The drive up to the Hawaiian Vanilla Company was a pretty picturesque and cool experience, up winding roads, one-laned bridges, pastures and fields on every side, rolling hills and views of the ocean driving down, so just getting to the Hawaiian Vanilla Company was an experience in itself.
Once we got to the building there was very limited parking out in front, so we parked on the side along the building and walked in. It was like walking into someone's house, very cozy and quaint on the outside and when you went indoors, it was pretty large.
We did not do the tour/lunch here which cost about $90/person because we were traveling without an agenda or time schedule and also didn't want to spend the money. We just spent about 20 minutes in the gift shop, which was filled with a lot of nice goods. I ended up buying a floral tea, which I plan on infusing some white wine with.
The shop catered to the the tour/lunch goers, which is totally understandable. Upon walking in, there was a counter with teas and drinks and I had to ask if it was for the tours only, which I was told it was, and I was also thanked for asking, because apparently, walk-ins like myself have tried to drink things only reserved for the tour people, so do not eat or drink anything that's set out if you are not in the tour, or ask first!
We did end up making it to The Vanillerie in Kona (see my review on The Vanillerie) and that was a pretty cool experience as well, as it was only $20 for the one-hour tour, and that's all we were interested in, a short one-hour tour with no lunch because it fit into our budget and our time availability.
