Gets crowded in the afternoon/evening. Pretty small.

Heavenly Village Ice Rink

Don B.

Google
Beautiful setting but my skates weren't sharp so they slid and the ice got very bumpy quickly. Overall I had a good time because it was more about spending time with my wife having fun.

Google
Very nice. I really enjoyed this place. I recommend it to everyone. Very fun, but be very careful on the ice. Thank you for the service.

Google
It was one of the best activities for my kids at Lake Tahoe. They enjoyed it, thanks to the Heavenly Village Ice Rink. Location is great and the staff is friendly ☺️

Google
Went to the rink twice. During the day before 2pm, you could have it all to yourself and the ice is smooth like butter. For the evening session, it starts off with very few people, but as the evening goes on more people arrive and the ice gets bumpy as it usually would. They still cut off the amount of people on the ice, so it never felt crowded. Masks are required and everyone followed the rules. The setting is beautiful with the open air and string lights above.

Google
I'm spoiled because Northstar Village's ice rink is stellar. My recommendation, head straight to The Loft for the family friendly and the best most mind-blowing magicians and mouth-watering craft cocktails!!! ❤️

Google
tip!: go a hour before it closes (on a weekday lol) ! no wait time, no more than ten people on the rink. i hear you. 20$ is pricey and if you're gonna skate just for a hour, maybe that's not worth it. but i mean, IF your feet and leg starts hurting and getting tired after skating for an hour (which it does for me), so might as well do it when there's less people/of a crowd? my experience with my companion was a great one because in addition to there not being that many people, because we came 'late', the person in the front gave us a discount so we paid kids price (15$) instead of the adult price ! they also refreshed the ice one last time around the 19:00 timeframe so yes they were kind of in the way, but the ice was really smooth for the remainder of the hour (esp cus there's not that many people) and their music jams were on point ! even though it was just an hour, we didn't feel rushed at all; even when we were told to get off the rink at 20:00, a hour is more than plenty for us. it felt very relaxing and therapeutic to break a sweat from skating while feeling the cold crisp air with the winter lights and snow around us. great memory and experience for us :))

Google
You go here for the ambiance and location, not for the skating. It is conveniently located in the middle of heavenly village. But it is very small, crowded, and the ice is not in good shape. Even after grooming with their knock-off-miniature zambonie they ice is still rough and jagged. It is located feet anyway from the gondola, many restaurants, and shops. The lighting and ambiance during the winter does add some charm.

Google
Well managed crowd and a fun place to spend a bit of time. Worth the $20. Multiple pairs of the rental skates had issues with the laces. The skates could be a bit better taken care of for a better fit. Also, it seemed like they didn’t go over the ice between sessions so it was really bumpy and could have been better.

Yelp
The rink was well kept the staff was helpful and engaging. Not too busy for New Years Day!

Yelp
Great location in center of Heavenly Ski Village, close to gondola, shops and lots of restaurants. Nice to have option of either hockey or figure skates and skate rentals are included in price. Recommend getting there 15 minutes before skate time starts to get ticket and skates to allow you the maximum amount of time to skate. First 20 minutes of the skating session were the best as it wasn't overly crowded. Cons: TOO CROWDED! Small rink, packed with too many people. It would help if they implemented a limit of tickets sold for an allotted time of skating. They don't have skating aids / props to help beginners learn, but definitely don't have the space for it either. Lots of people using the rails on the perimeter of the rink to learn to skate.

Yelp
Very fun for the kids . There was a lot of people there . The only thing I wish they had was the walkers to help you skate . But other than that it was fun . We went next door and picked up a pizza at base camp and brought over to the seating area. There was lots of benches to sit down.

Yelp
Super cute rink with reasonable prices! $20 for adults and $15 for kids. The rink isn't huge but it's enough! The ambiance is really nice because it's always decorated for holiday season! They occasionally have this covering overhead, above the ice which is kind of ugly and low. If that was gone + a lil bigger I'd given them a 5

Yelp
Great little part of down town. Awesome place to shop, listen to live music, ice skate, and chill in Lake Tahoe!

Yelp
Great atmosphere and the staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and always willing to help. For An outsider rink the ice is very good. And the rental skates are surprisingly good. A must do while in Heavenly Village!

Yelp
Came for the skating, stayed for the staff. Spent 4 days in Tahoe to learn snowboarding but ended up spending every single minute of my free time here. The staff were the best part- extremely kind people who helped me learn some new tricks on the ice. Don, the owner of the rink, is a retired professional figure skater and helped coach me through some important basics for free. (Crossovers, one foot glides, inside/outside edges, etc.) They keep their rental skates in great condition and have designated lockers to keep your shoes safe :) I may be personally biased because I already liked skating but this rink had the best one of the most friendly environments ever and gave me a new passion for this sport. I would stay in Heavenly again just to be able to skate here again. I probably spent at least 9 hours in total here, sister had to drag me away from the rink lol
google avatar

Yelp
Such a beautiful rink! Loved the location and the staff were very nice! They were limiting tickets due to covid, but thankfully you can go up and purchase tickets for the next day to guarantee your skate! The only thing that would have made it better was if the ice was smoother, it was very cut up, but we went the last time a lot of the day. Not sure how often they groom it.

Yelp
Started our spring break w/a visit to Tahoe. Small skate area with no buckets or anything to help those who are beginners and just learning. It's pricey but expected as it's the center of a tourist area $20 for over 12 years old and $15 for under 12 for 2-hours of skating. My issue was with the employees. An elderly man was at the ticket booth and was very grumpy and rude. I had to go up to the booth a few times and he had his mask around his neck, was eating while taking money and another time was coughing all over without anything covering his face. Grossed me out as we are still in a pandemic. I gladly paid the high price and would have a appreciated some manners and gratitude for supporting the business especially in this highly traveled location.

Kimberly M.

Yelp
The owner is husband and wife. They are very friendly and sincere. We went back to ice skate for a second time a few days later and the gentleman was very kind and we got to know him. It's a husband and wife business and he used to be a professional Ice skater. They are originally from the east coast. I would highly recommend this ice skating rink. Nothing is perfect, but the owners are great people.

Yelp
This place is really fun. Brought my daughters to ice skate while visiting Lake Tahoe and it's worth it. The workers are very friendly. I came twice and the second time I came it was the last night of our vacation. We got there 20 minutes before they closed so they were not accepting anymore people. Of course my daughters were sad but the elderly man in charge eventually let us skate for the last few minutes. Thank you sir you made that night for us.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. We took our kids out for over a week and THIS rink was their highlight so we went again. Don was great help and so patient with our kids. Recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Nice open space. You get to enjoy being outside and ice skating. We are still navigating a pandemic so are more comfortable in open spaces. My daughter had a great time. Very affordable. We skated all day for $15. That included skate rentals.
google avatar

J C.

Yelp
Nicely maintained rink and the owners are super nice. The kids loved it and so did I. Husband was able to get coffee and lots of seating around.

Yelp
The lady working the window was extremely rude. My three year old daughter wanted to go ice skating our entire vacation. We finally stood in line our last day at Heavenly Village Ice Rink. Once we got to the window, a very unhappy lady informed me "for insurance reasons" my daughter was too young to skate. When I asked why there wasn't any signs indicating height or age limitations, she asked me to leave. I find it a bit odd there were so many signs posted. One sign even read "No profanity". Yet, one couldn't be bothered to convey useful information such as age limitations. After reading all of the other reviews, I am happy we didn't get the opportunity to spend our money here. It seems many people have taken to Yelp with similar poor experiences at this place.

Fifi C.

Yelp
As a competitive hockey player for 7 years, the quality of these skates are an absolute safety concern. Owner was rude and mocked me when I informed him that the skate blades badly needed to be sharpened. Overall, I would advise this place at all costs, it is badly operated and the staff/owner there has no incentive to make the place safe and better for anyone.
google avatar

Jenna P.

Yelp
Great value and the kids loved it- $15 for kids including the skates, $20 for adults. They resurface the ice every 3 hours or so. The rink is great for kids and beginners and is a good value as you can literally skate all day if you wanted too. You can come and go all day. They play fun music while your skating too!
google avatar

Kristen D.

Yelp
This was the highlight of our family trip! The ice is well maintained and the owners are very friendly.
google avatar

Amy A.

Yelp
Perfect place for little ones to learn or for a first timer. It does get a little crowded towards the evening but your wristband is good all day, so we would go after lunch and then again in the evening to make it worth it. The skates are included in the rental, the lines are short, there are no time limits or number limits. There are rules against people skating fast and rough housing but sometimes that doesn't get enforced in the late evenings during the holidays when it's super crazy. They are really friendly and for $15 for kids under 13 and $20 for adults unlimited all day, you can't beat that anywhere else.

Yelp
I am surprised by all the poor reviews. Attended in the first week of January this year. It was lovely, nicely taken care of and absolutely popping. Felt like everyone in Heavenly migrated there. We skated day and night ! I'll be back next year.

Lauren H.

Yelp
Hey y'all, it's Lauren, don't freak out! My friend Michael and I came out to the Heavenly Village Ice Rink and I gotta tell you, it's Heavenly alright! I hit my noggin on my knee cap while I attempted a 16-twirl-pirouette-flip and I thought I saw Heaven! Aha! The people here are angels and I can't wait to come back here and attempt my 17-twirl-pirouette-flip. One little confusion happened when Michael ate the yellow snow, he thought it was apart of a snow cone experience that was happening over yonder. Silly guy!
google avatar

Anastasia S.

Yelp
This skate rink is a joke. Yes, it's $20 for all day with a skate rental but the skates are very poor quality/have been used so many times they are very warped and hurt. - tried several pairs. Beyond that. - rink is not well maintained abs super small. Spend your money elsewhere - like the pizza place next door.

Yelp
Friends and I came here because the beginner skiing terrains were closed that day. Prices were great at $20 for the entire day (even tho we skated for about an hour and didn't go back). It's a little crowded with lots of kids falling on the ice and some adults playing tag (weird). They also have a wall around the edge to hold onto if you are a beginner at skating. It seems like they smooth out the ice every couple hours. We went on right after they finished so it was real nice and slippery at first but quickly became very carved up since there were so many people and its pretty small. Would still recommend though if you're in the area and want something fun to do!

Shawna L.

Yelp
I'm not sure if this place is under new ownership. I've been here several times over the years and have never seen it so run down. First of all the owners/ staff are super grumpy, won't engage in answering questions politely, absolutely no help with sizing ice skates and nothing to help little ones skate so our two year was left out this year. Next let's get to the ice...oh wait what ice, you'd have more fun putting on some floaties and swimming, the ice was melting everywhere so bad that the middle of the rink was a puddle. When your kids fall they are completely soaking wet. Price is high for what it is currently, didn't mind paying their prices before when the rink was maintained. In conclusion we wont go again sadly.

Yelp
My youngest daughter took an ice skating lesson with Ms Megan. She had such a good time that we ended paying for additional lesson time with her. The line went pretty quickly and both the person taking money and the person renting skates were nice. I feel fortunate that we were there before the peak season rush. I've seen it get fairly crowded and I'm not sure that would be the best time to skate. I like that there's a little ledge where you can stand and watch people skating if you're not on the ice. The fact that you can go back all day is also a great bonus that makes the skate and rental fee worth it. I appreciate the ambiance they created with the lights!
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Absolutely rude staff. Waited in line for abt 30 mins, to be greeted by an extremely rude elderly lady. Wouldn't answer questions, then proceeded to give me attitude when i said my daughter was "almost 4". She proceeded to get attitude bc kids have to be 4 to skate, but its not posted anywhere. Instead of being polite, she rolled her eyes and was a completely rude individual. Apparently a tourist trap requires people to research online online....

Yelp
My bf and I went to Tahoe for Valentine's Day. I'm too afraid to ski or snow board so most of our trip was just going to be us eating. My bf convinced me to go ice skating so we decided to check out the ice rink at Heavenly Village. Before going I checked their website for prices and hours. According to their website the ice rink closes at 8pm. My bf and I headed out to the rink. We paid for parking and walked to the rink (it was 5:54pm) only for it to be closing at 6pm. I was a little disappointed but in actuality glad I didn't spend $20 to willing injure myself. The rink was so tiny too.

Yelp
There are so many great local small businesses to support but this is not one of them. I thought about whether to write this review but ultimately decided to write it - not because I didn't get a refund -because of their attitude and how sad it is in our society when some people treat others so poorly. Our story: I paid for my three little kids and me to skate - $65. Expensive but we were on vacation and kids were excited. I did not look closely at the ice before paying. I laced all the kids skates up and then put on my own and when I went out on the ice I realized there were puddles of standing water everywhere. I ice skate once every 2-3 months at home, so when my skates started to slide I knew it was not normal and decided I didn't want to risk falling and hurting my back. The kids are kids and are ok with falling (they think it's fun and had helmets on) so I let them be. I nicely asked for a refund and the woman was completely rude, and said the wind would dry it up. (Admitting it was wet. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they had wet the ice down not that long before we got there as part of regular maintenance.) Another guy in the booth was also rude and said the ice was fine. I said I don't know why you're being rude, I'm not mad, I just don't want to get hurt and she said the sign says "no refunds". I said ok and walked away. 10 min later one of the employees attempted to mop up some of the water and then 10 minutes after that they sent a female employee who was like a professional skater (skating with one leg up in the air) onto the ice "to prove" it was fine. She skated around a couple times and then walked off and said loudly "ice is fine". At that time the ice had already been mopped and had started to dry from the wind and like I mentioned before, I am certainly not a professional skater. Overall, it's a cute, small rink for tourists but I would never support this business with my money again even if the ice was dry. I know there are so many other good people and great small businesses to support!
google avatar

Cristine R.

Yelp
Beautiful place to ice skate but kinda of pricey. I skated for less than 30 minutes so to me it wasn't worth it. I probably should've skated more longer to make it worth it but the skates really hurt my feet.

Michael G.

Yelp
I absolutely love this ice rink!! I came with my friend Lauren and we had a blast. We both suck because we can't ice skate but I'm glad i came with her.
google avatar

Jenny D.

Yelp
Super judgey and rude for people who are supposed to cater to families. We had some time to spare so I considered taking the little ones out for their first skating experience. Given it was a weekday, there was only a couple other people on the ice so it was the perfect opportunity to let them frolic around. The woman who was manning the booth acted like I was a piece of rif raff who didn't know how to raise my kids since I dared ask about getting my two year old on the ice. I guess I just expect a more welcoming tone from people in Tahoe since locals are usually really nice. Don't waste your money here. There's probably a better place in town where they encourage you and your family to skate. For $20 a person the least they can do is try to take my money.
google avatar

Natalie W.

Yelp
Owner is extremely rude. She specifically said they do not like "hockey people". We are in Tahoe for a hockey tournament for our kids and brought her 20 paying customers. Unacceptable.
google avatar

Dean M.

Yelp
The rudest and most disrespectful people run this rink. Harassing kids because they "don't like hockey players" "We know how they can be" we brought a team of kids who were following the rules and behaving but were treated poorly by the rink owners. Pathetic business practice harassing and insulting you customers. Don't support this place!
google avatar

Cindy D.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the beautiful lights and ambiance. I took my 10 year old son skating here during the holidays. This ice rink was very crowded and the ice was so lumpy it was unsafe. I can't believe they let people (especially kids) skate in such dangerous conditions. In the end, we only stayed for 15 minutes. $30 down the drain and they don't carry half size skates. Save your money and time; go elsewhere!
google avatar

Bike R.

Yelp
Don't do it. The skates are old, crummy and warn out. They wobble like crazy and hurt your ankles. The ice is not groomed at all. Lots of jagged edges and grooves. They have big no refunds sign for a reason.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
We were a little skeptical given the poor reviews. We were pleasantly surprised to arrive Friday afternoon to a freshly groomed ice rink with just a few other people there. My girls age 6 and 3 had a great time. The ice was super smooth and my daughters had a great first experience ice skating. The nice lady at the counter said they have had the zamboni since they opened and they groom the ice three times a day. We had a nice time and will come back. Dont let a few crabby people persuade you from going, especially if you have little ones.

Itza O.

Yelp
Really good service, the men at the register were super friendly and accommodating. My little one and sister had so much fun
google avatar

Rodney G.

Yelp
First time going to Tahoe had a great time visiting this skating rink veterans be sure to ask for discount
google avatar

Ash M.

Yelp
Cool place to take the kids. I wish there was more heating seating for parents to watch the littles though. $15 for the wristband and it's an all day pass. Came back after kids ate dinner and skated more.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
We were here the first weekend in March. The reviews that say there was no Zamboni and the ice is rough are apparently older reviews; they do have a Zamboni now, and they did close the rink several times to give the ice proper attention. I also noticed that they didn' t tolerate bad behavior. I brought my daughter here to let her try ice-skating. They have an instructor available (not cheap, $40 for 1/2 hour, but i guess that's pretty comparable) that you can hire, which I did. The teacher was wonderful, and after the first session, I ended up spending the money for an additional 1/2 hour so that my daughter could get more confident. I have now created an ice-skating monster. :) We ended up going back the next day to have more fun.
google avatar

Mz J.

Yelp
Much to our disappointment, the ski lifts closed because of high winds and what not. We decided to check out the ice skating rink. The sign said open from 10am-10pm. Yet, the whole ice rink was covered with a huge tarp. Ok...... so they WEREN'T open! We came back the next day and they were open. There was only a few people skating at the time. The ice didn't look smooth. There were fire pits and benches outside of the rink. I think it was like $20 for rental skates. And the sign said it was for the whole day. That's nice!
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Overpriced, and the owner / manager is a stickler for her rules, and not accommodating or friendly. I understand she probably deals with it a lot, but this is a customer service industry. My wife and I are good skaters and we came to the nearly empty ice rink because the city rink was booked for hockey games hoping to give our adventurous 2 year old her first taste of ice skating while holding mommy / daddy's hands. A fun activity when the snow sucks. We only planned on skating a while, but the only price option they have is all day, and $20 is a bit rich, but no biggie, it's worth it right? Not so much. My wife and our Au Pair share the same size skates, and since we also had an infant with them, only one would be out on the ice at a time. So we asked if they could share the skates and take turns. No can do. Okay, so now it's $75 for an hour of skating... And the toddler, well... this isn't posted, but despite having adjustable skates of the right size, she doesn't allow youths under the age of 4. This is not posted. Easiest $75 I ever saved. Woman working the front was unapologetic, and cold as the rink. Guess we're just one more reviewer to think so.
google avatar

Maxine D.

Yelp
My kids love to ski and that's why we came to Tahoe, but this was by far their favorite activity we did! For $15 unlimited skating, with rentals, excellent music and beautiful setting, you can't beat it. We will definitely be back and came twice in one week. It is also ran very well, with little to mow waiting.
google avatar

Rick K.

Yelp
This was a really fun place to go with my 4 kids super close to the hotel. I would highly recommend it.
google avatar

Trish S.

Yelp
Great daily price especially if you have kids. You can come back after they take a break, eat, or nap. Employees here were very friendly. It was nice coming here, made the holiday even more special.
google avatar

Trevor S.

Yelp
I'm from down south San Diego but I've lived in the bay for a good two years too. I've been to ice rinks but I haven't found one that could top this rink. I took lessons years ago but to this day, I'm always learning something new. Morgan was the best teacher and she was the one who taught me the basics and everything. I have been to other ice rinks but I haven't found anybody as friendly and nice as Morgan. She's the one who got me get really into ice skating and she was always optimistic with everybody on the ice. Overall, to me this ice rink will always be the best to me out of the many rinks I've been too.
google avatar

Marie A.

Yelp
As previous yelp reviewers said, the people that work here are extremely rude. I won't elaborate on details because I think people have said it already but would advise people to save their money and go somewhere else. It's not worth your time to deal with the people that work here. Definitely not a family friendly buisness, which is weird being an ice rink and all.

Breana K.

Yelp
It's a good price for an all day pass ($20 for adults) and their skates are all mostly new. The staff are definitely rude like most of these other reviews say. The ice isn't maintained very well and towards the end of the night, it's covered in slush and super bumpy. It gets really crowded and it's a fairly small rink but it's worth it to just skate for an hour or two if you are in a hotel near by and looking for something to do.
