So good! Casual spot for savory lunch or dinner followed by the best sweets! The spinach crepe was perfect for lunch (I only ordered one to save room for dessert… it was plenty!) Then the showstopper… a kaiserschmarren with stewed strawberries and vanilla cream! And good music too from Billie Eiliah to the Lumineers!

Heindl’s Schmarren serves excellent traditional Kaiserschmarrn, fluffy, well-caramelized, and full of flavor. The portions are generous, the atmosphere is cozy, and it’s a great spot to try an authentic Austrian dessert. Definitely worth a visit.

The desserts were good. But they were too much. Even if we asked to waiter whether two plates are too much for 2 people. He said absolutely no. And it was way too much. Plus, they were not nice and kind. 40 eur for 2 desserts is too much.

We went to have lunch there, based on the Google review. It was a cold day so staying on the terrace was not an option. The food was good and was served fast, but when we wanted to cancel the desert, it was not possible and they charged us for it. The girl greeting us at the entrance, dressed in Austrian attire was the only one that seemed local. The guys serving at the tables were unfriendly and seemed east European.

We arrived around 8PM Staurday. Almost Full house The young colleague was very kind and arranged a desk for us. The other waiter was very professional and managed the place very accurately! All we have eaten is only one big plate of traditional kaisersmaen. It was Ok. Nothing special. I would have used more butter but it was fine, It was better than expected :) We belive the almost €20 is high for this kind of food, but it's Ok. We wanted to try out and we were satisfied. We went to enjoy the Kaiserschmarrn a Viennese sweet meal. It was very delicious! The service was fast, the dining experience was nice and cosy..The waitress was very friendly. It was very quiet there wasn't a lot people! It depends on the season it gets full during the summer season.

Hidden gem in Vienna. Don't get your Kaiserschmarrn in one of the tourist traps near the church, go to this beautiful local gem. Friendly service and menu in English. Can make some dishes gluten free as well. Sorry for the "after" photo, the Schmarrn was just too yummy. I got two different ones in "taster size".

We were seated right away and the waiter asked if we were ready to order less than 1 minute from seating. The food was not that great and we ordered spatzle instead of potato's but we got potatoes. They were lukewarm. We then had to go to the entrance to pay for dinner. Very disappointed since the restaurant had so many good reviews.

This is one of the restaurants that gives your an introduction to Austrian food. The dishes we ordered: Viennese ham and noodles casserole Au gratin Styrean roast chicken Styrean apple schmarren It was all delicious, the highlight is the Styrean apple schmarren

A unique experience but you need to try Schmarren or shredded pancake while in Austria. For an American pancakes and dinner toppings is interesting. They are more like a crepe than what we would think of as a pancake. Or you could go with pure breakfast options and it seems more like a dessert and traditional pancakes. Berries, chocolate etc. Asparagus is in season so soup, crepes and several other options available. Service was excellent.

Das Essen ist gut, man bekommt was man bestellt. Das Lokal riecht zu stark nach Küche und wird als Lagerraum genutzt, was es sehr ungemütlich macht. Der Service ist grottenschlecht, unfreundlich und unprofessionell. Wir mussten ewig warten, bis wir bedient wurden obwohl wir die einzigen Gäste waren und haufenweise Personal unterwegs war, die uns nur begrüßungslos schräg angestarrt haben. Besonders der blondierte Kellner ist an Frechheit kaum zu überbieten. Aber auch die anderen Angestellten vorne im Lokal sind unfreundlich, ignorant und respektlos. Wer sich schlecht behandeln lassen möchte und nach dem Besuch nach Fett und Essen riechen möchte - ist hier genau richtig.

Such a lovely experience! My husband and I split the chanterelle mushroom special with soup and had 3 crepes (strawberry, chocolate, and apricot) with ice cream for dessert. Our waitress Carolin was funny and swift and made sure our dish was prepared vegetarian. Such a wonderful dinner on vacation. Thank you!

They call these pancakes, Americans call these crepes and French toast. Definitely really delicious. The cheese covered pancakes are so good, but super heavy! For sure get the half size. Same with the skillet pancakes get the smaller portion! Unless you want leftovers. Our Airbnb had a refrigerator so we were able to save ours. We re-heated our I In a pan since our place didn't have a microwave. Thankful that the waitress spoke English but she did appreciate that we tried to speak Austrian. Make sure to have a reservation if you are eating here on a weekend night! Luckily we had one for Saturday night because I'm not sure if we would have gotten in without one. We went at 7 on Saturday night. The building is old and cute. The area is fun to look at and walk through. They catered well to our English-speaking selves. What I ordered: I got some apricot schnapps and wow- the was strong! To eat I got the France "pancake". It's more like a roll than a pancake, but I'm not mad about it! It was so yummy and filling. It was served with a yummy pickle salad. For dessert I had the apple pancake taster. The taster was a perfect size for one person. My meal was 17€ and that is a steal for the quality and portions! This place has a great selection of Viennese food! I would recommend it to anyone!

Outstanding crepes (called pancakes here) and kaiserschmarren (which is essentially thick chunks of pancake, topped with powdered sugar and dried fruit, and with some kind of jam sauce on the side). We got both the vegetable (with mushrooms, leeks, cheese, and an herb sauce) and Italian (with veggies, mozzarella, and basil) pancakes, both of which were great, although the vegetable one was our favorite. The kaiserschmarren is really the thing I'll remember most, though. Really an excellent choice if you're visiting Vienna.

Savory corn-based pancake was great; service was otherwise. I had high hope for this place because they offered a corn-made option for their pancakes and bread-based dishes. Since I'm gluten-free, that was perfect for me. I didn't know that I should just walk in and sit down. After the 3rd waitress passed me, I asked for a table. She was very rude, rolling her eyes and just waved her hand saying to sit inside. She made a big deal about it. A while later when another couple came in and did the same thing, she treated them totally different. I ordered a corn flour pancake with chilli meat (I forget the number). This was the highlight of the evening. US Americans will recognize it as a meaty Texan chilli because of the corn and beans. The single pancake was perfect for me. The waitress insisted I get a side salad which ended up having the same veggies as came on the side of my pancake--just smothered in tzatziki sauce. I also ordered the sweet pan #8 with chocolate, also with corn flour, as a dessert. It was a "small" but in fact very large! It came with a saucer of warm chocolate the consistency of pudding in the States. The pan was like a bread pudding with lots of fruit and nuts added in and not sweet at all. It looked tastier than it was. I ended up bagging most of it. Then I waited around for the check for ages. Even the other tables near me had issues calling for it. I had to finally get up and stand by the entrance to finally get my check. Next time (if there is one): I'll come with a local and stick with the savory pancakes.

Louis R is back in the building. Louis R loves pancakes, especially those filled with locally-sourced beef and locally-sourced cheese. This spot is known (known AF) by tons of people and reservations are mandatory...except for Louis R. Louis R walked in at 7:30pm, the cute bartender gave him an Austrian lager, he waited 13:46 minutes, got a table, no problem. Louis R loves his affable & attentive tanned waitress (dayum, she dope). Louis R loves the decor and vibe in this place. Louis R loves the size of the plates, enough for two beautiful people to share (yes, we are). Louis R loves the price-point of the meal/drinks, although, this is never an issue for him. Of Note: Louis R hates tourists from the US because they are impatient, uncultured and petulant when it comes to visiting European restos. Go home to your Waffle House/IHOP garbage, dirty Americans. Louis R loves this spot. Louis R, he's great.

Came here after reading other reviews on yelp and it did not disappoint. They had English menu and accept credit card. Service was good and friendly and food was fabulous. We ordered the smaller size after reading a review that the bigger size were too huge. So glad we both ordered the smaller size. We struggled to finish even that. Recommend this place if you are craving some pancakes both sweet and savory.

I had seen people lined up down the sidewalk for a restaurant claiming to have the best Wiener schnitzel... but Heindl's is where it's at. Their portion was sizable and delicious while at a reasonable price. The staff was very accommodating and friendly as well. English menus were offered which was nice.

Delicious food, terrible service. Young kid made us feel as if we were bothering him by being there. Would rather go elsewhere and skip the rudeness.

I had a small portion of Tyrolean Nuts Schmarren (with walnuts and cranberries) for breakfast which was already pretty huge and really tasty. The place itself is quite nice but service is not particularly good (even with the restaurant completely empty), the waitress seemed distracted and messed up with cash at the moment of paying.

If you're looking for carb overload in the best way possible, this place is perfect! It's known for various types of pancakes, both sweet and savory! I tried the Kaiserschmarren which is traditional shredded Viennese pancakes with raisins and powdered sugar. It was absolutely amazing. I recommend getting the chocolate sauce on the side for dipping - one of the best brunches I've ever had. The portion sizes are also ridiculously huge. For around 12 euros I got a HUGE pan. I hadn't eaten all morning, yet I still couldn't finish the dish.

Huge pancakes .... slow service! Coffee was good and came out fast but we were one of the first in the restaurant and still took about 30 min to get our pancakes. Don't come is you're in a rush but do come with a huge appetite!! Someone said it's a classic Vienna experience and I agree I got the Apple dessert pancake (No 4) and my friend got the chocolate

As per other Yelpers' recommendations, I went with the classic palatschinkenpfandl. It was the first time for me having this dish - it tasted like a cross between a pancake, French toast and a pforttijes. Very delicious! The palatschinkenpfandl is accompanied by a tart and sweet plum sauce on the side in a gravy boat. I think it makes a perfect brunch/dessert dish! I encourage anyone living or travelling to Vienna to try this, and to try this at this restaurant.

Dining date July 31, 2015 for lunch. Sat on the outside patio on a beautiful summer afternoon. The specialty of the house are the pancakes. The veal pancake was terrific, and the mushroom pancake with bacon pumpkin seed sauce was one of the best meals my friend has had in quite some time. English menu and English speaking wait staff were very helpful.

The pancakes were a mess, I ordered two and the sauce got mixed together on the same plate. At the end of it, I wasn't quite sure what I ordered/ate. Service was a bit slow despite not being very busy. The apricot milkshake was bomb though.

barcelona and vienna have one thing in common, it is hard to escape the tourist experience even when you try. we had an OK time but couldn't fall in love with their kaiserschmarrn, and i love me some kaiserschmarrn. service was friendly but the bowle disappointed for not containing any alcohol or maybe i became immune. probably stay off the bitten zentrum path if you want some decent food.

I had goulash in Prague which was gravy based. I knew the goulash here was different but I was not sure how. This seems to be cream and tomato based with a lot of paprika. Delicious!

We came for savory pancakes, and we were not disappointed! I follow a gluten free diet, so I came here/dragged my friends here since they have a pancake option made from corn flour. My boyfriend and I both got beef ones - his with the pumpkin seed sauce - and they were delicious. Really nice flavors and surprisingly filling. Prices were excellent, and given we were following up lunch with cake, we only got the one pancake serving instead of two.

We had Grüner Veltliner and crêpes for dinner during our first evening in Vienna, sitting in a nice outdoor area.

Another wonderful place with great food in Vienna. Especially if you have a sweet tooth, this is the place for you. I would advise going there for lunch trying one of the evergreen Kaiserschmarrn variations. A small pan portion should be enough for a decent lunchtime appetite. The atmosphere on the terrace in the side street around the corner was nice. Personnel was a bit clumsy and waiting time felt a bit too long, but this can be forgiven.

Enjoyed the set menu. I got wild garlic soup, a savory pancake with white asparagus and lime sauce, and a dessert pancake with creamy cheese and raspberries. The food was delicious and the price was good too. Service was good also.

Let's talk Kaiserschmarrn for a second here. If you're in Vienna for any extended length of time, you should get into Kaiserschmarrn. They're essentially a soft, fluffy pancake shredded to bits and served with powder sugar and some form of fruit preserves, typically stewed plums. They're REALLY good for breakfast, and this joint may just have the best Kaiserschmarrn there is. More than that, it has got a tremendous variety of them. Among the many permutations they offer, I find the Topfenschmarrn (soft, fluffy, mild of taste) plus sour-cherry stew to be the best combination, far superior to the typical Schmarrn with plum preserves you get elsewhere. I also like the one with apples and cinnamon sugar, though a large serving size of that one will put your pancreas to work some serious overtime. They do offer a small serving size (which is, more or less, what other restaurants pass as "regular" size), but the large is twice as much goodness for only two more euros, so that's the choice of champions. The crepes are very good, too. I had the one with ground venison with bacon and liked it a lot; it was generously furnished with meat and very tasty, with a nice tang to it. I also had a couple of baked crepes (one was ground beef with peppers, the other was ham and sour cheese cream), which, though highly enjoyable, were not as memorable as the venison. I also had a phenomenally good sweet crepe with Topfen, raisins, and vanilla sauce, which just about proved that you come here for the sweets, first and foremost. Service varies from barely friendly to friendly, but they have been very good for the most part. Paradoxically, it seems they are in a better disposition when the restaurant is busier. Outdoor seating is just decent; indoors, you get some nice music. Business hours are also fantastic, especially in the context of the Vienna late-night food scene. They also offer tremendous value, as their food is tasty and VERY plentiful for very low prices.

Great food, terrible service. We sat down and it was a full 10 minutes before we were asked if we wanted English menus. After that, it took 15 minutes of looking around before we got our orders taken. The food itself was quite good. The garlic chicken with potatoes was fabulous and the sweet corn pancakes with apple and cinnamon was pretty good, though more sauce would have improved the dish as the sour cherry syrup got a little old after the first few bites. The food gets 4 stars, the service 1. If you're here, don't be afraid to be a little rude as the service will likely not respond otherwise.

The waitress was rude and dissapeared several times for long periods. There were several people working but only two tables. We asked our waitress to describe something on the menu that we weren't familiar with and she rolled her eyes. The food was very mediocre. After asking for our bill and waiting 15 minutes to get it, the waitress had the audacity to ask us if we wanted to tip with our credit card or with cash.

Staff was very inattentive. No one even seemed interested in seating us. I had to ask after several minutes. That should have been the first clue. Maybe they were just short on staff but a simple acknowledgement would have done wonders. Service was SLOW and the food was nothing special. Very disappointing.
