Its hard to rate this hotel because there were so many positives but the few negatives were big ones! Let's start with the text message confirming our arrival. I thought this was such a sweet touch and when I replied saying this, they messaged me back again with another sweet message. Personal touches like this I REALLY love. Good start so far, right?
Ok SO this hotel is totally unassuming from the outside but lovely once you walk into the lobby. Parking in the front fills up quickly but plenty in the back so no issues there. We were greeted promptly however, our room wasn't ready yet as they were full from the previous night. They gave deets on where the bar was and that we could enjoy the area while we waited.
Dmytri(?) was the first to greet us, took our order and we just sat and people watched. Boy was it busy! You'd never know Covid was on and poppin' in Florida with the throngs of people without masks and disregarding the multiple signs posted. Alas, everyone seemed to be having a great time so I guess it's all good. Dmytri was on top of it ALL. Catering to is customers, making sure orders were right and mixing good drinks. Made the most perfect caipirinha outside of Brazil with Leblon cachaca no less (scored major points with me for that one!)
We ordered the fish dip, nachos carnitas and the avocado salad - way too much food as the portions were pretty big. The avocado salad was very bland and nothing to write home about but it did the trick. I checked back in after 4 pm (official check-in time) because I still had not been notified as to whether the room was ready, unfortunately, it was not. We ended up waiting another 15 minutes and finally went up the double staircase to our room (213) which was smack dead in the middle.
From first glance, it's a lovely room however, the floor was dirty. I mean really dirty. My wife walked around barefoot for only a few and her feet were gross! (See photo). Beyond that, the sheets were not tucked under the mattress and the remote was missing from the back where the batteries are secured. Very very odd, to me at least. Most concerning to me was the floor. With Covid-19 going on, hotels need to go the extra mile to ensure cleanliness because this is where people are actually sleeping so for the floor to be as dirty as it was, was very unpleasant to me.
Since the text messaging system seemed to work, I utilized it to let them know of the minor complaints I had with regards to the room. A couple of hours later, when I went to inquire with the front desk as to why I have not received a response, they let me know they had been trying to call the room. Turns out, either the phone isn't working or the ringer was off. Never figured out which it was because when I tried to call our room again, it still did not ring. In either event, the gentleman at the front desk was apologetic and comped us a drink and meal for our troubles which was great.
There is this weird and constant dampness in the room. If you turn up the air conditioning, it's damp but cold so we kept it at 72°. BUT, if you go into the lobby, it's freezing. Quite a weird disparity.
The pool area is lovely! Good shading, lots of seating and great water temperature. The concierge Nick, was super helpful bringing fresh towels and popsicles on those super steamy days. Just an all around pleasant guy there to make your experience better!
On our third day, it rained something awful and I kept hearing water dripping. Turns out there must've been some kind of patch work done to the roof because the next day, I noticed two cracks in the ceiling. We called down to the front desk and Anette moved us promptly to a neighboring room - 214. This room seemed slightly larger and was well situated like the other room so no complaints. The bathroom had a large shower which i preferred to the tub/shower combo.
The gym is small but well equipped- all the cardio machines seemed brand new which was great but there was only one mat to use for stretching which was odd.
Lastly, the music booms from 9:30/10 am until 11 at night. Even though rooms seem well insulated, it's still very loud. We found it more disturbing in 214 vs. 213. If you are early to bed or a light sleeper, get a room facing the street with a view of the ocean. Then again, the constant traffic on such a busy road might not be much better.
All in all, it was cool I guess. Good guests, drinks and overall atmosphere but I doubt we would return.
