"Local-style comfort food gets the portions it deserves here, filling the soul and the stomach. Massive pancakes, kalua pork hash, and an all-day Big Island Breakfast Menu are the main draws. Seafood eaters shouldn't miss the poke bowl (pronounced POH-keh ): cubed raw fish seasoned any way you wish."

Was underwhelming. I guess I expected more for a 4.5 star restaurant. Decent but blah if that makes sense. Waitress asked for orders to be repeated multiple times to confirm then food came out wrong and she argued it was correct... never refilled drinks without us having to chase someone down. Not the worst just not worth the hype.

Google
Highly recommend coming here. Best local food in the Big Island 🌸🌸🌸 Great service, food came out lightning quick. Portions were ginormous! Flavors were 🔥🔥🔥 Our ohana recommends everything, but for me, the poke bowls were 5-🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼😎

Google
Omg, the Korean fried chicken was so damn yummy!! I also had the chicken katsu - the chicken and gravy tasted super delicious! The waiters helped us to pack our food quickly since we had an appointment nearby. They served our food quickly. Wasn’t very crowded when we went around 5pm - got a seat immediately.

Google
Awesome stop for some Hawaiian favorites and great fusion offerings. We had the kalua nachos for starters. Awesome. I had the kalua pork with cabbage and it did not disappoint. My wife had the special of the day which combined pork belly, ancho pork and a spicy pork with peas. Everything was amazingly good and the price was great for the quality of food. Go hungry because they are going to feed you!!! Portions are very big. Great stop, don’t miss it!

Google
Went for breakfast and got the Mok-a-saurus loco moco and one haupia pancake. The staff were nice, portions were large, and everything was tasty. Went back for dinner to do take out and got a mixed ate with the boneless Korean chicken and Kalbi ribs for an extra charge. Hate to say that the Kalbi wasn’t worth it. Too chewy. The Mac salad was really good! Although that wasn’t the best would still highly recommend this place!

Google
If you are visiting Hilo, you absolutely have to stop in for breakfast. The portions are enormous. Not only that, the food is delicious. If you can, go 15 minutes before they open and wait on the benches outside. This helps to ensure that you get a seat because this place fills up fast. Regardless of the wait, if you've never been here before, it is well worth it.

Google
We went in on Memorial Day with a party of 10. The wait was 50 minutes but it was so worth it. I’ve heard all about the Loco Moco that they have here and everything I had been told was right. The food was so good. The staff was attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is that of a cafe style restaurant. If you are on the fence about going, just do it. You’ll be happy you got it.

Google
The food was super ono!! I had the chicken cutlet loco moco, and it was A-mazing! My wife had the prime rib loco moco, and that was just as delicious! Our daughter had the lechon plate, and that was tasty and crunchy! Our son had the steak and eggs, and the medium rare filet was very tasty and tender! Everything was awesome. My only low ranking was due to the take out order taking a lot longer than the 20 minutes they told my wife. But, in their defense, it was lunch hour on a Sunday and they were extremely busy. The place is nice. But, the other small concern I had was how warm it was in their diner. Those items were the only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars overall.

Yelp
Food has always been great and so has the service. Thanks for great hospitality the staff is amazing and friendly

Yelp
We had the Friday night special Hawaiian plate. The food was delicious with all the Hawaiian favorites like Kalua Pork, Lau Lau, ahi poke, soup, a salmon salad etc.Service was fantastic and our server was the best. A definitely must visit restaurant if you are in Hilo area.

Yelp
Everything!!! Come hungry ...leave momona (full belly)! They have a collective amount of dishes, but the one I come for is the Korean plate. It never disappoints.

Yelp
Hawaiian Style Cafe was recommended for us while visiting Hilo! We were not disappointed. The entire family loved our meal. The portions were big, restaurant was clean and the staff was amazing. Raelyn was our waitress and was so friendly, we enjoyed our conversations with her. I would like to go back again, as other dishes on the menu also looked amazing.

Yelp
Ok so when we arrived there was definitely a wait! Once you walk in, you'll see a dessert filled show case! We waited for about 20 minutes and were sat in a comfy booth. The menu has a lot of different choices but I went with the special! It was so good, it came with sausage, spam, bacon, eggs, and and English muffin! My partner ordered the pork nachos and I couldn't believe the flavor in my mouth. The one thing that wasn't great was the margaritas... watered down, doesn't taste like anything... first they gave us blended when we notated on the rocks. The service was just ok, nothing special. You come here for the food! They have everything from breakfast, numerous types of loco mocos, burgers, stews and etc... This was one of the more tastier restaurants than many other other places we visited.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! Very ono! We were a party of 6. Service was slow, but they were short staffed. We didn't mind the wait, because we were on island time. All of our food was very yummy. The Korean plate was so good. Loco Moco was great too. Hapuia pancakes are not to be missed. They are HUGE!

Yelp
Whenever I hop over to Hilo there is always a stop at Hawaiian Style Cafe! Food portions are generous. Prices are more than fair. Parking is easy and free. The only drawback is everyone and their uncle knows how good this place is so... more than likely there will be a wait. Go on the off times and the wait will be shorter. Because its so popular, service may suffer a little. Everyone friendly though! This place makes a mean locomoco. In fact, there are a few versions to choose from. Whichever one you might choose... be prepared to take leftovers. I also like the sausage breakfast, even at lunch. Today, feeling my phatness, hahah, I opted for the Korean chicken over green salad. Perfectly choice. Hawaiian Style Cafe has a sister restaurant on the Kona side of the island but... its not Hilo so...!?!

Yelp
We were ready for some grub but not that hungry but this place was recommended, of course we had to go and thank goodness we weren't hungry because the wait was between 45 minutes to an hour. The menu was one double sided page filled with Loco Mocos and local favorites. I saw Lechon (fried pork belly) as one of the offerings so I had to order that. My partner in crime ordered fried Saimin (wheat noodles) which in opinion is a version of "Pancit" ( Filipino noodle dish). The Lechon came with Mac and cheese and two scoops of steamed rice. The Lechon was fried pork belly sliced with onions and tomatoes on a bed of Patis (fish sauce). The fried Saimin included some fried gyoza, fish cakes and veggies. The portions were good for two at a good price! The ambiance is a sense of family. You can see all types of families, a family of three all the way to a family of six plus at the restaurant. It's worth a visit and I will have to try the Loco Mocos for sure.

Yelp
We went for lunch and started out with putting ourselves down on their Yelp Waitlist. There were four parties in front of us and in under 30 minutes, we got a table. This was so efficient. Our order came out quite fast. We had the hamburger steak and beef stew. What was surprising was the Mac Salad. It tastes just like how my family makes it minus one ingredient. Beef stew was delicious, tender, and similar to how my mom makes it. The hamburger steak was well done with a nice char. Some parts of it was a bit chewy though. Overall, the meal was great, service was fast and staff were friendly and accommodating. Inside and outside were clean and the music playing was great to hear.

Yelp
Came here on a recommendation of a friend's! This Hawaiian food spot truly delivers when it comes to flavor. The boneless short ribs were absolutely incredible. Perfect smoky-sweet taste and easy to eat. No bones! We also decided to venture out and try their haupia pancakes. Easily one of the best things I've ever had for brunch. They were so fluffy and had just the right amount of sweetness. It does get really busy, especially during peak hours, so the service can be a bit slow. Also, the air conditioning struggles to keep up with the crowd and the heat outside, so it can get a little warm inside. But honestly, the food is worth it. Just be prepared to wait a bit and maybe dress light.

Yelp
Love this place! I would drive two hours to just get these pancakes. Everything we ordered was delicious and service was excellent!

Yelp
My favorite meal in all of Hawaii - this place was INCREDIBLE. The sheer VOLUME of food you receive is unbelievable - it's a literal mountain of Hawaiian goodness. We could not stop nibbling at literally everything on the Saimin plate - those little dumplings were ever so crunchy and savory, the korean fried chicken was perfectly crispy, the steak ideally tender, and those noodles just kept on giving. The Bento bowl was like ramen without the broth - and gave a sample of most everything you could ever want to try at an authentic Hawaiian eatery - spam, Katsu, raw tuna, and so much more. I walked out of here having felt like I had an EXPERIENCE - not just a meal. Service was solid as well, we were well attended to and everything just clicked. Back here in a hearbeat next time I am in Hawaii - that's for certain.

Yelp
We found out about this restaurant on YouTube. It was so good we tried the original location too. Negatives: -none Positives: -prices/value, the amount of food they give you is well worth the price and more. Everything on the big island is bigger. Definitely the Texas of the islands. -taste, everything we got was good. The item worth mentioning the most was the galbi. Definitely one of the best I've had. My wife loved it so much we demanded we get it again for our last day on the big island. -service, service was exceptionally friendly. We definitely felt the aloha spirit. Overall 5/5 Thank you for providing us with an amazing experience and exceptional food.

Yelp
The food was delicious, from pancakes to locomoco this was a great breakfast. Debbie was fantastic as our server and made the locomoco gluten free for our Celiac kid.

Yelp
Almost always a wait. Wednesday morning/afternoon we waited about 15 min. Lots of Hawaiian style options. Hence the name. Ha It's good. Meats are delicious. Scrambled eggs tasted like they came from a carton. Just order sunny side up. Pancakes are ono!! Outside patio is shaded and nice.
google avatar

Joanne J.

Yelp
First off, we greeted with a sweet, genuine welcome. Good efficient service. Pancakes were the size of a steering wheel. Our food was good. They have a nice patio in front. Clean bathrooms.

Yelp
Coming here always hits the spot. We really appreciate the hospitality. There is a line that usually forms most people grab a menu and choose out what they want so as soon as they sit at the table, they put that order in and get their food a lot quicker. Of course, if you're a local, you already know what you like so it's nice opportunity to talk story with family while you wait. Love all the servers and we love guy!
google avatar

Yelp
Outside seating with covering Loved the luau stew so yummy with white rice. Oriental dressing on the salad also yummy. Mixed plates have great choices of meats. Would definitely come back again.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is always delicious and staff are friendly. We usually try to get there before it opens so we don't have to wait in line too long.

Yelp
Overall, I thought this place was good. I really liked the large menu and big portions. We arrived on a weekday and the place was half empty, but we still ended up waiting for a bit before we were seated. I know the Haupia Pancakes are the signature dish, so I ordered those. The pancakes were good...the pancakes themselves were very plain and unimpressive, but the haupia sauce was delicious. I definitely left very full and satisfied. The service was very friendly and warm. The restaurant is clean and perfect for medium sized groups. I'd probably come back to try some of the other offerings.
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
Decent, doesn't quite live up to the hype. Lots of people waiting outside when we arrived but tables seem to turn quickly. Once we got seated, the ordering process was quick and our food came out fast. The menu made it seem like the portions are HUGE and we were debating on getting an entree + 1 side (need to order $3.95 minimum extra is sharing). When the food came out, we were a little confused because the portions were just very... regular-sized... not huge at all. The French toast was maybe even smaller than average I've seen at other restaurants. Doesn't come with a few pieces of fruit or anything with the plate, just 4 pieces of Hawaiian sweet bread for the French toast. It was delicious though! The "little breakfast" we got was indeed very little, which is a good option if you're not hungry. In my head I was thinking "little" for a place that keeps emphasizing their "huge portions" would equate to regular size hahaha - guess not! The passion iced tea was oddly disappointing. Our server did let me know it was unsweetened when ordering, but it really barely had any flavor. Didn't really taste like tea, more like flavored water with a light hint of passion fruit.

Yelp
Good tasting food, great service and huuuge portions! Instead of toast with your breakfast, choose the pancakes. You get 2 monster sized pancakes for no extra charge.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday at 6:30 PM with my cousin. Our wait time was about five minutes. Parking was easy to find. Firstly, portion sizes are HUGE here. My cousin and I shared one platter, the Mok-a-saurus, and a side of macaroni salad. The Mok-a-saurus consists of four types of protein: hamburger meat, chicken katsu, kahlua pork, and spam (plus the two eggs on top). The chicken katsu was our favorite meat; it was crispy, well-flavored, and cooked just right such that it was not dry. Our second favorite meat was the kahlua pork. Third was the spam. The hamburger patty was dry and burnt in some places, so we did not finish it. Gravy was good. The macaroni salad was interesting in that it also had tuna, potatoes, and peas. Overall it was pretty good and tasted like a mix of Mac salad and tuna salad. In conclusion, I would recommend checking out this place. We will probably come back again for dinner because it has such generous portions and has a large variety of other items to try.

Yelp
I love this place. It takes credit card and reservations for over 8 people here. The lechon was okay, there wasn't enough flavors for me. it was cut in nice small bites. The Kalbi beef was not as good as imagine but still yummy. The fried saimen didn't have as much fillings as the other location. I don't want to sound like it is bad because I love the location and food. The service was awesome too. See my photos
google avatar

Jessi Lynne B.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I've been here and decided to try something different. Went with their specialty as it said on the menu, home of the original kalua hash and eggs. Opted for hashbrowns and pancakes. I was not expecting two huge pancakes, a little dense for my preference but nothing whipped butter and syrup can't fix. But totally worth saving for a second meal they were so enormous! Kalua hash was just ok for me, mostly potatoes but I was most impressed with the sausage ring. It was so tasty! I definitely recommend that! Might have to stick with my fave loco mocos because I love my brown gravy. They were busy but the restaurant is spacious with a lot of seats. I recommend checking the live wait times on Yelp as you can add your name to the waitlist ahead of time if they're busy otherwise just walk in when you get there and add your name. Definitely stop in at this local fave spot! All the workers are friendly too.

Yelp
This was the first restaurant we dined at during our trip. The wait to get seated was about 20-30 minutes. The food prices were reasonable! However we waited 30-40 minutes for our food. It was a bit strange that our waitress would carry our meal out with another tables meal and bring our food over to their table before setting it down at our table. I'm not sure how sanitary that is. I ended up getting the Chicken cutlet Loco Moco - which I felt was really salty. I'm sure it was the combination between the breading on the chicken and the gravy. My kids loved the French toast and Belgium waffle - they devoured it. My husband got the regular loco moco which he also liked. The fried rice was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent breakfast! We tried bfast specials w 2 eggs laulau hash, hashbrowns , side of waffle w haupia and chicken katsu(crispy cutlet) moco loco. The waffle was amazing and the haupia coconut custard topping is hands down the best I've ever had. A real bargain compared to other places and absolutely deeelish!! Gayle was our wonderful server, patient kind and efficient. We arrived early on a Sunday -around 9am- and did not even wait 5 minutes to be seated. Lots of parking in lot or on streets. Aloha spirit!

Yelp
Great food? Yes! Great service? Yes! And awesome portion? Most def. I don't think I can find another place that serves pancakes the size of your face for under 20! And tastes delicious and fluffy! Between the ramen place across the plaza and this place, Hawaiian style cafe is hands down the winner imo. Friendly staff, great price and awesome service. A must try for me.
google avatar

Yelp
First stop in Hilo, had to check out this local cafe for some Loco Moco! When we arrived, there was a waitlist, but we only waited about five minutes before being seated. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, making us feel welcome right away. While the ambiance was nothing special, the food more than made up for it. We ordered the Mocoasaurus and the Mento Bento, both of which were delicious. The portions were huge, definitely enough for leftovers! Plus, the prices were reasonable, making it a great spot for a satisfying meal. I have also seen some people order the Ahi Nachos which I would like to try next time.
google avatar

Lyle O.

Yelp
Overall I think Hawaiian Style Cafe was a good choice for us to eat brunch. There was a little but of a wait but I signed in on their check-in tablet and 20 minutes later we were seated. The portions are large so be aware of this when ordering. We ordered the Haupia pancakes and BLT w/fries. Prices were fair and the service was good. The interior decor was good, tables clean so no complaints from me.

Yelp
There's a reason this place always has groups of people outside waiting for a table! Hilo's breakfast game is no joke and Hawaiian Style Cafe is one of the best. Location is great; it's a few minutes away from the airport in the Manono Street Marketplace and within a block of some of the best places to grab gifts and omiyage after (big island candies, atebara chips, lani's island snack shop). I usually come here either after landing in Hilo or before heading to the airport! The marketplace also has its own parking lot so parking isn't an issue. Service is great; the servers and staff are all very pleasant and attentive, often checking to refill drinks during the meal. Came in at 8am and was fortunate enough to get a table without a wait. Their breakfast plates come with rice or hash browns, and either a pancake, Belgian waffle, or toast. I ordered the Kalua Hash and Eggs, which is one of their most popular items (for good reason). Everything tasted delicious and also the portions are very large so you're often able to take leftovers home for another meal. Sometimes when I come for lunch, I'll order a combination meal so I can have leftovers for dinner. Costs are pretty standard, averaging around $15-$20 per dish but the portion sizes make it very much worth the cost. Whenever I have friends visiting Hilo, this place is usually one of the first I will recommend they visit as there's enough items on the menu that there's something for everyone!
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
One of the best chicken fried steaks we've had! Haupia pancakes are huge and delicious. We came with our family and everyone's food was delicious. Large portions. Friendly service. This is obviously a popular local spot. Definitely adding this to our rotation when we are on big island.
google avatar

Earl B.

Yelp
Hawaiian Style Cafe is the best value in Hilo. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all good. Breakfast can get super busy but worth the wait. Can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Christopher J.

Yelp
The food was so good! My friend had just ran a marathon and the portions were great. Will definitely return. Wish we came here yesterday. Raynette had the best service, very attentive and helpful with the recommendations. Some guest was also very nice, she literally gave us a gift card for our meal.
google avatar

Art C.

Yelp
Again... the food here is so very good. I could've ordered the entire menu (I was stopped, thankfully, from doing that given the size of the entrees). Anywho, a real casual-style stunner here. Great eats... We had the garlic chicken and the Hawaiian plate. Both excellent. Check out the pics- the food quality literally jumps off the screen. The poke, lau lau (my personal fav), and kalua pig all stood out for us. This is another must if you're on the island. Not to be missed...
google avatar

Yelp
Breakfast review. 1) location Easy access from Main Street, but parking seems to be limited, so go early. 2) food Excellent 3) $ value Yes, just do it. 4) service Excellent. Yes, recommended.

Yelp
When in a new place do as the Yelpers!! So we wanted a good place for breakfast, we looked on yelp and found this place. It's just like the name says, a...Hawaiian Style Cafe. It's a fairly good sized place and very popular. We sat by the door and saw a steady stream of people coming in. Occasionally they had a short wait and names were being called. The menu is fairly complete with all the Hawaiian favorites and there is a large screen TV on the wall near the Host stand, that ran a continuous loop od the specials for the day and desserts Our waiter was Debbie, but the staff helped one another out, so we had several people assisting us. The teamwork is good here. That being said, the service was okay - but not what I would consider excellent. There were several missed opportunities - my toast was forgotten and delivered five minutes after my meal came. My wife's soda was removed to get a refill and never came back. We had to ask for it. So the service is okay. The restaurant itself was very clean and well taken care of. The staff was very friendly. There was someone at the door at all times greeting and seating the guests. The restroom was clean and obviously attended to. I had the seared Ahi & Scrambled Eggs. The Ahi was seared to perfection and very flavorful. The scrambled eggs and hashbrowns were very good too. The toast was good as well. The problem with the food was that it was barely warm. My wife had the Boneless Korean Chicken with white rice and a salad. The chicken was very flavorful and crunchy, the rice was good as well. Unfortunately, her food was about the same temperature as mine. The portion sizes are very generous. The prices are reasonable (It's Hawaii). So Overall it was okay. If I lived here on the Island, I would return. But we're on here in Hilo for five days, and don't plan on visiting any restaurant more than once.

Yelp
My husband, who said he "wasn't that hungry" agreed to share a plate with me, so I ordered the Mok-a-Sauras. Of course, that's a massive platter of deliciousness with brown gravy happiness to top it off! And it revived my hubby's appetite too. We managed to down the whole ono thing. I really enjoyed all the different proteins, from crispy chicken to salty Spam. And fried rice with little bits of char siu. Service was spectacular. Our waitress was friendly and came back frequently to check in. The seating is unusual - like a railroad apartment - it goes from the host stand straight back (with the kitchen to the left) before opening up. This gives people a little more privacy since you can't see other people after being seated unless you're farther back. Love this place, and definitely heading back next time we're in Hilo. Because of brown gravy and friendly wait staff!
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
Come here if you are hungry! I have never seen such huge portions. The poke nachos alone were so filling as an appetizer. However, you don't want to miss out on trying these other classic Hawaiian dishes. everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and wished we had more room in our stomachs. There is a waitlist and we waited about 20 minutes for a party of four during dinner time however, this gives you plenty of time to look over the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Hawaiian Style Cafe-Hilo, was recommended by coworker but I didn't have a chance to check it out, til this recent visit, it was on my list to try. So happy we finally did and loved it too! Warning, portions are HUGE, be prepared for kanak attack, Hawaiian Style Cafe does make sure you are well fed before you leave the restaurant, hehe. Mahalo! The lines were long, we put our names on the Yelp list and waited about 20 minutes, popular place! Everyone was observed sitting, chatting, and waiting patiently for a table. There are indoor and outdoor dining. Great for family dining and huge parties out in Hilo, a Hawaiian style cafe feel here! Looking at the menu while we waited for our table, I went with the loco moco plate as it has everything on that plate, I love the different varieties of Loco Moco plate. Hawaiian Style, chicken cutlet, Da Big Mok, Dat Tita Mok, & Mok-A-Saurus. hehe.. I went with the Mok-A-Sauraurus ( fried rice topped with spam, chicken cutle, kalua pork, hamburger patty, two eggs & gravy) All for $18.95. Wow! all this sounds great in a moco. The other half and I enjoyed this plate & was huge portions for 2, we pack the leftovers for when we get hungry at the hotel. The haupia pancakes was OMG- WOW! so moist and so good, I really enjoyed it, so much better than a spot that does pancakes here on the windward side. The pancakes are huge and this haupia one of their popular item. Our waitress and the service received was great, despite how busy this cafe gets. All in all, the other half and I loved our first time experience here and plan to be back when in Hilo again, but next time we will try out the lunch menu. We will be back-Recommend!

Yelp
Go hungry. Delish food with very generous and shareable portions. Super attentive staff and good location. Bring a friend and eat outside if you can. There will likely be a wait... it's that good, and it is worth it.
google avatar

Tung D.

Yelp
We had the bento and the poki bowls, and thought they were just okay. Not anything different from anywhere else in Hawaii. Way too much foods and a bit overpriced. We couldn't finish at all and got tired of the foods.
google avatar

Rose S.

Yelp
Food was great! Friendly service from staff. Ordered take out and everything from ordering to pick up was stress free.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Very rarely would I rate 5 stars for a one time visit, but this one definitely deserved it. Wait times were about 20-25 minutes walk-in. The hostess was really nice, as was all the staff. Outdoor seating was lovely, great cross breeze, clean tables, etc. Loco moco- yum (huge portions), but the extra gravy was necessary. Lamb ribs-a bit chewy, but amazingly seasoned. Sweet bread French toast - amazing, great texture and flavor. Hash-browns were huge and crispy. Passion fruit iced tea was good, but was overshadowed by the rest of the awesome food. All portion sizes were HUGE. Everyone was very happy with their food, we would come back if we weren't leaving the area tomorrow.

Yelp
I went to Hawaiian Style cafe to enjoy another cup of good diner coffee. The last time, I really enjoyed their coffee and had a pretty good breakfast. This time we went early, right as they opened. I was looking forward to having a good loco moco as I have enjoyed in the past in Hilo. First, I got their coffee and it was still good. 3 cups later.. hahahaha - I was enjoying the buzz when my loco moco came. This one had the dark gravy along with onions and hamburger and eggs. It looked pretty decent and quite large. That's when it all went bad. I tasted the gravy and while it looked good, there was no taste. I mean it just had nothing..... I tasted the rice which was ok, and together it wasn't just bland - I mean it had no taste to mention. I thought it was me, so I had my wife taste it and she said it had no taste either. OK. Not me. Then I tried the hamburger and it too was tasteless. I tried salt, shoyu, whatever..... But this was a lousy tasting loco moco. I usually eat anything but this time it wasn't worth my time or money to even finish. My wife mentioned that the loco moco had no taste and the waitress said "we don't put salt in the food because of salt sensitive people". What? So they don't salt/season/put taste in their food? If this is true then why is their home made sausage so good and salty? OK back to the loco moco. I just gave up trying to make it taste good. In a final attempt to say something, I mentioned that the loco loco was really not good and was tasteless when we had a chance to say something. Again, I was told they don't put salt and it was left like that. I told the waitress that they don't have to take it off the bill (she looked like she didn't want to anyway) and I left my loco moco basically uneaten. Only one other time did I eat completely tasteless food and it was a side order at a sushi restaurant. I don't know how you can be a restaurant and make tasteless food. I mean, it's not even a "bad taste" - it's just tasteless. I give two stars because their sausage is good and their coffee is good. But this was the worst loco moco in all my years of eating local loco. I grew up in Hilo, so that's a long time. I immediately went to fix this lousy breakfast and headed straight to K's drive in where they make a delicious loco moco, mac salad, gravy burger and fried rice.

Yelp
Restaurant was closed due to no staff. When we pulled up 3 other families parked as well. We are here from Texas and had heard about your restaurant. I am so very disappointed that you were closed.

Yelp
Got here around 620pm on a Thursday night and there was already a wait. They told us 15-20 minutes and we were indeed seated in ~15 mins. During our wait, we strolled through the plaza (mostly everything is closed). I got the Hawaiian loco moco with over easy eggs on the side. Being pregnant, I can't over stuff myself or have to suffer the consequences of being overly full, bloated and reflux. I stopped half way. It was the perfect midnight snack. Anyways, the beef was cooked perfectly with a little char, ask for extra gravy for your left overs! If I needed to make a critique, I say it needed a little salt, but I prefer not enough salt than too much!!! My partner had the mauka/maki - also a great trio sampler. The shrimp was perfectly crisp and the short ribs, yum! (Yes I had a couple bites!).

Yelp
I visited during Merrie Monarch and was surprised to catch them at a small corner of Manono Marketplace! They have a classic Hawai'i style flavor in a diner to enjoy with friends and family alike - I visited for dinner during the time I went. I ended up getting the Moke-a-saurus, which was HUGE! I couldn't finish it but was able to save it for a late night meal later. Would definitely come back to try the rest of their menu! - Miguel Morales Photography

Yelp
Always nice as quick as they can service. Long long waits, but always worth it. Plan to wait. Sign in at kiosk right away, it's inside. Bathrooms are a one star. They have only two separate bathrooms for the crowds they serve. I don't think they are even looked at but to replace toilet paper. Could be worse, there could not be a restroom.
