We love this place, we’ve visited the store before, but most of the time we order through UberEats. Lately, though, it’s been a bit tricky with the inventory system. Orders sometimes get cancelled or adjusted because certain items turn out to be unavailable, even when we order earlier in the day. At this point, only about one out of four orders goes through smoothly, so it almost feels like winning the lottery! If possible, please look into improving the inventory sync with UberEats; it would really make the experience better. I also want to thank the staff who handled our October 11 order around 1 p.m. We received almost all the items we wanted, the refund process (handled by UberEats) went smoothly, and most importantly, you showed that you genuinely cared when you tried to reach out to us again after we missed the first call, which really stood out and meant a lot. Thank you for going the extra mile!

The custard and milk filling is insanely good. Bread itself is okay but I'm not complaining. I wish Hattendo opens a store in NYC.

A clean and cozy Japanese style bakery shop. We ordered couples of different bun, I had the cream bun that’s was very delicious, not too sweet and it’s very soft and well chilled. There are two wooden bench right outside the shop and can sit to enjoy the afternoon.

We had such a great experience at Hattendo on Baldwin Street! This cute little café totally gave us those cozy Japan vibes from the decor to the little details. Everything felt thoughtfully designed. We got to try their limited edition Sakura Bun and the Matcha Sakura Cake, and both were absolutely delicious, light, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Such a treat! They even had the traditional Japanese omikuji fortune experience (you shake the wooden cylinder, pull out a stick, and match the number to your fortune). Funny enough, I ended up with a number that had no fortunes left. Just my luck 😅 but it's still a really fun touch! The staff were super friendly, and we loved sitting at the counter seating by the window. It was the perfect spot to people-watch and take in the vibe as customers came and went. If you’re looking for a cute, relaxing spot in Toronto that gives you a taste of Japan, we highly recommend checking out Hattendo!

Extremely poor customer service. The male staff working on Saturday, Aug 23 around 7:30pm had a very unprofessional attitude. While we were deciding on cream buns, he abruptly walked away, put up a “Back in 10 minutes” sign, and went to the kitchen, even though there were multiple customers (three separate groups) clearly waiting to be served. From where I stood, I saw him in the back packaging jams, fully aware people were still waiting. When he finally returned, instead of acknowledging or helping customers right away, he continued prioritizing putting away jars under the counter, all while giving off an unfriendly demeanor. He never apologized or thanked anyone for their patience. The lack of courtesy and disregard for customers was shocking. I would never return here nor recommend this place to anyone. There was no mention of loyalty or appreciation for customers whatsoever. I’ve noticed many negative reviews about this place, and almost all point to the same issue: poor customer service from a male staff member (likely the same person based on the descriptions). Since nothing seems to have changed despite repeated complaints, it feels like this place truly does deserve a 1-star review.

The egg salad sandwich is as close as you're going to get in Toronto to the real thing from Japan. It's so good! They're so fluffy and soft. I love the addition of the egg in the middle. I also really enjoy the cream buns. My fave is the milk cream, but I like them all. The bread is sweet, and the filling is generous. Please open a location somewhere between here and Mississauga on the west side. I'd be so happy!

I was hoping to try the mango but as I got there late in the day it had already sold out. I grabbed the chocolate and red bean which were labelled as poplar flavors, both were great, personally preferred the red bean. Also got a a hojicha latte which was alright. The fortune stand is a cute addition to the vibe. The only point of concern is there was only staff member manning the cash and making the drinks so if you come in at a bad time when someone has just ordered a few drinks you’ll have to wait a while to get your order

This charming Japanese cafe offers a delightful selection of cream buns, drinks, smoothies, and more. A lovely touch was their generous sample of the custard cream bun, which turned out to be a full bun that we shared. Slightly chilled, the bun was wonderfully soft, melting in the mouth, with a custard filling that was creamy, smooth, and perfectly balanced—not too sweet. We ordered the Houjicha Black Sesame Latte and the Matcha Smoothie, and while we waited, we enjoyed the cafe’s unique fortune-telling experience. By shaking a box and drawing a numbered stick, we could read our fortunes—a fun, authentic touch that added to the ambiance. The barista even came out from behind the booth to hand us our drinks, which was a kind and personal gesture. Both the latte and smoothie were delicious. I’ll definitely be back for more!
