How Baker Don Guerra Is Preserving Sonoran Heritage, One Bread Loaf at a Time - AFAR

"A Queen Creek mill about 90 miles from the bakery that mills regional grains used in local baking, supplying varieties such as Gazelle rye and the first locally harvested Einkorn crop that enabled the bakery to produce its high-protein, easy-to-digest Einkorn loaves." - Sara Button

If you're a baker and into artisan flours and if you bake with Hayden Mills products, or if you just like high-end pasta products, be sure to visit their Gilbert location. Today we snagged some pizza flour and some pasta. There were several local vendors set up outside in the lot as well with fresh baked breads, farm fresh veggies and such. Pics attached.

Grains grown on site in Queen Creek and Coolidge contribute a local staple of our central Arizona community. I spoke with James who is a lively, intelligent and caring farmer. Through his over 30 years of experience at this one farm, James knows how best to cultivate these beautiful ancient grains such as Sonoran White Wheat. Bryant helped fulfill my order of Wheat berries and was very kind and knowledgeable regarding the flour mill operations. The gift the soil has to share is immeasurable in its benefits especially when seeded or malted first to unlock the full potential of the grains nutrients. I will be a repeat customer for sourcing quality grains locally to reinforce a special pillar of the agricultural community. Thank you for all the hard work the hands at Sossaman Farms and Hayden Flour mills produce for my bakeries needs! Happy New Year!

We arrived just in time to purchase freshly baked bread from Barrio Bagel & Spice! They share this location with Hayden and use their flour. Awesome

Great selection of whole grains and flour! I went there to get whole grains, but I'll be back for flour!

Google
Sincerely disappointed... we visited the Queen Creek location years ago (2017 I believe) and the store was so cute - lots of local foods (tea, olive mill products, etc) as well as home decor and kitchen items. We chatted with the owner - she was wonderful! I was so looking forward to visiting again. Last week, when we arrived at the Queen Creek location, I had to find someone on the property that informed me that the store had moved to Gilbert (no signage anywhere). The next day, we traveled to Gilbert. Stark contrast.... the 'store' is located in an industrial park next to the loading dock. It is now just a shelf in the lobby with products on it. Even though there were people working in the office area, no one bothered to come and greet us, no one asked if we needed help... you check out yourself using a QR code. I bought a box of pancake mix only because I promised my son but I wouldn't go back. It just felt like they really don't want your business.

Cute little farm store, selling flour and baking mixes, made from locally grown wheat, milled on site. Doesn't get any fresher than this. We bought pasta made at the store the day before. Prices are a bit high, you can check at their website before you go. Most products are $4 per lb. It is hard to find, I live close by and had no idea it was even there. If it wasn't for the chalkboard sign next to the road, we would have driven right by. If you go, the back of the building faces Sossaman Rd, it's the one that says Sossaman Farms on the back. The parking lot is dirt, you are on a working farm afterall. They also have very limited hours, so check before you go.

Pancake mix first rate. The waffle batter worked out great. I will be adding some malt powder and cinnamon to match my own recipients. Great work.

Yelp
I couldn't find the place.20)0!° I really wanted to check them out, but my navigation app had me going in circles. I can't leave a 5 star if I've never been there...

Yelp
Family-owned and run!! If you're a baker and into artisan flours you'll want to be sure to visit their Gilbert location. Today we bought some Wheat Berries and Polenta. There are recipes on the boxes as well as on their website. There were several local vendors set up outside in the lot as well with freshly baked bread and farm-fresh veggies. Per their website - The grains are grown using natural farming methods. They do not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or glyphosate, in efforts to protect not only the health of the soil and water sources. They do not add folic acid, bleach, enrichments, bromates, malts, or anything else to our flours. The whole grain is stone milled to naturally preserve the flavor and nutrients of the germ, bran, and endosperm. I did sign up to receive their emails for a $5 off first purchase. They have bulk buying days, and the last email I received was 20% off. I will definitely be a regular and will be trying my baking hand to make bread. I have made my own pizza so next time I will be purchasing their pizza flour. Monday - Friday 10 am-2 pm Saturday 9 am-1 pm Closed on major holidays.

Yelp
My wife found this company and we decided to check it out. We try to find companies that are local and family-run which this company is. The Grains are grown on-site at the Queen Creek and Coolidge location. We have not visited that location yet. There is everything from pasta, pizza flour, all-purpose flour and wheat berries to name a few of their items. A few local vendors are set up outside in the parking lot on Tuesdays with freshly baked bread from Barrio Breads (review to follow), and farm-fresh veggies. The prices are a bit higher but they offer a $5 off first order when you sign up and bulk buying days and  email discounts.

Yelp
Gotta give this place a 5+. Their customer service is great. The clerk was extremely knowledgeable and knew her products. She took the time to explain and didn't rush out the door. We tried a few different types of their flour and it's excellent. We even purchased some and sent it to my relatives out of state. What a difference when you deal with a business that cares about their customers thank you.

Yelp
The best flour! It makes the best bread and pizza. Everyone there is friendly and knowledgeable. Also recommend Barrio Bread, their sourdough is a real treat.
