8 must-visit places in Morocco - SilverKris

"Completed in 1993 to honour the king’s father, this monumental coastal mosque dominates the shoreline and occupies a vast 9-hectare site — making it one of the largest mosques in the world, second in scale only to the mosque in Mecca." - SilverKris

The third biggest mosque in the world is impressive in so many ways. Architecturerly it is beautiful, it has a roof that opens and can hold 25000 inside and 80000 outside. And yet it has an atmosphere that is so peaceful and welcoming it almost feels personal. Just for clarity I am not in any sense a religious person but I do appreciate and respect others views and do not believe everything is black and white. We had a very impressive guide who was very knowledgeable and funny. I would highly recommend visiting. I hope this isn't disrespectful but I would like to see a service, that would be very educational.

The Hassan II Mosque, is one of the largest mosques in the world. Completed in 1993, commissioned by King Hassan II and designed by French architect. Built partially in the Atlantic Ocean, with a laser pointing to Mecca (at night). From a distance, the mosque appears integrated into the cityscape. However, up close, its massive scale becomes evident. The minaret stands at 210 meters, making it the second tallest in the world (#1 before 2025). The exterior combines traditional Moroccan motifs with modern engineering. Inside, the prayer hall can hold up to 25,000 people, with space for an additional 80,000 in the courtyard. The decorations include intricate zellige tilework, carved wood, marble floors, and massive 600kg chandeliers. A standout feature is the retractable roof, allowing natural light and ventilation. The seaside location adds to the ambiance, with ocean views visible through glass floors in parts of the structure. Overall, it’s an impressive blend of faith, architecture, and innovation. Worth visiting for its historical and cultural significance. A must see if you’re in Casablanca.

This is an absolute must-visit if you are in Morocco, and essential if you are in Casablanca. Honestly, photos simply do not do it justice. You have to see it with your own eyes to understand how monumental and huge this building really is. It is breathtaking and truly unique. Highly recommended!

Amazing great mosque. It is a really big mosque, with beautiful architecture. It is build on the ocean. Big place for prayer. For man and women separatly. Great imam with such an uncredible voice. The mosque has also a hammam and bath with sea salt and shower jet. Great space to relax. Really clean and not crowded

It is a magnificent mosque and well worth a visit. The king spared no expense, which is evident in the materials and craftsmanship, both outside and especially inside. We were very grateful to our guide for her professionalism and charisma. She was funny, knowledgeable, and able to keep a group of dozens of people fully engaged.

An absolutely breathtaking landmark and a must-visit in Casablanca. Standing dramatically over the Atlantic Ocean, the Hassan II Mosque feels both powerful and serene. The scale alone is awe-inspiring—the soaring minaret, intricate mosaics, hand-carved wood, and marble details reflect extraordinary Moroccan craftsmanship.

Absolutely beautiful mosque with its huge, singular tower. The mosaics are amazing as is the interior with its vast and huge archways. Wandering the incredible interior is almost as spectacular as the exterior with the mosque set against the waves and coastline

Absolutely stunning and a must-see in Casablanca. I came at night and it was incredible. The lighting makes the whole mosque glow and you can hear the ocean right beside it. The scale and detail of the architecture are unbelievable and the location right on the water makes it even more special. Even if you’re not visiting for religious reasons it’s worth coming for the history, the design, and the peaceful atmosphere. The staff and security were friendly and respectful. It was probably the highlight of my time in Casablanca. I can only imagine how beautiful it must look during the day but at night it felt magical.
