Yelp
Northern Va is mostly a bleak desert for hot dog lovers. Mostly, if you can find a dog, it's an add on option at most eateries. So, I was happy to find a small, family run spot built around the love of hot dogs. A pleasant thirty minute drive through quaint Arlington neighborhoods made the trip enjoyable. Haute Dogs is a small place, situated in a tiny plaza but, offers plenty of seating, inside and outside, for the venue. It feels homey. The sole, young lady at the counter was on the quiet side but, she was helpful when you need help, pleasant, and efficient.
And now, the food. We tried two hot dog offerings, my wife chose to customize with her standard favorites, (plenty of sides options), and I chose the chillipeño dog. The dogs had a satisfying "snap!" On the bite, all beef, and tasty. I usually shy away from a New England style bun, but this was an expeption. My wife and I concur that we liked the dogs but, prefer a bit more circumference. However, the slimmer dog allowed for accommodating the toppings quite comfortably in the bun. The onion rings were very satisfying, hot just out of the frier and crisp. Even better, you could take several bites without pulling out the entire onion with each bite. Superior! They offer a variety of refreshments that include beer and fresh made milk shakes. Dogs only make up a third of the menu, and the offerings are tempting. Our consensus is; We'll definitely be returning. I plan to eat my way through the entire menu.
I read some of the negative reviews, and almost didn't visit. If you're a bitter, impatient, or otherwise negative person, just stay home.
