This hidden gem exceeded our expectations. We booked an ocean-view deluxe efficiency room with a king bed and large picture window. It's very clean and minimalist yet with all the kitchenette essentials, coffee and tea. We enjoyed wine outdoors by the sloping lawn and walked the path to the private beach. Easy parking and walking distance to downtown Chatham. Jennifer and Sean are gracious hosts.

Our stay at the Hawthorne was fabulous. It is a quaint hotel perfectly located overlooking the water. It is a short walk to restaurants & shops. The staff is superb and so accommodating. The rooms are neat and clean. We have already reserved our room for next year. You will not regret staying there!

Google
Such a lovely little motel in a prime location with an amazing view of the Chatham Bars and just feet from Chatham Bars Inn. The rooms are small, but spotlessly clean and stocked with everything you would expect including a very comfortable bed! My only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the walls are pretty thin and you can hear your neighbors very clearly. That said, I would definitely return!

Great property. Views are awesome. Service is great and friendly. Cannot wait to get back next year. Family owned and operated so a personal touch. Upgrade to an efficiency of you can. Short walk to town makes the location perfect. Hawthorne also has their own beach. Beautiful

Fantastic hotel in great location. Big rooms with great views on the water. Deckchairs to take to the beach, plenty of parking. Welcoming owners who were helpful. Everything you could want from a place to stay. Completely recommend and would definitely stay again

Excellent trip, the stay was great. We have been staying here for years, and will continue to come back. Nice location close by to the center of town for walking, but far enough away to not be in the hustle and bustle of everyone. The room was great clean, inviting, staff is very friendly.

Rooms were very clean. Staff was very helpful and gave us very good information about walking on the beach. They also gave us excellent eating recommendations when asked. The beach was clean and I walked near the ocean and saw the sunrise and sunset. I enjoyed being on the beach with only a few other people at this time of the year.

Welcoming on arrival. Spacious room with comfy beds and great facilities. Being able to walk down to the beach and watch the sunrise was amazing. Pricy but worth it for the views. Short drive to Main Street with lovely shops, bars and restaurants. Highly recommend Chatham.

Yelp
Thank you for a wonderful visit to your establishment. The view was gorgeous! This hotel gave us the feeling of going home because of all the comforts and simpleness. It was easy to come and go. The location was perfect for us to walk to town and shop and eat. I would have loved to have met the owner. Our understanding is that she is a senior and still gardens her property. The hydrangeas were beautiful! The furniture in our room was very nice quality. This place wanted me to take up canvas painting! Tip: The hotel is perfect for relaxing. For entertainment, food, and amenities you should plan on going out and about by car and foot.

Yelp
We booked this hotel for our first time to the Cape and it was the perfect home base for us. There are so many great things about this motel including the price, proximity to Main Street in Chatham, and central location to all other cities in the Cape. Has direct access to a private beach and is right next door to the Chatham Bars Inn ($1,000+ per night) and the Chatham Fish Market and restaurant. The grass area is perfect to grab a drink with a beautiful view of the ocean. Our only (minor) complaint is the mattress was very hard. Would definitely stay here again!!

Yelp
The hubz and I needed a refresh, renew & rejuvenate weekend so of course that means the Cape! Booked this hotel on Hotels.com and we were NOT disappointed! Quintessential Cape Cod motel, on the water. The views were amazing, it was so refreshing to sit on the lawn with a cocktail (or breakfast, we did both) and drink in the salt air and sound of the waves. The room was very clean and good size. Due to COVID there was no maid service but they made sure we had extra towels (I'm a fanatic about clean towels). Location was great to pop into Main Street Chatham and to head either north or south. I'd recommend this to anyone....we will be back!

Yelp
My husband and I came out to stay with family for our reception in Falmouth and last minute decided to have a honeymoon night before returning back to family. My husband is from Massachusetts and said that his favorite town is Chatham. I found this hotel, booked on Expedia. I had no idea what to expect. When I emailed the hotel they told me that they upgraded us to the Princess Room and that it had the best views in the whole hotel. They were not joking. The room had windows on the three sides that looked out onto the water and there was nothing blocking the view. They have beach chairs and towels if you want to be on the beach. Lawn chairs and tables if you want to sit out on the huge lawn and look out to the water without being in the sand. They have cornhole, bbq, and a picnic table if you want to cook and eat outside. The Princess room has a queen bed, super soft linens, great bathroom products, a table for 2 and a full kitchenette. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We didn't want to leave! I would highly recommend this hotel for couples and families. Priced much better than the Chatham Bars Inn and has better views and friendlier staff.

Yelp
Really nice hotel. Can't beat the location-on the beach and 3 blocks from town. We were in room 112 and had a nice beach view, able to see the boats on the water and the beach. Room 110 puts you with a direct ocean view out your room. Nice lawn/ocean view for most of the rest. Coffee in the lobby 8am- every day. Staff is super helpful with restaurant info. We walked to Main st many times and enjoyed the shops and restaurants there. The Hanger-B at the airport was our favorite breakfast. I had apple, potato, pineapple French toast with Chantilly cream and it was excellent. We drove 1 hour to Hyannisport and took the 45 min. fast ferry to Nantucket. Rent bikes, ride the bike path to Cisco beach and then stop by the Cisco brewery on the way back for drinks and street cart food. Finish the day with a chic pea hummus curry wrap from Provisions near the dock before taking the ferry back. Great day! Great hotel to come home to!

Yelp
It's a shame that this place won't follow through with a promised refund. Two months ago I checked in to learn that the shower didn't work and the room was dirty. They promised a refund, even gave me a printed invoice showing that the room was refunded in full. Two months later, however, my Bank doesn't have that refund and I'm spending way too much time trying to get this done. I just feel that the Hawthorne won't back its word, its commitment or even its own documentation. Shame, as this is a great location.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I took our first real couple's vacation together and chose the cape. It was his first time in the cape and my second; it's somewhere we talked about going together for a while. When we searched for hotels online, we snatched up the Hawthorne pretty quickly because it was the last ocean-view room available. Part of me wondered if it was in impulsive (and pricey) choice, but we honestly could not have made a better one. Well worth every single dollar spent. The service was excellent. David, the owner, is around our age and was incredibly welcoming. He was excited about us being first-timers in the area and took his time to map out places we should go in Chatham. he talked to us like good friends visiting his home. Very down-to-earth and helpful, and enthusiastic about us coming back (which we will!). The housekeepers were incredibly kind and helpful, too. Best hospitality I've ever received somewhere. The icing on the cake is the location. The view is absolutely beautiful, especially the ocean-view rooms. We got up early our first morning there to watch the sunrise and it was breath-taking. One of the most beautiful sunrises you'll witness. The beach was private (a surprise to us), and it was so peaceful. The downtown area with all of the shops/restaurants is walking distance. Very, very pleased with our stay at The Hawthorne. I got nostalgia leaving. It already feels like another home my boyfriend and I look forward to returning to.

Yelp
Our room was super clean and tidy with cute toiletry amenities. Definitely get the room with the water view - you won't regret it. The beach is steps away from the property and is perfect for running up and down on in the mornings. David, the manager, is super friendly and did everything he could to make our stay more comfortable.

Yelp
My beau and I drove to Cape Cod after a stressful week covering Hurricane Irene (he's a severe weather photographer). We hadn't planned the trip and were aiming for nothing more than R&R in a restful, quiet place. When having lunch in Chatham at the Captain's Table (great chowder!) we asked the owner where we should go, and she recommended the Hawthorne. So glad she did! The Hawthorne is spotlessly clean, charming, and utterly welcoming. There's a private beach. There are rabbits on the lawn. Free, good coffee. Marshmallow roasts on the beach in the evenings. The rooms are super-comfortable, and Ellie and Gil, the proprietors, are excellent conversationalists--with the equally important innkeepers' gift of knowing when their guests are done talking. We laid out on the beach at night and watched shooting stars. I started leaving my smartphone in the hotel. No better proof of relaxation, right? I give the Hawthorne my highest recommendation! and look forward to returning. My only wish: that one room be designated pet-friendly so I could import my black Lab.

Yelp
The Hawthorne is in a great location - on the water, just a few minutes' walk from Chatham. It's quite charming and the staff is efficient and friendly. Our room was well appointed, cozy, and clean. Bed was very firm. Small flat screen tv was more than adequate. The room had a fridge, which was a nice touch. The grounds are pretty - and the beach okay (I'm a gulf coast girl, so it's hard to compare any beach to the white sands of the Florida panhandle). One thing you need to know about the Hawthorne is that while all "view" rooms are the same rate, not all "view rooms" have the same great view. Ours was on the lower level off the parking lot, so our primary view was cars, then water. If you book a room with a view, be sure to ask for one on the upper level - preferably on the non-parking side. I give credit to the woman who checked us in, however. She graciously refunded our charges to the "non view" rate after we mentioned that we were disappointed at having to pay the same "view" rate for a lesser view. The wi-fi is at the Hawthorne is pretty weak (but free). The only place I was ever able to pick up a signal was right outside the office. However, there is a public computer available in the office/common area, along with a printer and fax. There's a common-area patio with one table that guests typically gather around in the morning to drink coffee and enjoy the great view. It's certainly a nice spot to visit and check emails if you need to, but it's also a "smoking area" as well. Smokers were polite and refrained from lighting up around other non-smoking guests, but parents with children should note that there was an ever-present pack of cigarettes and lighter on the table next to a half-full ashtray...some sort of smoking guest's amenity, perhaps. Good coffee and fruit (bananas, apples) were available every morning, which was nice. (If you don't like sweet n low or sugar in your coffee, you might want to pack some of your favorite sweetener). Overall a good place in a great location. Chatham has lots of cute shops and some excellent restaurants.

Yelp
We found this place just searching online for a nice place on the water in Chatham. We were not disappointed. The proximity to both the beach and the center of town were perfect. The peace and solitude were just what we needed. We didn't take the efficiency accommodations nor the water view, but we had no complaints about the room. The Hawthorne is worth a return trip.

Yelp
The Hawthorne has a terrific location in a charming Cape Cod community. We loved the area and it was nice to see the water each day, watching the fishing boats head out, enjoying the wildlife including seals and birds of many varieties. The hotel is nice enough but it is an older style without many of the amenities newer places have. It is clean with nice fixtures and furniture. Wifi was painfully slow. The rooms are non smoking but the smokers sitting outside our room made open windows not the way to go. The views are terrific. The location is wonderful. We would be happy to stay there again.

Yelp
My girlfriend and myself were looking for a romantic place for a getaway and found this place in chatham on tripadvisor. The place recieved good results so we booked it for our first vacation together. Kelly greeted us with a warm smile and a laid back personality. Our room was perfect and clean for what we were there to do. The location couldn't be better for what we wanted to do and see. They have a private beach in the back which was nice during the day and also at night to set up a couple of reclining beach chairs(which they have for you) lay back drink some wine and enjoy the stars. A short walk down shore road is the fish market where boats come in and drop off their catch. As a bonus a lot of seals frequent the water and it is a great place to take pictures. Next to the hotel is the chatham bars inn. I recommend not staying at chatham bars inn(overpriced meals, drinks and hotel) but using some of what it has to offer, like a walk up bar, across the street is a great spa but besides that go into the village to shop and eat. Also for breakfast go to the hanger b. The hanger b is located on a airport and you can take a 30min tour around chatham for $175 for 2 people. The pilot was jerry and he also let me fly the plane for a little while. With all this said the hawthorne is a awesome place and I highly recommend staying here in the dead smack middle of all chatham has to offer

Yelp
We have stayed at the Hawthorne three times and it has consistently provided all we wanted and more. The staff is very welcoming and helpful and they take great care to make your stay pleasant. What we like most is the cozy family feel of the motel. If your looking to step back in time with all the modern conveniences and the greatest view in Chatham then go to the Hawthorne!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of staying at the Hawthorne this past month and it is definitely the hidden gem of The cape. The view is absolutely breathtaking morning and night, and the location is nestled perfectly outside of the main road of town. If that wasn't already enough, the staff was so helpful and kind through my entire stay! David and Jessica were incredibly hospitable and even assisted me in planning out an itinerary for my stay in the Cape. If you ever have the opportunity to stay here I cant recommend the Hawthorne enough. Can't wait to visit again soon!

Yelp
Do you want a room on the beach where you can wake up & watch a 180* panoramic sunrise every morning? Do you want to rest & relax on a private beach with nothing but sun, sand & sounds of gentle waves. We paddle boarded, skim boarded & kayaked & walked the beach @ sunset. The best way for us to get around Chatham was on foot and we could easily walk to: beautiful Main St, Chatham Lighthouse, Friday night Band Concerts, weekly Cape Cod Baseball League games @ Veterans Field, Chatham Fish Pier, live theater, historic museums, restaurants & shopping. We loved that we rarely used our car & our whole family was able to unplug & truly unwind. Pristine grounds, clean rooms & very friendly management. 5 stars! The Hawthorne is our family's all time favorite vacation spot...we all loved staying here & we look forward to next summer!

Yelp
The Hawthorne was recommended by a friend and we are so happy we selected this hotel. This is the second night of a 4 night stay. Charming, clean and well appointed rooms. We booked the deluxe water view and have a view of the lush green lawn and ocean. Nice sitting areas, covered patio to gather and talk. Gil and Ellie are perfect hosts and you feel like you are in a comfortable home. Path to walk to beach and enjoy a walk on the beach. Close to shops, restaurants and this is everything you would want for a beach vacation location.

Yelp
Way overpriced for what you get. A tired room which needs major updating. TV is way to small for the room. The balcony they speak of is a common walkway with a couple of chairs. You can not leave your blinds open to enjoy the view as people are walking by all the time. The view is great as well as the location but the place looks as if they are sucking all the money out of the place they can until they sell it. Not enough parking as well. Maid service is a joke I was in the room when they spend no more than 5 min. Same sheets and a half made bed and a couple of fresh towels. Great area no doubt but they are living off of the location.
