The hotel has a very good location close to the centre. The breakfast is fantastic: big choice and tasty food. The disappointing thing is the room. The photos are very far from what we got. The room is less convenient than what you expect even from the 3-star hotel. I was also surprised about the parking: we had to park in the city parking (with discount) even though on the booking.com the parking in the hotel was advertised.

The size of the room was just so wrong! Service was terrible, we got yelled at at the desk, and our rooms didn't get cleaned for 5 days! When we asked, we were given some towels and 2 toilet rolls. They came the day before we checked out ... pointless. However, location was perfect. It was within walking distance to everything i.e., the shops, the buses and the light rail.

TL;DR: Amazing location, decent breakfast, but room privacy is poor and cleaning policy is hidden — left feeling the price didn’t match the experience. ⸻ Full Review: The hotel has some strong points, but also some frustrating drawbacks. Location: ★★★★★ – Couldn’t be better. Everything is nearby and easy to access. Breakfast: ★★★★☆ – Good quality and enjoyable. Rooms: ★★☆☆☆ – No fridge and the toilet door is a sliding type with a wide gap, which means very little privacy. Not ideal for comfort. Service: ★★☆☆☆ – Cleaning is only every second day or upon request, but this wasn’t mentioned anywhere on Booking.com or at check-in. We stayed two nights, and after our first day came back to find the room uncleaned. Only then did the receptionist explain the policy. A simple heads-up would have avoided the disappointment. Overall, I loved the location and breakfast, but the room setup and lack of communication about cleaning left me feeling the stay didn’t quite justify the price.

This hotel is really more of the hostel quality than hotel. The rooms are spartan beyond belief. No face tissues in the bathrooms, one towel bar for 4 towels. Shampoo and hand soap are the same. The shower door is so small water splashes all over the floor. The tile work was new and very nice. The room was small with no closet and a weird jumble of coat hooks by the entry door. The in room coffee didn’t even have a spoon or stir stick. The small table and two bedside tables made IKEA look like a luxury brand. The main celling light in my room was a bare bulb with a Chinese lantern shade over it. The entire room and corridors are painted a grey color reminiscent of a mental hospital. The main entry had a front sensor that worked intermittently. The reception desk is squeezed into the dining room and also has a beer tap on it. The breakfast was ok, but super crowded. My room was 23.3 degrees which for me was just right, although the thermostat was not functioning. For some reason there was a portable space heater in my room that was not plugged in. I was not bothered by noise from the street as some people reported. This place is nice for a hostel but way overpriced for a hotel

The hotel has a great location and a very helpful staff. However, there is a glaring issue they ignore despite the many reviews about it: the room is unbearably hot. There seems to be a central air conditioning system, but it is kept turned off. We requested fans and were given one with no power that only circulated hot air. I understand that Norway’s climate is mostly cold, but guest comfort during the summer must be considered. This is a detail that would make me not book a stay at Heimen again, especially because it’s a recurring complaint they seem to ignore.

The location was right at the centre of Bergen. It is close to major parks, attractions, waterfront and restaurants. Room was very hot. It’s like a sauna. We stayed here in May 2025 and it was an unpleasant experience. The other reviews here were true. Their rooms which are unnecessarily hot will make you uncomfortable. No one wants to fix it after advising the reception. Most of the reception staff are pleasant but there’s this one woman who seems to be aloof and distant all the time. It’s as if she’s not working in a hotel or in the hospitality industry. You need to be a people person when working in a hotel. Breakfast is decent. Good choices and several options. Our experience would’ve been much better if they took care of the heating system.

This hotel is centrally located but the location alone is not enough of a reason to stay here. The rooms are cramped and dark. The bathrooms are functional but bare bones. If you go in the summer, as we did, there is no air conditioning in the rooms. The rooms get unbearably hot. Also, I was traveling with two kids and reserved one of the rooms with bunk beds. They ended up moving us to a different room despite the reservation. The room they put us in didn’t even have a second bed for the kids. Instead, we got a room with a window seat to which they added a mattress pad and called it a bed. It was unacceptable and the hotel was unwilling to do anything about it. At the breakfast, I asked for ice and was told the ice machine was broken. The breakfast buffet is small and the options mediocre.

The other reviewers are not exaggerating, the rooms are unbearably warm, especially room 208 and 209- they must be over the kitchen or laundry or something- when you go up the steps to reach these two rooms, it is a heat wave. We kept the window open all night and our room was still 26C (about 79F). It is a shame that there are so many comments about this and the hotel has done nothing to rectify it. Also, with the open window- there is excessive street noise. Breakfast was good and location central (hence the street noise).
