"In Berlin’s postwar years, Haus am Waldsee, founded in 1946, was one of the hottest spots in which to see contemporary art shows. These days its Steglitz-Zehlendorf location might be a bit out of the way but the programming is spot on: the Haus mounts impressive exhibitions along with concerts, performance and sound art."

If you’re looking to avoid the tourist crowds, this charming “Haus” makes for a perfect 2–3 hour escape. Bring a book or your laptop—you can relax by the lake or settle in at the cozy café. While there’s an admission fee for the exhibition, the garden and café are free to enjoy.

This place is so quiet and elegant. A great place to pause and enjoy food and drinks from the coffee shop.

A true hidden gem of the west. Fantastic sculpture garden (recently renovated) with a surprisingly advanced cafe (you don't need to buy a ticket to use the garden or the cafe). Come here to chill, eat a home-made cake, read a book and visit an occasional exhibition.

A very beautiful house with a calm nature. There are temporary galleries in the house now and then. But the current gallery was not so interesting in my opinion.

Excelente Museum related to art and architecture in two levels. Very close to the metro station of U3 Krumme Lanke. Don’t miss the garden in the backyard where you will also find sculptures among the trees on your way to the lake. They also have a nice café.

Haus am Waldsee is a gallery, café and sculpture garden in tranquil and leafy Berlin’s southwest. The area close to Grunewald forest is dotted with early 1910-1930 villas, some of which were designed by Walter Gropius and Mies van der Rohe. You can access the café and beautifully landscaped sculpture garden without a ticket. They have a large selection of baked goods and drinks and service is very friendly and considerate.
