Really lovely stay at Haweswater. We stayed in the garden room, which I would recommend as it’s got its own private entrance through to the gardens. Huge bed, bath and a shower and a separate sitting room which was lovely and cosy. We ate at the hotel for one of the evenings we stayed. Couldn’t fault the food at all, it was absolutely gorgeous and the service was brilliant. Both guys on service were super friendly and attentive. It is expensive though, so great for a special meal but we decided to find a local pub for our second meal for something a bit more hearty (and cheaper) for our post hike dinner. Breakfast was great both mornings, lots of options and served really quickly. Really enjoyed the location, it’s super remote which we loved. Drove to the end of the road and hiked up the local wainwrights, great to have that on your doorstep. Overall, really lovely stay. My only 1 gripe was that our room wasn’t serviced during our stay. Apparently we needed to ask but for the price of the rooms I would have at least expected a top up of the coffee station and bed made etc.

An absolute delight! As always I'll start with the staff; everyone was very welcoming helpful and efficient. The hotel is situated just above Haweswater Reservoir and blends in beautifully with its surroundings. Inside its Art Deco decor is simply delightful, complete with artefacts and music from that elegant period. The room was spacious, well equipped, a comfortable bed and complimentary toiletries. The vegan full breakfast was good and I particularly appreciated the decent size coffee pot. In short this hotel is a real gem.

The hotel is set in a peaceful and truly special location – exactly the kind of ambience we were hoping for when we booked a quiet getaway. The style and atmosphere of the hotel are beautiful, and the rooms with views are especially stunning. We also loved that we could set off on a hike straight from the hotel – the views were absolutely breathtaking. However, a few aspects left us disappointed. The beds and mattresses are old and uncomfortable, which really took away from the overall experience, especially considering the nightly rate. At this price point, you expect restful sleep. The hotel and common areas appear generally clean, but the rooms could really use a deep clean. Since dogs are allowed, it feels even more important that the cleaning is thorough, and unfortunately, we didn’t get that impression. The bathroom also felt a little dated, with some mould visible in places. The restaurant itself has a lovely setting, but the portions are small and the prices quite high. That’s fine for a special dinner, but not quite what you want after a long 22km hike. Breakfast was enjoyable overall, but inconsistent from day to day, which may come down to different chefs. In the end, we had a peaceful break in a beautiful setting, which is what we wanted. Still, given the uncomfortable beds, we’d only consider returning if the price was right. The location is wonderful – it’s just a shame the basics weren’t up to the same standard.

Set in a peaceful and truly special location we loved this hotel. The art deco style and atmosphere of the hotel and rooms are beautiful, and the suite had a stunning view and large bath. Comfy bed, slept well. The restaurant has a lovely setting, a good menu and tasty food - yes quite pricey but as a remote location I accept associated costs need to be passed on. Breakfast was great. Would stay again and recommend.

My husband booked this hotel as a surprise for me , as i love retro style . I was blown away when we entered , so 1930’s/40’s . great flooring lovely lights , old baker light telephonethat actually work . ring the fashioned bell for service at the front desk . loved the oak staircase and the style of the banisters. even the old room bell service thing on the wall in the halls . we had a balcony room with and amazing view , overlooking the water . I was surprised to see a sitting room area too with a chesterfield sofa , so comfy . the bathroom and rooms were very clean despite another persons review . i will give her or him the fact it does take a while for the sink to drain mind . bed very comfy not hard at all , and apon stripping the bed on leaving i found the bedding to be very clean. could of done with a thicker duvet as i was cold i needed to use the throw as an extra blanket . loved the old wardrobe and suitcase on the top very oldie worldie . We ate the first night in the hotel which was a thursday. and our food was prepared by chef mark greenaway , who’s been on tv. he even let me have a photo with him so friendly thankyou , i had duck my husband had steak , both cooked to perfection . very novele cuisine. very expensive food for what it is but your paying for the location , and its beauty . Over £100 with drinks. i have to say that the bar tender that night was brilliant so friendly and helpful even gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly for congratulations on our wedding . second night we just had soup and a roll with a dessert and two drinks and that came to £64. most expensive soup i’ve had but it was delishious carrot and coriander . The second evening in the room was a nightmare there was a group of guests who were all going to a wedding being very loud right outside our room , because all drinking it actually woke me up then i couldn’t get back to sleep!!! but someone did come out and ask them to keep it down , so i’m assuming someone had complained. we give this venue 10/10 staffing 10/10 , location 10/10. noise/ sleep 8/10 but not hotels fault. well done everyone you all work very hard , thank you for a lovely stay .

Beautiful hotel, stunning views. Meal was excellent but could have been a bit hotter and the service that came with it was flat. Your hotel needs some personalities to make it come alive. There was a Nigerian man (sorry, didn't catch name) who was super friendly but we only saw him once in the bar. Just general feeling of lack of care really. Probably won't return.

Haweswater Hotel is set in a beautiful location looking out over the Reservoir. Staff upon arrival were kind and helpful when we arrived late in the dark and rain. It was the first night of our honeymoon and so we had booked a special room (King room with a view of the lake) which I mentioned when booking and upon arrival at the hotel. When we got to our room with our two dogs it had a bad smell and was quite small. It was dark and so hard to see from our window if there was a lovely view but we weren't very impressed considering the cost of the room. The hotel advertises being very dog friendly however there was nothing in the room to accommodate for our dogs. I went down to the bar to ask for a water bowl, we stored the dogs food in the bath and put our dogs beds in what I think was the wardrobe because there was very limited floor place. In the morning before checking out I looked out of our window to a view that was definitely not the reservoir and thought I must have not booked the room that I thought. After a nice breakfast and a walk around the reservoir we left for our first full day of honeymoon. The following day I checked my booking etc. and saw that the room we stayed in was completely different to what was on my booking, different room pictures, no lake view, much more spacious. I thought I would call to discuss with the hotel however I was told because I booked through booking.com there was nothing they could do and that it was booking.com's fault that I did not stay in the room I booked. I questioned the lake view, size of room and photos and was told booking.com must be using the wrong photos but the room was a king. I questioned the dog facilities and they said these were not listed as something they provide. The lovely staff and friendly service I had received during our stay disappeared. We were really disappointed.

Excellent 2 night stay - enjoyed every moment. |We booked dining in the bar for the first evening & the restaurant for the second. Outstanding food on both nights from Mark Greenaway & the team.|All was exactly as expected so we’ve booked again for next year.|Weather was a bit wet though - be prepared!
