Hedley House Hotel

We had a fantastic overnight stay and would highly recommend it. The rooms were spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable with quality toiletries and soft towels. The room decor might look a little dated but this is the only thing about this hotel that I would suggest could be improved. The hotel looks unassuming and understated from the outside but is a real gem, from the location, the daily yoga classes to the garden area, hot tub and wellness treatments as well as the off road parking. The staff were just lovely, helpful and friendly. The common areas were smart, welcoming and comfortable. The breakfast menu was varied, made to order and a choice to suit everyone. The location is perfect for walking into town - less than ten minutes and was easy to access by car. I can completely understand why guests return here. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.

Firstly the positives: Location excellent for city centre and train station and in a less noise than centre. We booked a deluxe room and all the little extras were very welcome. Staff helpful - we got soaked through on first night and they dried out our clothes in their dryer. Good selection for breakfast but we booked direct which seems to be the answer to get all options. Negatives: The radiator in our room didn’t work (hence why we couldn’t dry our clothes in the room). We reported it on the first morning and by the time we left 3 days later it still wasn’t working. Luckily enough the weather was mild but it was November so easily it could have been very cold. The room was supplied with a comprehensive information book in which it stated that home cooked evening meals were available every evening except Saturday. Although it recommended to book a table in advance it also stated it wasn’t a necessity. We wanted to eat in the hotel on our last evening so enquired about booking a table the evening before and was told to book in the morning. So the following morning we asked to book a table and were told no…..it wasn’t available that night!!!! We had wanted to stay in that night so that we could celebrate my husband’s birthday as we had spent the last two nights in wet weather. Luckily enough it didn’t rain that night.

My sister and I really enjoyed our one night stay at the Hedley House Hotel. The reception staff were friendly and very helpful with directions around York and to the Barbican (where we were attending a concert). The hotel was very comfortable, clean and tidy. Our twin room was lovely. And it was only a short walk to the train station which we discovered on our way back (a shortcut shown to us by one of Hedley House team!). We would highly recommend this hotel.

Upon arriving on Saturday we was allowed to park our car from midday and found our room was ready to be able to check in early. Excellent staff to explain all you would like to know and very accommodating. The room was amazingly large with a huge bed. Bonus was having a bath/shower. Lovely outdoor area at the back to relax with a drink. Was only a 10mins walk to city wall. Brilliant price for york on a Saturday night. Cheapest we have stayed but the best. Thank you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had a fantastic stay at Hedley House Hotel. Booking direct offered a better price, and the communication throughout was excellent. The service was outstanding from start to finish. We received such a warm welcome on arrival — the receptionist was exceptional, and your son was so lovely when we checked in later that evening. You can clearly see how hard the staff work across every part of the hotel. The breakfast team were also incredibly friendly and helpful. We felt so comfortable during our stay and will definitely be back. Highly recommend .

What a welcome! nice friendly reception staff plus an unbelievable aroma of freshly baked chocolate cookies!|Room was excellent, spotless and added bonus of a full bath with quality toiletries. Loads of Tea and coffee with biscuits in the room. Excellent nights sleep!|Breakfast choice was great and good quality produce, superb fresh coffee too! Again staff were friendly and helpful.|Location is great just a short 8 minute walk and you are at the Minster or in The Shambles. |Will definitely book again when we next visit York.

Having seen the excellent reviews for the Hedley House Hotel on TripAdvisor, I booked an overnight stay for myself and a friend as we were going to see ‘Sunny Afternoon’ (‘The Kinks’ musical) at the Grand Opera House in York. The hotel is 5* in every way, from original booking, room being ready before normal check-in time, beautiful room, lovely friendly and professional staff😊 After walking round York in the afternoon we made the 10 minute walk from the city centre to the hotel, and then we made the most of the hot tub, followed by a delicious 3 course dinner last night with excellent wines. Bar with relaxing lounge. Super night’s sleep and yummy breakfast this morning. My friend booked a massage for after breakfast (selection of massages) which was brilliant. I cannot recommend the Hedley House Hotel too highly and most certainly stay here again.

Our second weekend stay at Hedley House Hotel and it just gets better. Spotlessly clean rooms, friendly staff, a great breakfast and if you get chance to have an evening dinner then you will not be disappointed. An excellent hotel thats very close to the centre of York. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Short version: Poor customer service, dismissive and arrogant management. Long version: After calling the hotel before our stay, it was explained that we wanted to be able to leave our car (ours and my wife's parents) at the hotel until 3pm the following day due to the booking being a gift for her elderly parents who find driving in York confusing. This was an essential requirement, and the whole reason we called to check, and purposely booked this hotel over others. On check-out, we were told that we would have to move our cars by Greg (who it later emerged was the owner of the hotel) who was very dismissive and arrogant in his approach insisting that the telephone conversion didn't happen, and would never have happened. We feel very aggrieved that they took our booking for 2 rooms on a false pretence, when this was an essential factor in our booking and clearly explained in our conversation beforehand, without any form of apology or sympathy.

Every thing you could wish for. helpful staff, excellent food, convenient for every attraction that York has to offer.Plenty of off road parking.The standard of our room was excellent,all the furnishings were clean and comfortable especialy the bed. WELL DONE.

I adore York, and i adore this hotel! In a perfect postion for all the wonderful attractions York has to offer, this family run hotel has everything we needed, included an outdoor jacuzzi! The rooms were well furnished and comfortable with a great en-suite. I hear they even have one room with a TV in the en-suite...must try that next time! Breakfasts are perfectly cooked with a great selction of cerals etc. and a nice choice for your cooked breakfast. A very handy car park kept our costs down and we cant wait to return! We definately recommend this hotel.
