antonio Molleno("San Miguel"),Charles Carrillo, and Patrocino Barela("Death Cart").It has a fine, but not comprehensive collection of paintings by painters associated with the Taos Society of Artists like;Ernest Blumenschein,E.Irving Couse("Cacique"),Bert Phillips,Victor Higgins("Winter Funeral")and Joseph Imhoff("Mission at Isleta").It has a nice collection of Minimalist Art by Agnes Martin also.I also liked their exhibit of works by Contemporary Artist,Gene Kloss(drawings and a few paintings).Although very provincial in scope,it was a worthwhile July half-day activity.
