Tranquility Breeds Creativity on the Quaint Island of Menorca

"Hauser & Wirth is an art gallery located on Illa del Rei in Mahón harbor, Menorca. It opened in 2021 and features works from artists such as Rashid Johnson, Louise Bourgeois, and Joan Miró. The gallery also has a perennial garden designed by Piet Oudolf."

Lovely gallery, very interesting exhibition the day we went. Such a nice experience to go on the boat and see the island. The old naval hospital is really interesting. If you can, have lunch in the olive grove at the restaurant. It's such a lovely Mediterranean experience (be warned though, it can be very hot). Our food was delicious. So was the beer!

The Hauser & Wirth on Illa dei Rei is worth an excursion. However, rather due to its beautiful old mansions & awesome gardens. Regarding the Art exposition we were a bit disappointed; The Rottenberg exposition with its light installations did not convince us, leaving an old-fashioned, little inspiring impression whereas we more enjoyed the creative portraits by Sherman. Our mixed impressions regard above all the 'Cantina' garden restaurant. The process with getting a table was rather bizarre and made us laugh, the service was very improvised and food & drinks of limited quality in opposition to the exaggerated pricing. Even though the ambiente positively reminded us of club 55 in Saint Tropez, the whole organization is much too much mass tourism driven and in our view urgently needs a quality & service uplift in order to fullfill H&W quality aspirations.

Illa del Rei is a magical place. The work done by the volunteers is truly impressive. We visited the island on Sunday and joined the 9:20 AM guided tour around the island and the hospital — it was an amazing experience. A special thanks to Beverly for sharing the story and fascinating facts about the island with us. The garden and the gallery are beautiful and incredibly picturesque. There's also a lovely bar/restaurant where you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

After a few beach days it’s nice do do something different with the family. For 30 euros you get a short and comfortable trip on the ferry to the island for a family with two kids. On the island you can stoll through the gardens and see various small art exibitions. We also enjoyed lunch in Cantina. We enjoyed our visit and combined it with a visit to Mahon.

I thought it would be nice but I didn’t realise just how nice this is. Beautiful buildings. Excellent art exhibitions particularly the Cindy Sherman and a wonderful lunch.

Good food and drink. Fabulous setting on the island. Good gallery of art. Hospital tour was 90 minutes and historically interesting but personally deeply depressing. Wished I'd just had a walk about and not paid for tour. All in great day out as you have to take the boat to get there. Went mid October and it was lovely weather. Probably crushing heat in mid summer.

A beautiful gallery located on the island of Illa del Rey. They renovated a hospital island and embellished it by creating gardens. Only need to pay 10 euros for the shuttle boat fee, but it is definitely worth it. The gallery has a great blend with the view of the Mediterranean Sea.

One really lovely place just 10 min away from Mahon by boat. Very interesting 2 small galleries and nice outside spaces. The buling with the old hospital is very intense as well. There is a restaurant with amazing food and service. The trip to this little island was worth it
