Hotel Hecht Appenzell

Older hotel with very modern bathroom. Byzantine hallways are confusing. Staff was nice. Room comfortable and clean, rather dated. View from room was of another old building, not attractive. Breakfast was ok. Location good in cute town.

Super cute hotel in a classic Swiss town. Amenities at hotel were great. Best sleep I’ve had on this trip and bathrooms were very nice. Hotel staff were extremely friendly and provided excellent suggestions. Would highly recommend staying here

Fine rooms and restaurant a few blocks from the train station on the main street in Appenzell. Helpful and friendly staff.

We stayed here one night on a group tour. The hotel is super cute and cozy. Feels like you are going to grandma’s house with baskets of toys everywhere. All the rooms appear to be a different layout. Our room was HUGE. The bathroom was very big even with the odd chair inside. Our unit faced a courtyard so luckily no one was smoking or talking out there while we were trying to sleep. Now about the bed. It was hard as a rock. Very uncomfortable. I could not come back for that reason. The breakfast too was big. They just had usual cold items. You could boil eggs to your liking.

Lovely quiet hotel in great location. Service was wonderful and friendly. Loved walking around the hotel and looking at all the pictures and unique knick knacks. Great breakfast. The noon check out was welcomed. We were able to get a lovely breakfast then take our time packing and readying to leave. Quiet room. Opened the window for a light breeze and beautiful church bells!

This hotel was booked by our tour (Rick Steve's). I can't figure out how it gets 4.5 stars. It doesn't have air conditioning, which is really bad in August, but pretty typical for much of Europe, especially in the old town. But not having a fan is just ridiculous. I mean, I know the Swiss are known to be cheep, but a fan casts maybe $50 max? The church bell just rang for the first time since we got here, and it is very loud, but with or without the church bell, I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight on the 4th floor (5th floor by American standards) 85 degrees, no breeze. I'm sitting here sweating doing nothing. I even took a cold shower, and that helped for about 30 min. I hope the owner reads these reviews and breaks down and buys some fans! I'd probably give it four stars if I had a fan. |This is the morning after. Although I was still sweating at midnight, I did fall asleep and didn't awaken until 6am when the church bells woke me up. So I got a better night sleep than I expected. I still think it's extremely cheap of them to not buy fans, but we were told they are always full, so no reason to make their customers more comfortable.

Had a really nice stay. Large rooms, very clean, friendly service, modern rooms but still character in the building , historical features , …. Very good value for the money, reasonably priced for Switzerland, felt higher than a 3 star hotel

A comfortable, well located hotel in the heart of Appenzell. This is not a fancy hotel. Our room was a large 2 room suite that was clean and quiet. Breakfast was on the sparse side. You could soft boil your own egg but other than that there were no hot entrees. It was mostly cold cuts, cheeses and breads. There is no air conditioning so, as it was slightly warm when we visited. We opened the windows. There was paid parking only in public parking lots if you are driving as| we were. The building has an unusual layout.||

Room was clean and very large compared to the other hotels I've stayed at around Switzerland. The town is quaint and nice. However, I rated the room 2 stars because the church bells rang all night. I couldn't sleep. The rooms were so hot without fans or A/C so you needed to open the windows to let the cool air in. But when you open the windows the church bells were so loud you couldn't sleep. Oh and I almost forgot, no coffee in the rooms.

I just checked out for 2 rooms w/ my family yesterday and can't help but to give a positive feedback for this hotel. Although the elevator can be a bit complicated for some people, there're many other plus points in this hotel, thus my 5-star ratings. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean & big, the hallways are cute. Every floor only have 2-4 rooms so it's very private & quiet. Location is strategic, not too centre but close to the train station & town centre. The bell church right across the hotel is loud and will ring throughout the night but I slept like a baby, so I'm not complaining. I strongly recommend this hotel over Romantik Hotel Säntis. I've seen both hotels and personally think this hotel has more modern feel interior & more quiet area compared to the other one, minus the spacious lobby.

I recently staid with my friend at this hotel and were very happy with our choice. This hotel has been recently renovated. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff are friendly and the location is in the center of town. The room night included their breakfast buffet which had a large selection of items to choose from and definitely kept us full well through lunch. It was more like a brunch. I was surprised by the quality of the breakfast buffet as the hotel has no restaurant. The owners of this hotel also own another hotel in town, ROMANTIK HOTEL SÄNTIS. A surprise bonus is that for each night you stay at Hotel Hecht Appenzell you get a free drink coupon to use in the bar at the Romantik Hotel Santis. Very cool.
