Google
This hole-in-the-wall offers delicious, authentic Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine! Their dishes are super flavorful with generous portions at a good price ($14 each dish)! My favorite dishes were the Mee Siam and chicken rice. Just note that there is very limited seating and it’s a very casual, self-serve environment that only takes debit card or cash. Perfect place to satisfy Singaporean cravings on a budget!

Google
Foods we got were yummy, portion sizes were great too. Took us back to when we were in SE Asia. Would visit again for sure. There didn't seem to be A/C but there were fans, didn't seem to be a washroom either for their patrons. Other than that, a must visit for the food!

• No Washroom • Debit & Cash only • Very small & Narrow atmosphere for dine-in • Poor hygiene and cleanliness • Self order & pick up with order number • Self cleaning the table, put dirty dishes & trays away after eating. At first, I entered the store feeling excited. I was happy because the food smelled good and felt like I was in Southeast Asia. But it didn't last a minute. After other customer used the table, the staff don’t wipe the table only received new orders and money at the counter. That’s all what I saw during my visit. I just sat in an empty seat with no hygiene choice and should think that the whole system is like ‘Help yourself’. Sanitation & cleanliness is so bad. Please set up the disinfectant spray & table cloth then I will do myself before my sitting. Also, the table spacing was so narrow that unnecessary contact with other customers was very inconvenient. The taste is below medium! Especially the chicken is not much fresh. Roti was so-so. Fried kuey teow was off also too sweet. Advertisements that are cheap, tasty, and generous are untrustworthy . Just that much $15 quality. :( I’m sorry to say this, but it was unfortunately the most disappointing Malaysian food I’ve had so far. That’s why I had to leave a detailed real review. As food influencers with a large following in Vancouver, I sincerely hope you’ll consider sharing an honest and thoughtful video, with your hand on your heart, for the sake of your followers. Please and thank you.

Hawkers Delight on Main Street in East Vancouver is a great Singaporean food restaurant. Limited seating, but great tasting fresh ingredients dishes. Good vegetarian options.

Google
I really wish the restaurant was bigger! Only reason why I gave 4 stars. Very authentic Malaysian food that’s AFFORDABLE!!!! Keep in mind it is Cash or Debit only. I recommend Laksa and Nasi Goreng, classics. Been going here for over 7 years -

I have been dining here for years, and it has never failed to impress. I am surprised it has taken me this long to write a review for one of my favorite restaurants. The quality and consistency keep me coming back time and time again.

Google
A pretty decent Singaporean restaurant. The place is quite small and usually has a steady stream of customers. It leans toward being affordable and budget-friendly.

You place your order pay in cash or debit card, no credit card, find your seat, they call you for your food when is ready, clear your own table after finish eating, food acceptable good.

Yelp
As a Southeast Asian food lover, I have been searching for the authentic taste in Vancouver. I heard about this small bistro on the Main St and I felt excited to give it a try. It was not hard to find the shop and there are plenty of street parking nearby. The moment I entered the shop, the smell was so familiar and my nose told me this is authentic. There were many picture of their dishes posted on the wall. This is really great for first time customers. I ordered Nasi Lemak as it is a signature dish of Malaysian cuisine. The rice with rich flavour of coconut, the fried chicken pieces were nicely done without over cooked and perfect to eat with the sauce. It was wonderful! I would appreciate if they can add some dried small fishes to the dish. I asked the server for recommendations and she also recommended chicken rice and mie goreng (fried noodle). I will try them when I visit there next time. In terms of price performance I think this place is highly recommended.

Yelp
10/10 would recommend staying in and ordering takeout from Hawkers Delight Deli and sharing with good people. Delicious authentic Singaporean and Malaysian food and known for good cheap eats in Vancouver! Delightful Friday night! We've come here a handful of times most ordering to take home. Born and raised in south Vancouver this place is legend! We can't comment too much about the service or ambiance doing takeout but this Hawkers Delight is always busy and we all know why! Best kept non-secret in Vancouver as cheap delicious eats!

Yelp
Having been to Singapore many times including recently, this is the most legit I've found in Vancouver. Not fussy or fancy, debit or cash only, limited seating. The Hainanese chicken leg was right, the rice was perfect. Had the roti - more of the Indian party's style than canal with the curry dipping sauce. Bunch of Indonesian dishes also, wasn't clear if they no longer sell satay or sold out. The mee goreng and laksa looked and smelled right. Will try next time. Fair prices, decent size portions.

Yelp
Hands down, I think this was my favorite place to eat at while visiting Vancouver. I don't get Singaporean / Malaysian food often, but when I do it is always a treat! I honestly don't remember how I stumbled across this place, but my mom's friend sent her a food article and this place came up as a spot with delicious food and cheap prices. We happened to be staying near this restaurant, so after walking around quite a bit, we finally had a chance to sit down and enjoy our meal. Between my mom, sister and I , we shared the laksa, char kway teow, and hainan chicken. With tax, everything came out to be about $42 CAD. They have counter service so you order there, then grab an available table. When your number is called, you pick up your food via lunch tray style along with the rest of your utensils / sharing bowls / water cups. Portion sizes are so worth it. We thought we wouldn't finish everything, but we did after all the exploring during the day! I loved the laksa and char kway teow the most. The Hainan chicken wasn't bad either, but I feel that dish is more common to find vs the other two. We left stuffed and satisfied. To be honest I wouldn't have minded coming a second time to try the dishes we didn't get to have hahah. If I am remembering correctly, they are cash only! This spot is also very small and not good for larger groups if you plan to dine in. Once you're finished, you bus your own dishes.

Yelp
Two things I will order here when I want a taste of Singapore food are the fried kway teow and vegetable fritters. On my last visit, the staff asked if I wanted the Singapore style with lup cheong (Chinese sausage) or just with chicken (not sure what version that is). I guess now they try to differentiate the different types of fried kway teow. Items I don't really like on the menu are the bak Kut teh and Mee rebus. They are not what I'm used to back in Singapore. The other dishes I've tried are ok, not so bad.

Yelp
Like what people have been saying. Parking is horrible in this area. It is smaller place so, it's easy to miss if you're driving at night. They have a good selection on their menu. When I got the food, it was fresh and hearty. Everything is in take out containers as this place only offers take out. The hainanese chicken and the fried rice was two of the most recommended dish. Will try the Laksa next time.

Yelp
This place is a local Gen in Vancouver offering hawkers food in the city. The place is small and cozy and i believe it's cash only. The service was quick and easy. You order at the cash register and beside them is the cutlery stand. You get a number and wait for it to get called. I ordered char kway teow and it's absolutely tasty. The noodles were good and there was so much meat. So full after. I definitely want to go back here and order other dishes on the menu.

Yelp
Either their vegan options have changed or they previously gave me bad information. I visited for lunch, hoping to get their Mee Goreng without egg, but apparently their noodles have egg even though the menu says wheat noodles are used. I was told that the only main dishes they could do vegan are the Mee Siam and the Vegetable Curry. I got the Mee Siam ($13.50) and added some greens (+$1) to round out the dish, which was ready in under 10 minutes. The portion was very large, coming with a soupy, somewhat sweet, tamarind & sweet potato sauce, with lots of thin vermicelli, tons of tofu (mostly the small cubes, but also tofu puffs, plenty of bok choy, bean sprout and garnishes (peanuts, green onion, lime). Really fantastic flavours and a well-integrated dish. I don't have enough experience with the dish to know how authentic it is, but it struck me as fairly authentic. Very tasty hole-in-the-wall, affordable, and well-portioned. Still recommended.

Yelp
My last review was a year ago and since then I am thrilled to say I've been to Hawkers and have ordered from Hawkers multiple times and it's always SO DELICIOUS! Tonight we ordered - Mee Pok - noodles with a pork sauce, pork cutlets, fish cakes and prawns and it was so tasty, flavour on point! We got veggie fritters which were sizeable for $2 and came with a vinegar based dipping sauce. We also got spring roles as well which were piping and so flavourful. A MUST that we always get is the Roti Prata - delicious flakey thin dough dipped in a spicy-ish coconut curry sauce of sorts. Phenomenal food and perfect for a cold winters night! Also the value is great - $38 total for our two meals and we've got lots of leftovers!

Yelp
Totally forgot about this place so it was time to give them another go. Parking is quite awful here. Totally rememebered why I haven't been here in ages. Cross your fingers and look on the side streets. Staff are the real deal Singaporean. Prices are still somewhat reasonable, though personally I found the portions a wee bit on the small side. I had their fried kuey teow. It's a bit sweeter than the HK style equivalent. Nice and tasty though. Their vegetable fritters are better than the last time I had them (previous review). They were actually warm this time. Came with dipping sauce too. Wouldn't mind coming back.

Yelp
Have been going to Hawkers for a long time but kinda forgot about this place after moving further from the Main Street area. Was around the neighbourhood running errands and decided to order some take out. This is a beloved hole in the wall Malaysian joint that would be similar to a Hawker stall in Asia. Food is made fresh, fast, and furious with good portion sizes and affordable prices. Today, ordered the Laksa, Roti pratha, Hainese chicken with rice, and Fried Kuey Teow (spicy). Reheated the large single roti in the toaster over and it came out warm and flakey. The curry dipping sauce was wonderful and for $3.50, it is a solid deal. Laksa is filling, full of seafood, and the soup base is rich, creamy, and flavourful. This has always been one of my go-to dishes as it can be hard to find a good laksa in the city. Hainese chicken with rice is also one of my favourites here. It still doesn't disappoint with tender juicy chicken, flavourful chicken scented rice, and a nice chili dipping sauce. The Fried Kuey Teow with chicken that I ordered spicy but couldn't really taste the spice. However, it is a nice dish filled with lots of chicken and toppings. A tad oily but typical of a rice noodle stir fry dish. Order came out to be $44.50, which could easily feed 3 people. There's a reason why this gem continues to be beloved in the city!

Yelp
Theres always a few hidden gems around our neighborhood yet to be discovered From the moment I was in the restaurant to the moment I left, theres non-stop of customers coming in and out, and that has sure proven the popularity of this small business. They have a pretty large menu and it took me forever to be able to pick what I want to eat! Laksa is their most popular item on the menu, so we have to give it a try. I really like how subtle the coconut milk is but the whole dish is still very flavorful. They also put a generous among of ingredients in it. The nasi goreng and the fried kuey was also very delicious. However my favorite would have to be the Hainanese chicken rice. The chicken was so tender and soft. The rice to me is definitely the star of the whole dish. It's so flavorful but light at the same time! Sometimes the fragrant rice tends to feel a bit oily, but it is not the case here at all. I really enjoyed everything I had!

Yelp
Small and busy spot with everyone working at break neck speed in the back. Food comes out fast and looks good for the dine in clients but I opted for take out. Had the Hainan Chicken, it was moist and tender. Disappointing with the rice, as it didn't even taste or look like it had been cooked the Hainese way. Very Disappointed that I didn't get ANY green onion oil. Also tried the Mee Remus noodle dish, noodles were good and enjoyed the sauce, except for a hard boiled egg there was not much else. The dine in version seemed more abundant In ingredients.

What I.

Yelp
It's cafeteria / food court style so can't comment on service. Sticky tables, poor ventilation if you're not picky about the about the ambiance and smelly clothes after. We've been here a few times food is just mediocre but acceptable. Sometimes it's a hit and miss in terms of quality and taste. So a bit of inconsistency. Nonetheless, it's economical and may satisfy ones craving for Malaysian/Singaporean foods.

John D.

Yelp
Food and service were great! We had a large take out order, and nothing was a miss. We ordered the Fried Kuey Teow, Roti Prata, Laksa, Lamb curry, Hainanese chicken, and Mee Pok. We had 14 people with nothing but smiles and compliments. Would love to go back again when in Vancover.

Yelp
Small shop and with limited seating. It was packed around lunch and dinner time. Parking was a bit tough. Cash only!!! 7/10 Fried Kuey Teow - good portion and price but flavor was just ok. Noodles were good. Might try other dishes but wouldn't get this again.

Yelp
This places simply just slaps so hard. I met a Singaporean woman while visiting Vancouver and she recommended Hawkers. Boy am I happy she did. Everything about this restaurant is very authentic. The woman who took my order said she's from Singapore and stores like this there look just like it. So many food options that all sound wonderful. I got the Laksa and because my jaw literally dropped when I read the description. The noodles are a wonderful texture. The bowls is huge. Go give this place your money. They only take cash and debit!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is not bad and a decent Singapore food joint. Regarding the service here, everything here is self serve. The ambiance here is very typical hawker style.

Yelp
My go to Malay place in town. The laksa broth is full of flavor, heated to just the right temperature, fresh shrimp, along with a perfectly soaked fried tofu. This dish is like a drug - and without a doubt my cravings would come back every two weeks. The kway teow is equally as good. The "wok hei" is perfect - just the right amount of heat, soy, bursting with flavors for every chewy bite. Of course, the uncomfortable plastic chairs, green walls, and sounds of the frying wok environment adds to the authenticity of your meal.

Clumsy W.

Yelp
Gave this place a try after watching a YouTube review . Laksa is terrible by the time we got it the noodles soaked up most the broth making if difficult to eat Hainanese Chicken also is roughly cut and meat quality not that good. Rather pay $1-2 more and eat at John 3-16 or Mamalee

Yelp
=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE Some tastes of Singapore come to Main Street in Vancouver at a reasonable price - and that's a good thing! === 2. FOOD If you've eaten Hainanese chicken at a "hawka centa" in Singapore, you'll know how naturally (or unnaturally?) addicting it can be - seemingly healthy (not fried) chicken that's boneless and tastes amazingly good on its own or with rice. So it's with high expectations that we ventured to try out Hawkers Delight Deli... Hainanese Chicken Rice ($10.99): a chicken leg on rice with cucumbers and a tomato slice. HDD gets points for offering boneless chicken (some places in town do bone-in instead), a decent flavour for the chicken, and the tomato is a nice touch I suppose (not commonly offered). But it loses points for coarse chopping (tomato is a thick slice, cucumbers are big chunks that are harder to eat vs. everyone else offering thin, easy-to-eat slices) and rice that's flavoured but hard - sitting in the rice cooker too long perhaps? Only the sweet chili sauce is offered; the sweet soy sauce typically included is not offered by HDD. The extra leg of Hainanese chicken can be ordered for $6.65 and it's identical, sans rice and some cucumber. === 3. SERVICE & ENVIRONMENT During COVID, there is not a place to dine-in, though it looks like bar-style seating was available at one point in time. Those with wheelchairs or baby strollers have plenty of space. The dim, hole-in-the-wall feel allows you to order essentially at a window inside and head out to enjoy your bounty. Service was fine for quick and efficient takeout, but they accept only cash. Parking is a challenge with Main Street typically busy at the meters out front and only one spot in the back, so be prepared to walk some ways to get here!

Yelp
A hole in the wall, must try! Here's somewhere you NEED to check out for some authentic and CHEAP Singaporean food with big portions. Hawkers Delight has been around for over a decade! [ HAIANESE CHICKEN RICE ] Perfectly cooked boneless chicken served over flavoured rice. The chicken was tendered and silky, with a rich layer of fat on top! This was by far the best haianese rice we've had, the flavour of chicken essence was in every bite, and we can't get enough of it! [ MEE GORENG ] The mee Goreng portion was huge! This is what you called "bang for a buck". We liked that it wasn't overly greasy, but still loaded with flavours! [ ROTI PRATA ] Got too excited and devoured this before taking a photo! it's roti with a side of curry. Try it for yourself, words cannot explain how quickly we devoured it. * CURRENTLY IT'S TAKE-OUT ONLY * ---------- LOCATION|4127 Main Street, Vancouver PRICE |$ 。$10.99 Haianese Chicken Rice 。$10.95 Mee Goreng 。$3.00 Roti Prata

Yelp
Hawkers have been my go to place for comfort food at fantastic prices. Been coming to their little gem for many, many years. Sometimes it's a miss but many times it's a hit. You come for the food and eat & go. The place it tiny. Glad they are open during this time for take out. Had Mee Goreng (choice of spicy or non-spicy): fried wheat noodles with egg, bean sprout, onion, tomatoes, tofu, diced potatoes and yu choy. Lamb Curry Rice: steamed rice with small chunks of lamb and vegetables curry. This is probably their signature dish and the one I order the most. A little but not screaming hot spicy. Both dishes were delicious and the portions were generous. After 2 servings each there was still leftover for tomorrow. Dinner total for two was $25 not including tax and tip.
google avatar

Yelp
We decided to finally try this place for dinner. It was ready relatively fast. The mee goreng was spicy but not much other flavour. I've definitely had better. The hainanese chicken was not very good. For $13.50, I would expect more than 4 pieces of Chicken. The rice had no flavour so I suspect it was plain rice. This dish was a disappointment because the chicken was not smooth and tasted like regular chicken. Way overpriced for what we gots. The only dish that was decent was the fried kuey teow . It actually was quite tasty. This is the only dish I thought was good. I'm not sure I want to try any other dishes. There were more misses than hits!

Yelp
This place was ok. I ordered their Hainan chicken, their deep fried chicken wings, fried kuey teow, and lamb curry rice. There's nothing fancy or anything about this place and the food wasn't the best yet not the worst, it was just ok. The food to me is quite underwhelming. I will not be ordering from here again.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised we could dine in, was expecting take away. Friendly service. My Hainanese Chicken Rice was ok. My partner said his Laksa was great. And the roti is delicious!! We got some to go with my leftovers.

Yelp
Came here after hearing many recommendations and having it on my to try list for years and we were not disappointed with the food or the prices! Very small place with not a huge menu but the people that work there are really nice and the food is authentic! We got the hainanese chicken rice, which was really flavourful, a large portion and had a good amount of chicken as well! I tried out the mee pok with minced pork sauce, some protein (shrimp, pork and fish cake) and lots of noodles, for the first time and although it looked really heavy, but since the portion was so large, when you mixed everything in, it wasnt overly salty or oily! I really liked the noodle they used too! Next we got the fried kwey teow which was rice noodles wok fried with egg, fish cake, chicken and shrimp. They were quite generous with the amount of size of this dish and it was dang tasty too! My family also loved the laksa which was the perfect blend of spicy and coconut. The noodles were the rice noodles (thick) which I don't love but I believe you can choose to change the noodle if requested. I liked that they also gave a good amount of chicken and prawn on top as well. We topped off the meal with their vegetable fritters which were a GREAT price for some huge sized fried vegetable balls! Overall, Hawkers Delight has it all! Food that is really yummy, large portions for the price and friendly service. Some dishes are a little oilier but thats expected for Malaysian food and they dont have many "appies" but their large dishes are so well priced, you could just order another ;)

Yelp
I used to come to Hawkers all the time. When I was a starving student, and even up until I first got married, Hawkers definitely offered a lot of bang for the buck. In those days, two people could get stuffed with two dishes and a side for about $15. One could overlook the oiliness of the food and the lack of seating at that price. But now that prices have crept up a bit, I'd rather pay an extra $10-20 to avoid waiting up to 25 minutes for a seat and getting jostled around by other patrons once I got seated. The food is as oily as ever, the fritters are cold and service is glacially slow. If you are on a budget, Hawkers is tough to beat. But, if you can afford it, look elsewhere.
google avatar

Elaine L.

Yelp
Guys, trust me the Laksa here is AMAZING!!! I find myself coming back here again and again for a quick meal, for take out, and to just enjoy in this small shop! I constantly crave their laksa, nowhere else makes it like them!!

Yelp
Haven't been here in ages.. It's still the same old dirty hole-in-the-wall hawker place with pretty authentic tasting Singaporean and Malaysian food! We ordered the Roti Prata to start, and the Fried Kway Teow and Hainanese Chicken Rice as our mains. The Roti Prata was crispy, with a rich buttery taste. The curry dip it came with was flavourful, albeit a tad over-salty. The Fried Kway Teow (my absolute fave dish to order at any Singaporean / Malaysian place) was quite delicious! Wok-fried to order in their big open kitchen, it tasted just like the same dish you would get straight from a hawker centre in Singapore. Both the chicken & the rice in the Hainanese Chicken Rice dish had just the right hit of flavour. The only thing missing was an accompanying bowl of chicken rice soup to wash it down with! The place is small and can get pretty warm even with a ceiling fan. Water/hot tea is available, alongside self-serve utensils. Decent portion sizes and relatively low prices make for good value. With authentic-tasting food and a truly hawker-like experience, it's worth stopping in for a bite if you're in the area.

Yelp
If you like oily and affordable food, you've come to the right place. This place is a small hole-in-the-wall style restaurant that is self-seating and self-serve. You order and pay at the front, get a number, and take a seat. Then, they either bring you your food or call your number when your dishes are ready. The restaurant is very bare-bones and small, where you grab your own cutlery and glasses of water. After eating, you can put your dishes away in the collection bin, or let them clear the tables. The menu is very easy to read, posted on the walls, with lots of pictures and visible prices. That day, we were craving roti, so we got two of those that came with curry, as well as mee goreng and vegetable spring rolls. It was a carb heavy, meat-free meal that day. Oh man, did I regret the choices. Not only was each dish oily and greasy, but also so heavy in the stomach. First, we got the vegetable spring rolls. These were crispy, but the bottom of the plate pooled with its oil. I think they need to rest their fried items on a rack first before plating so the oil does not collect and continue to soak in the food. I could almost not believe how much oil there was - I thought it was possibly the vegetable juices - but no, it was definitely oil. Then came the mee goreng. The flavour was there, with a spicy kick, and it was quite tasty, but again, this was cooked with a ton of oil. The roti was flaky and crispy, and again, on the oily side (which is expected). The weird thing is, they had no knives in the self-serve cutlery section, so I asked the lady at the front for one. She said they did not have any. That's odd, but whatever, we were still able to easily portion the roti with a fork and spoon. There could have been more curry sauce given for the 2 rotis, but I liked this sauce a lot. I have also had their laksa before. It's decent - not the largest portion, but big enough for me. The soup is flavourful, although I've had better. Prices are decent enough, so I would get this again. After that carb heavy meal, I felt so gross. I didn't even eat that much - I could feel the heaviness - but it was still sitting in my stomach like a rock. I had that feeling you get after you eat McDonald's, and we all know that is not a great feeling. I would really recommend getting only one to two fried foods as an accompaniment to your meal, as I would next time. I do think the flavours are there, and the value can't be beat, as all of this cost about $15 bucks. It would not be my top go-to choice for Malaysian, but I would not be opposed to going if I felt like having a cheap and quick meal.

Yelp
I had high expectations because of all the reviews here but this isn't a place I'm going to go back to. COVID protocols: I'm not too sure about picking up/eating in as I ordered through Ubereats My order: Mee goreng 3/5 Laksa 2/5 I think the prices are extremely affordable but I'd rather go for something else than this. The mee goreng was decent but not something I'd purposely come back for. It was flavourful and spices were well balanced with the tamarind. However, I found the laksa super sweet and the quality of ingredients a reflection of what you pay for. Final recommendation: Perhaps a dine-in experience would be better but not a place that has convinced me to come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome and very inexpensive hole in the wall, but cash only. This is during COVID so take out only but hey given the limitations this place is the bomb. The Laksa flavors were out of this world. Soto Ayam is a really good gem, it's like rice paste, hard to describe, like really thick rice noodles with choy sum, fish cake, flavoring. Mee goreng is decent. I love the tofu stuffed with peanut sauce and veggies. The curry chicken is not bad too. Would definitely go back. The only problem is they forgot a hainanese chicken but I called them and they said they would give me one free next time.

Yelp
This hole in the wall Malaysian joint is a must try when in the Main st. neighborhood. Serving authentic Malaysian / Singaporean hawker dishes, this place is everything but frills - if you're a fan of 'wok hei' from traditional Asian cuisine (aka the rich flavors from stir frying), this is the place to go. I had the chance to try multiple items off their menu over several visits, items that I find myself reordering is the Spicy Prawn Noodle, the Fried Kuey Teow, the Mee Goreng and the Vegetable Fritter (!!!) - highly recommend the vegetable fritters!

Yelp
This place is very small but homey. Walk in and the aroma hits you along with the sounds of the kitchen and fellow dine in guests. I also adore the folk music they got going on in the background. It's very tight squeeze to walk around but if you're a solo traveler like me, I recommend sitting at the window to people watch. The food comes out really fast too. Not even a minute after I sat down, it was delivered to me. I'm so glad I came here because there is zero malaysian food in San Diego :( I have a soft spot for Malaysian food since it reminds me a lot of Vietnamese. I ordered the Laksa and if you're Vietnamese, this tastes like the coconut version of Bun Rieu. Its so good and cheap too.

Yelp
Great food, great prices, and friendly staff. I've been here once before for dine in (pre-covid) and again for take out. Both times I was very satisfied with my meals. This time around, I ordered mee pok with the broad wheat noodles. It had a minced pork sauce that needed to be mixed with the noodles. As well, it had fish cakes, thin slices of pork, prawns, and some vegetables. It was quite tasty. I asked for it spicy and it came with some pickled jalapenos...making it a bit too spicy, but it was still good. I liked the thick noodles and the sauce was not too salty. Overall, it was a satisfying dish and very affordable.

Yelp
Super yum! The flavors are nicely balanced and I found the food to be quite well preserved when getting take out. Definitely a good spot if you want your food to go. Also rather affordable for portion size. Roti is also super delicious. Kind of takes a while to make though, so better to call ahead and make your order!

Yelp
Actually not a bad place. Can only comment on their chicken rice as that's all we ordered. Not bad at all. Reasonable prices say when compared to Mamalee on Broadway. Prefer the garlic chili sauce at Mamalee though. Worth doing takeouts IMHO.

Yelp
I missed a good bowl of Laksa and that made me want to go to Hawkers. I went here last Friday for Laksa ($8.60), and the size seemed little smaller than before. Even though staff was busy making other food, my food came out fast. It was full of flavours along with smoothness of coconut milk. It's nice they have 2 water coolers in the restaurant. One by the entrance and another one by the counter. Also I personally like their Laksa better than Cafe Dlite Express in Aberdeen mall.

Yelp
Super affordable Malaysian cuisine on the heart of Mount Pleasant! I've wanted to try this place for a while but I never have cash on me (they are cash only). Today I stumbled upon Hawkers again so my boyfriend and I decided to try the food here. I ordered Laksa ($9.55) and he ordered Mee Rubus ($8.55). To be honest I'm not too familiar with the cuisine and I've only had Laksa twice (both in Vancouver) so I may not be the best judge, but our out of three times I've had it this place was my least favourite. The flavour was a bit lacking and there weren't enough toppings VS noodles. Noodles were also rice noodles or wheat noodles and not egg noodles. However, for the price I would say it's a bargain as their service was super fast too. I'm someone who looks for taste before price so I would give Hawker's a 3 based on the Laksa that I've tried but I'll have to come back and try more things from here.

Yelp
As far as I can tell from local Vancouverites, Hawkers is an institution, and not for nothing. After finally trying it out I'm willing to say I definitely want to come back! I went for the Fried Kuey Teow, and made sure to ask for spicy - and guess what, it was reasonably spicy! No skimping on the capsaicin here, like a lot of other places do. For a cool $10 I got a heaping, delicious pile of veggies, noodles, and meat, and quite quickly to boot. It's not often you find a meal that really warms the heart and makes you feel just full enough. And the folks working here are really nice too. What's not to love?

Yelp
Hainan chicken and rice!! That is all! This place looks and smells amazing once you're able to get in. Tiniest hole in the wall! It's on the busiest road, parking is non existent. It's also camouflage between many tiny signs and grocery stores! I tried last time to dine in but it was unsuccessful! So this time, take out it is! Dinner rush was busy. Called half hour ahead for chicken and rice and it still had a little wait. Tiny kitchen, so many people cooking! Family run for sure! The place was full! Mee goreng is massive!! But the chicken and rice was rather small. Tasty fragrant rice! A lot of rice! Tiny chicken. For a fatty skin pieces, they were quite good! My pup loves the smell so much he tried to steal some :) Overall, I prefer Thai chicken and rice over this version. But this was pretty tasty! Just a lot of hassle getting to here. Laksa look pretty good for next time!

Yelp
they have totally changed the vibe in here - I guess new owners maybe ? I can't speak for the food because I haven't been able to order anything - the food I used to order here ( ordered it maybe 400 times in a row ) is apparently beyond the capabilities of the cooks in the kitchen now - and instead of the smiles and service you used to get here it was all scowls and refusing to make the same thing they had made for me 100's of times over years of regular customer service. oh well - they still look busy but I don't spend my money here anymore. adios hawkers - it was good when you were able to offer options for spicy or not and I'm truly sorry it's beyond your ability now.

Yelp
Came by on a Saturday afternoon to this very popular Singapore/Malaysian establishment. It is small with limited seating but we were lucky and secured a table. We ordered the chicken curry (with rice), fried noodles and roti with curry..all for $20. The noodles and chicken curry were okay...fairly typical Malaysian. The roti & dipping curry combo was the highlight of the meal...if we went back, that is all I would order. They also have complimentary hot tea. Great food value for the price and it was a positive food experience...happy to go back just for the roti & curry.

Yelp
Great spot to fulfil the craving for fast, cheap, and delicious Singaporean food. I'll be returning. [Dishes] Laksa - really tasty, not overly spicy, and surprisingly sweet compared to other laksa that I've had. Would recommend. Hainanese Chicken rice - the rice was cooked to perfection, you'll taste the chickeny goodness with every bite. The chicken was good too, but the rice is the standout. [Atmosphere] Things are bustling. Make sure to scope out a table quick, or you could be left standing with a tray of food and nowhere to eat it. The service is quick and efficient, and won't appreciate anything that slows down the stream of food from the kitchen. If you've got a big group, this place probably isn't for you. I'd say four max to sit comfortably. [Value] Pretty good value. Paid $10 each for the laksa and the chicken rice.

Yelp
This area is filled with restaurants and eateries but luck was on my side and I found parking right outside! We came after the rush around 7:15pm on a Friday night so we got a good size table by the wall. It's definitely hole in the wall type of place where you grab your own utensils and tea/water. The plastic cups for hot tea isn't really ideal so mainly used to clean the utensils. We ordered some of the classics. Fried kuey teow, hainanese chicken, roti prata and bak kut teh with noodles. The kuey teow we asked for mild heat and I guess they couldn't do it because there was no heat at all. It was quite bland but you can still taste the 'wok air' (frying with a wok that gives off a different taste). The hainanese chicken was boneless and pretty tender; mostly dark meat and dressed with some sauce already. The rice is seasoned well also so the sauce on the side was not really necessary. I could definitely see myself eating just this again. I have had bak kut teh elsewhere and this one is not nearly as peppery as it should or could be. The spareribs had no taste at all because it all went into the broth?? I am really glad we chose the round rice noodles instead of rice to go with it. Finally the roti, when it came, I wasn't impressed. It was very flat on the plate like a green onion pancake. When I broke it up with a fork, then I could see it had some layers too it. The curry sauce is very runny and had some heat. I am glad I tried it but it's not the best in town. I would come back for takeout orders. The atmosphere is authentic to how you would eat it in Malaysia, I suppose? Definitely not a fan of all those fans.

Yelp
All these food from Hawker Delight reminded me about the food that I had in Singapore. The food brought me a lot of memories. The food tasted good but not quite the same. Most of the food are greasy. The hainan chicken with rice had so much rice but there was not a lot of chicken, so the dish did not look proportional. The restaurant is very small and there are many chairs and tables as well as counter stools. My graceful companion and I ordered the food at the cashier and grabbed a table with a number. A server brought food to our table. Due to the limited space, we did not really enjoy the environment. The food was just cheap or okay. Indeed they lacked quality unfortunately. I went to their bathroom. It was kind of dirty and I didn't want to go back there. My recommendation is to order take out and eat the food at home or somewhere else. You may feel more comfortable.

Yelp
Classic hole in the wall excellence, complete with cash only, self serve water, and delicious food. I will 100% return to this place every time I visit Vancouver. It's as close as I can get without actually going to Singapore. From a Singaporean's perspective, here's what to get: Kway Teow (5/5): This is a classic singaporean/malaysian dish, that is not to be missed. It's kind of like pad see ew, but with a more savory flavor rather than sweet. One of my favorites. Laksa (5/5): Must get. This is a coconut based seafood noodle soup. It's a bit spicy but as someone who really hates spice, I will deal with it for this dish. Bak Kut Teh (5/5): This pork herbal soup will heal your soul and fight off diseases you didn't know you had. Super peppery and flavorful. Give this lesser known soup a try! Mee Pok (4/5): This noodle dish isn't as flavorful as the other dishes. Hainan chicken rice (3/5): Not enough flavor and fragrance.

Yelp
Price alert! The menus photographed have old pricing. Add about 1.5 to each item for the updated price. The food here is tasty and much like the hawker style in South East Asia. Try their char Kuay Teow - it is pretty authentic.
