If you’re in Heidelberg, the Heiliggeistkirche is an absolute must. From the outside it’s striking—gothic architecture with red sandstone, soaring spires and a baroque roof that really dominates the Altstadt. Inside, it’s calm and atmospheric. There’s a quiet beauty in its simplicity; large high ceilings, stained glass windows, just enough decoration to feel sacred without being overwhelming. Definitely a place to soak in some history, architecture, and quiet — I’d return just to watch light playing through the windows

The Church of the Holy Spirit (German: Heiliggeistkirche) is the largest church in Heidelberg, Germany. The church, located in the marketplace in the old town center, was constructed between 1398 and 1515 in the Romanesque and Gothic styles. It receives 1-3 million guests annually, making it among the most visited churches in Germany.

It’s very big church, most of the church in Germany will be rich with art work. This not the same . Still its construction is good. Not crowded when I visited on Tuesday. Lot of restaurants are close to it. It’s located very close the riverside

Spent 45 minutes in quiet reflection of what the cross of Christ means - watching the slowly turning multi-coloured glass cross. The more understated decorum inside the church, with high ceilings and stained glass windows, creates a more engaging atmosphere.

Really cool architecture and great view from the castle. You can go inside, but we did not have time. No shortage of stuff to see.

Visiting Heiliggeistkirche was nice on the way of the shopping street and marketplace. The light through the stained glass made the whole space calm. I didn’t clim the tower but it’s highly recommended to see the old town and river spread out below. The church isn’t flashy but it carries a quiet beauty that stayed with me long after I left.

Yelp
Completed in 1515 (think about that), this is the oldest church in Heidelberg. Of course the oldest church in Germany is in Trier. Nice church with baroque and gothic elements. Another nice church to visit while in Heidelberg, and is conveniently located.

Yelp
Walking in the pedestrian zone this church caught my eye down an alley way. The platz in front has some very nice, picture worthy, architecture. Inside you'll find vaulted ceilings, stained glass and tombs. A quick look around or an in depth exploration it's an easy stop while in Heidelberg.

Yelp
Absolute must see in Heidelberg. The tower dominates the old city and for around €2 you can go all the way up to enjoy a spectacular view of the city including the old bridge and castle. It is a dizzying climb in a tiny tower and it gets shorter as you ascend. Some difficulty if you run into a group going the opposite direction because the tower stairs are maybe 3 ft wide. The interior of the church is lovely with high ceilings, stained glass, and organ pipes. Tourists are very welcome to visit and sit. For a donation you may light a candle and pray or just as a token of appreciation. Surrounding the outside are little tourist shops built into the church and the plaza is all bars and restaurants offering spectacular views of the castle. Weekends the surrounding plaza because a little market as well.
