Lovely location and nice room overlooking the lake, however, for the price you pay you expect the staff to be a bit more welcoming and better trained. The lady who "greeted" us was very abrupt and seemed instantly annoyed and frustrated which put us off. Waiters were friendly but clearly had little to no training, which made it awkward at times. They tried to charge us again for our evening meal the following day even though we paid for it when we left the restaurant. Following on from other reviews, we did have a few flies in our room and floating around the restaurant area. Regarding the food, it was OK but definitely not worth the price. My partner had the steak which was tough and chewy. However, the coq au vin was nice. Despite this, we did enjoy the full english for our breakfast (although they did forget my hash brown). Overall, poor customer service, average food but great views.

My husband booked this hotel as a surprise for me , as i love retro style . I was blown away when we entered , so 1930’s/40’s . great flooring lovely lights , old baker light telephonethat actually work . ring the fashioned bell for service at the front desk . loved the oak staircase and the style of the banisters. even the old room bell service thing on the wall in the halls . we had a balcony room with and amazing view , overlooking the water . I was surprised to see a sitting room area too with a chesterfield sofa , so comfy . the bathroom and rooms were very clean despite another persons review . i will give her or him the fact it does take a while for the sink to drain mind . bed very comfy not hard at all , and apon stripping the bed on leaving i found the bedding to be very clean. could of done with a thicker duvet as i was cold i needed to use the throw as an extra blanket . loved the old wardrobe and suitcase on the top very oldie worldie . We ate the first night in the hotel which was a thursday. and our food was prepared by chef mark greenaway , who’s been on tv. he even let me have a photo with him so friendly thankyou , i had duck my husband had steak , both cooked to perfection . very novele cuisine. very expensive food for what it is but your paying for the location , and its beauty . Over £100 with drinks. i have to say that the bar tender that night was brilliant so friendly and helpful even gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly for congratulations on our wedding . second night we just had soup and a roll with a dessert and two drinks and that came to £64. most expensive soup i’ve had but it was delishious carrot and coriander . The second evening in the room was a nightmare there was a group of guests who were all going to a wedding being very loud right outside our room , because all drinking it actually woke me up then i couldn’t get back to sleep!!! but someone did come out and ask them to keep it down , so i’m assuming someone had complained. we give this venue 10/10 staffing 10/10 , location 10/10. noise/ sleep 8/10 but not hotels fault. well done everyone you all work very hard , thank you for a lovely stay .

This is a 3 star hotel that is authentically 1930's. The styling is excellent. The service was perfect. Food wonderful. They are some areas which would benefit from maintinance but with a period building this will be never ending. The location and atmosphere is perfect for those who enjoy calm and quiet. I loved our room with amazing views.

Amazing hotel with first class service by lovely happy staff. Our room had wonderful views of the lake and was furnished appropriately for the era of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable, we slept well and weren’t disturbed at all by the storm outside. The vegetarian/vegan breakfast was delicious served in the lovely dining room. Thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful and restful stay and hope to return soon. Thanks to everyone who made it so great.

The decor is absolutely period perfect and I presume authentic to the time, the bed was large and comfortable and the food was spot on. There were a few niggles with the room, from a maintenance standpoint. The bed requires the slats and supports securing, there were a couple of the wall lights not working and the shower, although hot and powerful, needs a shower curtain, as it soaks the floor when in use. But still 5 stars and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her birthday treat, the bar is now too high for next year.

I booked this hotel as a special treat for my partners birthday. It was more expensive than what I would normally pay for 1 night but we wanted to try the hotel as my great grandparents lived in Mardale pre the flooding |We arrived slightly early, were able to get parked in one of the bays, our room wasn't ready and I hadn't realised you could book an early check in. As it was a nice day we both got a drink from the bar and sat outside. The location and view of the water is stunning. We both enjoyed a drink then checked in |I'd booked the suite with balcony. On arrival into the room it really wasn't as we were expecting, the walls are painted very dark in colour, the bed was a wooden slatted bed (which we hate) it said king-size but we've definitely stayed in bigger. I loved the bathroom although glad I didn't need a shower as think id of struggled to climb in and out! The bathroom also smelt a bit damp and the shower constantly dripped.|The balcony view is stunning but it was wet underfoot despite being a dry day. Not sure if the drains weren't effective. The seats were not comfortable on the balcony and no table available for a drink. The partition separately the room next door provided no privacy. |The 'settee' in the lounge was tiny and did not feel sturdy to sit on. No fridge available in the room. And I did giggle as there is no door between the bedroom and lounge!|Saying all this we did enjoy our night and the evening meal in the restaurant was fabulous as was the breakfast.|The staff were all lovely.|Unfortunately I doubt we'll be back to this hotel.

Amazing nights stay at the Haweswater Hotel. It’s like going back in time or on the set of an Agatha Christie film. Everything is perfectly restored to the highest standard with vintage beautiful interiors. All rooms are different. Food and drink amazing. But the best thing is the view and the outdoor space - perfect tranquility.

Beautiful hotel in an absolutely stunning location! we stayed there 6 years ago, our first holiday together and returned this year for a few days "mini-moon" post wedding. This is one of my favourite places in the UK and it's somewhere I dream about returning to again and again!
