Hastings House Country House Hotel is truly one of my favourite wedding venues to work at. I’ve had the pleasure of doing both photo and video at many weddings there, and every time I’m reminded just how special this place is. The grounds are breathtaking, the historic buildings add so much character, and there’s a quiet charm that makes every wedding feel intimate and timeless. Couples and guests always rave about the beautiful setting, the incredible food, and the warm, attentive staff who make sure everything runs smoothly. From a media perspective, it’s a dream — every corner is picturesque, and the atmosphere is always relaxed and welcoming. If you’re looking for a venue that’s romantic, elegant, and full of West Coast magic, Hastings House is it. Can’t wait to be back for the next one!

Hasting House is tranquil, elegant, and and extremely desirable place for a quiet romantic get away... the Food is OUTSTANDING, The gardens and entire estate is gorgious. One must literally smell the flowers, admire the plantings, landscaping , listen to the birds, watch the bunnies! . I could not help but talk to the 4 sheep. We are eager to return. Highly recommed for a CHILDLESS romantic escape. Please do not bring children that would break the silence!

Slightly confusing parking and restaurant layout with a roaming host. The food was of a higher quality in most aspects(scalloped potatoes weren't great), slightly overpriced for a not quite fine dining experience. The head server was excellent.

If you’re visiting for dinner make sure you have secured a cab back to your accommodation. My family’s 90 min walk back at 9pm because the only cab service in the island was busy and Hastings did not have transport service made the evening less enjoyable.

We had a delightful stay at Hastings House Country House Hotel on Saltspring Island. We didn't appreciate until our arrival what a special place this is, set on 22 acres of forest, woodland, fields and gardens (including an extensive vegetable garden whose products are served in the charming restaurant), overlooking the bustling Long Harbour across from the town of Ganges. Around 7:30 or so in the morning, warm muffins are delivered to your door, to be consumed on your private patio, in order to set you up for a delicious breakfast in the Manor House, complete with wonderful views. All the staff were courteous and professional, and very helpful. We especially loved the "happy hour" patio time, having a lovely glass of wine and snacks and conversing with some of the other lovely guests. Andrew and Heidi from Vancouver

Edit: The general manager called me personally to apologize for service that didn't meet their standards. He offered multiple ways to make up for the shortcomings and said he would ensure that our feedback leads to addressing training gaps and improved service in the future. I greatly appreciate a general manager willing to personally addresses concerns and look forward to returning one day. The setting is gorgeous but our stay was so disappointing. At nearly $500 CAD per night, we expected great service and it was terrible. Several weeks before they asked when we were arriving so they could send the shuttle and despite confirming the night before, when we arrived, it wasn't there. Our room was spacious but quite dated and our windows needed cleaning. After our first night, housekeeping walked into our room at 9, we were still in bed. Breakfast was the best part of our amenities and service was friendly but overall, not worth what we paid. On our last night, we asked about our return shuttle and they said they'd call us to confirm the driver or help us arrange a taxi. Neither happened and when we called, no one answered. At 6:30 am in the dark, we walked with our luggage 20 minutes to the float plane terminal. This property is charming and picturesque but should be priced at half of what we paid. It's essentially like a 3-star hotel with 5-star pricing.

Lovely hotel staff. I would like to call out Will, Issac, Jeremy and Jack.|They are such hard workers and truly are customer centric.|It is a lovely place to visit when on Salt Sptinh Island. I recommend two nights here as it is a small island.|The famous chef is just that famous for creating masterpieces. The first night he was there and I had the lamb roast with a mustard seed sauce, very tender, zucchini with the squash blossom I so appreciated and lots of veggies.|The endive salad is very special. They are very lucky to have such an incredible chef who makes this a R&C restaurant awards abound on the walls.||I recommend the Somerset room if you want a/c and a large expansive lovely room with a view. Farm East/West were booked for a large family gathering as well as they took out all of the tables from other rooms to accommodate a local couple's anniversary so thank goodness the weather outside was divine otherwise you have to go into a conservatory with no charm and are not able to dine in the historic part of the property which is why I came to this country home.|The wait staff and kitchen are managed separately and do their own thing so it is not consistent service with the rest of the property. If the servers are in a good mood it lifts the energy if not it can be a bit of a negative vibe going on with the workers.||I am senstive to energy and all it would take is a nice smile and a welcoming attitude. It does not need to be so serious it is suppose to be a joyous time.|You will meet people who come to dinner from their boats, hotel guests and locals.

Yelp
We made a plan to be here 4 nights on Salt island and started off with a marvelous dinner in the manor house. With a fantastic view into the harbor we knew the evening would be great. And the staff and food prep did not disappoint! Started out with lobster bisque (with a good amount of lobster) and a dozen snails (chef slipped a couple extra!) in a marvelous garlic butter and Parmesan sprinkled over all. Then for entree we enjoyed a wonderfully prepared Herb Crusted Wild Pacific Red Snapper With Creamy Parmesan Polenta, Basil Pesto. I enjoyed the Pan-Seared Nova Scotia Deep Sea Scallops on a fresh bed of lettuce mix and greens. So definitely a restaurant to try but you'll want to plan staying a night or more given they are on an island off the Vancouver island! Rooms are great also with some placed in cabins with views making you feel like you're in a tree house amongst the pines. Of particular notes, each morning different fresh baked muffins mysteriously appeared outside the suite door . But definitely the breakfast each day was amazing.

Yelp
We stayed four nights at the Hasting Country House and was disappointed for the price. The hotel is in a nice location in Ganges Habour and provides great views of incoming boats from the dining room and main grounds. Beautiful grounds and interesting gardens to walk through. The staff where attentive but seems overworked. We stayed in a hillside villa and found the bed and linens where comfortable but the bathroom and attention to details in decor where lacking. The food in the dining room is very expensive and the quality was substandard considering the cost. There is no bistro only the dining room, no english tea in the afternoon and breakfast which is included was ok but nothing fancy. The afternoon cocktails where quite good. We enjoyed our stay and would come back but would not dine here again and would make sure to book the room at the lowest rate.

Yelp
This place made me feel like I had taken a magical time machine to England instead of a ferry. We stayed in The Greenhouse and it was just lovely. The giant windows that look out over the property and the water were delightful in the morning. The customer service was really friendly and accommodating. You wake up to warm muffins hanging on your door in the morning... COME ON. They did a lovely turn down service for the pull out couch in our room too. The breakfasts were SO GOOD and changed daily. The afternoon tea was the final touch that threw me over the edge into love.

Yelp
The best place to stay on the island.. and definitely one of the best places to stay in BC! We were there to celebrate my husbands birthday and our wedding anniversary. We couldn't have picked a better place. A beautiful british manor with a farmish twist. When you walk on the grounds, you get lost in the surroundings. It feels like you are on a country farm in the middle of nowhere. We stayed in the Heather suite. We had tall trees and lots of wildlife all around us. The room was quiet, cozy, and beautiful. Loved the bathroom....great tub!! Can't say enough abou the service. Every morning, we had muffins left at our doorstep. Later in the day, we had "turn down" service with more delectable treats. Anything we needed, they couldn't wait to help out -- even info about places to explore on the island. We became good friends with most of the staff. The dining area has magnificent cuisine. One of the reasons the Hastings House has NO competition on the island - WORLD CLASS chefs and service. Beautiful English manor settings. Exceptional EVERYTHING. A very easy walk into town. I highly recommend coming to the Hastings House!!

Yelp
Love it here! Had NO idea we had a Relais Chateaux property so close... I was recently introduced to the Hastings House and was blown away. Truly a fantastic country house experience- super quiet, quaint with an ocean view, gardens to stroll through and fresh flowers in the room. As a kid at heart, I was over the moon that there were sheep grazing in the pasture next door and a fireplace that I could lounge around. Great service and we loved our dinner so much, most from the garden on the property - we went back for a second night in a row. When muffins were left at my door in the morning - I thought I would never leave. It was a really unique experience - and I will be back. Thanks so much.

Yelp
What you'll find when visiting: - Authentic English countryside inn/manor located right on the water. Over a century old and lovingly preserved. - Perfect breakfasts with specials that vary each day. - Lovely afternoon tea with freshly baked scones, cookies and little cakes. (Jams made in the kitchen. Much of the food grown in the garden.) - Rooms are spacious but cozy, with gas burning fireplaces, gorgeous views and comfy chairs. Great beds. - The staff are friendly and genuinely nice. They all seemed so happy. - The small spa has a competent and knowledgeable masseuse, Tara.

Yelp
Wonderful B&B, dowdy but cute cottage (needs way more light in the bathroom) and great grounds with a view. Given what's available on the island would have been a 5-star stay. However,... Three stars because when we went to get a table for dinner at the restaurant we were told there was no room for us. "You should have booked dinner when you checked in." We would have done so if someone would have asked us - or even told us they might be oversold. The dining room pointed the finger at the front desk and the front desk acted like it wasn't their problem. Instead of figuring out how to accommodate us, they handed us a menu and said we can order to eat in our room - not exactly what we had in mind. We don't have a car and at night it's dangerous to walk into town for dinner in the rain. Now we have to book a taxi and dinner elsewhere. Not really the professionalism you expect from a Relais and Chateaux property.

Yelp
We booked in with seven adults and one toddler for Easter weekend. The ambiance and staff friendliness was exactly as we remembered it from a previous stay. They handled my food allergies very well, which I appreciated. However, some details lapsed this time that affected our experience. I feel this can help others know ahead of time so they speak up immediately to get them rectified. First, Hastings House delivers a lovely muffin basket to your door each morning. However, this service was not consistently delivered. We were told it was because our adult sons declined turn down service the night before for their rooms. We weren't told turn down service affects the next day's morning room service. In addition, this happened on our granddaughter's birthday and we had asked for a special muffin or cupcake to be delivered, which also wasn't done. Despite having one wheelchair user in our group, we were seated at a table down a step for breakfast. We used our own portable ramp to take care of this. Their solution was to take the person through the backside of the restaurant through a utility entrance, which isn't ideal. The next day, they put us in a different location without a step, which was much better. However, service to our table was greatly lacking. We weren't the only people seated in this area, but we were the largest party. Everything from missing cutlery (while our breakfast cooled) to missing /far too small cream jugs (while our coffee cooled) to a lack of refills. We didn't mind a long and leisurely breakfast, but we simply didn't get sufficient service. My advice for others is to speak up. I know the staff would resolve these things if they knew about them. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, hoping they would realize their mistakes.

Yelp
Uppity and snobby service, very unattentive. Our server made snide comments about our wine choice, which is simply rude and unprofessional. Their menu is very very small, and they were unwilling to accomodate my companions with diet restrictions; they seemed stunned that someone couldn't eat shellfish, or that a vegetarian might not eat fish. Unbelievably expensive for what you get. The only upside is the nice location.

Yelp
A Love Story Marty and I were married 25 years ago in March 1990 in LA. We honeymooned at Hastings House. To celebrate our 25th, we took a week long vacation to visit friends and family. Each day I gave Marty something special as a token of my love. I needed 7 items that would remind us of our wedding and honeymoon. I contacted Eric at Hastings House and ask if he could send me 'a little something' to give my husband. WOW, Eric sent us their great cook book signed by the team at Hastings congratulating and wishing us well. It was so kind of everyone. A heart felt THANK YOU from Liz and Marty!

Yelp
We had been here twice before, in 1990 and 2000; both times magical. Went back this June for a special anniversary and methinks NO. Didn't pick us up at seaport as promised; didn't carry our bags when checked in; had totally wrong times for dinner res that were made in advance; didn't have hot water (AND THEY KNEW IT); didn't offer anything as make-good, even after we had to change rooms; no manager ever came by. More than once we called the office and got a voicemail, that was NEVER returned. We filled out their review at the venue and afterward from their online invitation to review, both scathing, and still no one seems to care. The geography of Ganges Harbor is gorgeous, the gardens fabulous and the Hastings House gardeners beyond lovely. But it seems that they have teenagers running the place. Such a shame. Certainly NOT Relais & Chateaus quality.

Yelp
If this werent a Relais and Chateaux, I might not bother to write a review. It is a very nice hotel, with great beds and comforters. The location is also lovely, as is the lawn and views. But this by no means meets Relais and Chateaux standards. There is no laundry service. (!) The coffee/tea amenities are thin at best. Not even brown or raw sugar which is ironic give that even the worst B & B in the UK always has raw sugar. Mediocre coffee. They dont replenish the bathroom amenities, only giving you shampoo, conditioner etc one time, and that is it. Rooms need to be updated, or at least mine did. Crooked lampshades; rundown furniture; a sink that didnt stop up; poor lighting; horrible cold (fluorescent?) lighting in the bathroom if you need more light than the couple light bulbs. Dim lighting in the rooms which isnt great at my age! No light in the closet. No bedroom slippers. Again, nothing majorly wrong, and a comfortable hotel certainly. But not even close to having the special little touches of class, taste and luxury one should find in a Relais and Chateaux.
