The 8 Best Hostels in Barcelona (Updated 2025)

"I found HelloBCN to be a social hostel with staff who go above and beyond: they organize lots of events, arrange discounts for nightclubs, and offer a buffet breakfast for €2. There are many common areas with ping-pong and board games plus a kitchen, dorms with secure lockers and electronic wristbands for safety, comfy mattresses though basic metal bunks with no curtains, and female-only dorms." - Matthew Kepnes

Very happy with the price for the quality of the hostel. Similar to other hostels I've stayed in Europe recently at €10-15 less! The privacy curtain is a must for me and here has them. Small kitchen but adequate and you can use cooker and fridge. The staff were also helpful with a few problems I had. Good location too near Ramblas and the promenade along the sea front. It's a great city with amazing food, I need to spend longer here so I will be back!

Great hostel with great people. Lots of amenities and space. So happy I stayed here while in Barcelona! Close to Mont Juic and the beach, as well as great restaurants/bars and grocery stores. Easy to get on the metro to go into the city center areas as well. The dorms are cleaned daily and you are given your sheets upon arrival. Each bunk has a mini shelf, light, outlet, and usb port. You get a good sized locker that fit my 35L backpack, as well as there being room under the beds for storage. Your key is a fob, attached to a bracelet. It gets you in the front door, unlocks your room, and your locker. I really liked this style of key for a hostel! Made it very convenient and never felt like I lost it. They do a free pasta night every Tuesday, give out free shots most nights, pub crawl every night, and lots of other events. Great kitchen with large fridge space, stove, toaster, kettle, microwave.

My experience at HelloBCN was a 10/10! My friend and I volunteered there for about 2 months and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff were so welcoming and warm, very easy to talk to or ask for help, and the owner Danielle is an absolute gem! The hostel itself is always so clean and the place itself is extremely easy to navigate. And if you're traveling solo, no fear, you will meet SO many new faces in this hostel, I swear i had at least 50 new friends within the first 2 weeks of my stay! I couldn't recommend this hostel more, looking forward to going back again myself!

Terrible... There are loads of great Hostels in Barcelona, and any of them would be a better choice than this. The Internet drops out very often and the reply to this review is totally bogus. There is nothing to recommend about this place. I have asked Booking.com why this place is offered on their platform? The worst place I ever stayed I was mistaken in thinking it was a good place to stay. What a costly mistake that has turned out to be. My bag was stolen in 2 minutes from in front of the reception desk worker. He gave me the key to the luggage store on floor one. While I took the lift there and back, the attendant buzzed in two criminals on the controlled entry on the ground floor. They came in, grabbed my bag and left again in just over a minute 😨 Right in front of the desk attendant And the hostel did not care one bit. They had it all on video. They would not show me the video. No doubt wishing to protect the privacy of the robbers. The guy on the desk let the two guys in, saw that they looked like criminals because he told me that he thought they looked sketchy. He watched them come with no bags and leave with mine I had gone to the luggage store to retrieve my other bag on the 1st floor in the lift. I was gone for 2 minutes They got my bag with my passport, bank cards, mobile phone, purse, medicine, make-up, groceries... All sorts I had been due to leave Barcelona the next day, but the robbery changedy plans entirely The area around the hostel is full of thieves, a very low-grade area. There are huge roadworks so you have to walk around those to get to the hostel which is uphill as well I looked at the other reviews to see what other people had happen A lot of women have had a very bad at this place, so it is probably only suitable for men One woman is expected to sleep in a room with five men, it is very intimidating There have been occasions where men have acted very inappropriately in the rooms, and despite complaints by ladies, the hostel does nothing This is a repeated pattern over very many years and I am very surprised that Booking.com have this hostel on their platform Whether the guy on the desk was in cahoots with the two thieves he let in, I cannot tell - but I will say it happened very quickly right in front of him I find these hostel operators to be highly despicable. They demonstrate a careless indifference to guests well-being. Women particularly. Stay somewhere else. I am very sorry I ever went there. There are loads of great hostels, TOC, Creative Youth Hostel, St Christopher's.. I have stayed at loads and Hello BCN Hostel Barcelona is not trustworthy or nice

Google
What I liked : The room was clean. The building is secure. We rented a private room just to sleep in, and it did the job. In the shared kitchen, there’s a Brita filter in the sink to fill up our drinking water bottle. There’s a room to store luggage if we don’t have access to our room yet, and it’s locked. The common area is comfortable and welcoming. I didn’t like : I was already expecting it, but just know that the room is small. There were renovations/repairs/work that started one morning and were very noisy. One of the receptionists was cold and abrupt.

Google
I had a decent experience, hostel was clean, you can store your luggage if you arrive early or leaving late. Smooth checkin, decent options around but i was a bit annoyed with them not switching the Air-con though it being in the room and it was being controlled by the reception, when asked to switch on i was told off that as the heater is on they cannot which was super weird

Google
Overall it was fine but the people staying there were terrible. Also the front desk staff did nothing and didn’t care when I advised them about someone in my room doing disgusting inappropriate things while we were all in bed. Loud, dirty and not for anyone 35+ for sure. Hostel vibes ok, prob not that easy to meet others.

Great hostel to stay at! Facilities are clean and definitely are not bad. Feels a bit like a prison if I am completely honest, there’s no privacy screens for the bunks.

Yelp
Stayed in a 4 person co-ed room with 2 other friends. The watch system was great, that gave only allowance to your room and locker. The rooms were a bit small compared to other hostels I've stayed in, and had to ledges or side tables to keep your things. Bathrooms were relatively clean, although shower stalls were a bit small to maneuver around. The bar on the main floor was great. It cost only about 2 euros for a beer and 3 euros for a sangria. They also offered free breakfast every day consisting of bread, cereal, and muffins, along side some coffee and juice. The vibe was great though. Everyone was really friendly from the staff to the others staying, which made it a lot of fun to venture off to the pub crawls together. The front desk was also super convenient. You can get a sim card there, tickets to Parc Guelle and Sagrada Familia (a much need as you can't get in without advance tickets), as well as rentable beach towels. Overall, place is good for young travellers and worth staying.

Yelp
I have stayed in a lot of hostels all over Europe and I have to say this is one of the best. I booked a private room with an ensuite bathroom and my friend was so amazed with the quality that he insisted in taking photos to show back home. The hostel was really clean, there was no noise disturbance at night (except my mates snoring) and I always felt safe in my room. HOWEVER I did come across a man as I was checking who was claiming things had been stolen from him. This is always a worry with sharing with strangers but the security measures were adequate, its the guests who tend not to use them properly. Other than that though I found this place really good and I met a lot of interesting people in the bar. They also sell alcohol here for a good price and there are cans of lager in the vending machine so you can drink 24/7 if thats what you want! Another good thing is there are busy bar streets from the hostel to the city centre so you dont have to go anywhere dodgy. Stick to these touristy streets though as there was one night my friend and me stumbled across an intimidating hooker lined street. If you dont want to stray far from the hostel at night, there is a fab bar just around the corner with beer taps on every table so you can drink away and pay the tab at the end. This bar also does fantastic food and I would recommend the burgers, I had the club burger twice (disgusting when you see it!) and its so big you cant get it all in your mouth!

Yelp
My friends and I paid €26 for three nights here in a room that slept 8 people. It was very near a metro, clean and the other guests were very respectful. Lots of restaurants and bars near. Not sure what someone else said about it being in a "bad" area. Me and my female friends felt perfectly safe at all hours of the night and didn't see any crime. The area is not very touristy though and the folks in the neighborhood are just regular people. Totally not unsafe or "bad," though.

Yelp
Great place, this, and in a good location. Low prices and high standards make it worth checking out if you're heading through an otherwise very expensive city. Breakfast is included, as is free wi-fi or internet on a handful of PCs in the rocking bar. There's also a small gym on the first floor! Staff were excellent and security is good with your keycard only giving you access to areas you're meant to be able to get to.

Yelp
Really nice hostel. Four stars because of the amount of street noise. It's pretty loud at night but in May it was too hot to shut the window. They have activities every night, offer recommendations and maps, speak English and Spanish, provide sheets and a locker for a €10 deposit which is returned. Right by the metro and a 15 minute walk to the port. Check out by 11am. €1 dinner offered some nights. Complimentary breakfast is toast, cereal, coffee, and fruit. Dairy free milk available. One night dinner was completely vegan and very tasty. Wifi kept disconnecting but overall it was fast. Computers available but not printing. Good restaurants within a 5 minute walk.

Yelp
Fun. The people working here are fantastic, and there's always something to do. Large common area where you can hang out and throw back a couple of beers with other travelers. Clean. Large lockers in rooms. It's one of the bigger hostels I've stayed at. Dorm-style bathrooms with several showers that we didn't have to fight over for. Breakfast = toast and other buns with Nutella. Orange juice. Milk. Convenient location - lots of public transportation. Not too far away from and yet not too close to Las Ramblas. Area's a little shady, but not in the mugging sense. If you are female, you will get whistles and hollering. There was a security issue when we stayed there. Even though there's a door code and a door person, it's not foolproof. A woman was using her laptop in the common room, turned her head to speak to someone, and it was gone. These folks are STEALTHY. They snuck in with a group of unsuspecting backpackers and grabbed it. Here's a clue that's applicable for traveling, in general. Don't leave your belongings unattended for even a SECOND. The large window makes it so that anything going on in the lounge can be easily spotted from the outside, and they were probably watching the woman very closely with her laptop before they snuck in.

Yelp
Stayed here in my way back to the states. By far one of the cleanest hostels in Barcelona. I would recommend it and the AC was great. Friendly people and the pub crawl was pretty cool

Yelp
Loved this hostel! The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are nice. 3 stalls on each floor and 2 showers for the women's ( I assume it's the same with the men's). The people are all friendly but not annoyingly so. There's a fridge to store your food. Personal lockers that lock. Also your key pretty much like a watch which makes its super easy to have on and hard to loose. You can rent towels and beach towels. Love!

Yelp
After having spent a week at Hostel Rossio in Lisbon, I found that HelloBCN was comfortable, but slightly worse in every way -- more expensive, smaller lockers in the room, much noisier, less reliable WiFi, etc. My main concern was the inability of the staff to provide good customer service. Some examples: - My wife is gluten intolerant. Literally everything they offer for breakfast is wheat-based. I spoke to the folks at the front desk about it. They said there was nothing they could do, but would leave a note for the manager the next time she came in. Nothing changed. Bananas and eggs are both incredibly cost-effective ways to provide gluten-free options, or a teeny tiny refund for the cost of breakfast would have been appreciated. Nothing. - At the end of your stay, you must bring your bedsheets down to the desk with you. I saw one guest bring her blanket as well. The woman working the desk said to her, "Oh, we don't wash those. Can you do me a favor? Can you go put that back in your room? Otherwise I have to go around looking to see which room needs a blanket." Here's an idea, chief: write down her room number! - One morning, the gentleman who was in charge of breakfast was sound asleep at his post. As he napped, various offerings were depleted -- orange juice, milk, cereal, etc. A staff member from the front desk walked by to get some coffee, laughed, said "You need to get more sleep!" and went back to the front desk. HelloBCN, you guys need to hire some staff who actually give a shit.

Great place to stay! Breakfast and all. Near everything in the city. I love Barcelona!

Yelp
Cheap and nice hostel. Just 4 stars, because it's located in a bad area.

Yelp
A great place to stay in Barcelona! We were lucky enough to be a party of 4 so we have a 4 bed dorm to ourselves. If you were on your own, you would definitely get to know your dorm-sharers well, as these are small dorms but the staff are super friendly, facilities clean and they always have trips/excursions/parties organised to get involved with. The bathrooms are great BUT in the centre of the floors with heavy doors, so make sure you bring ear plugs, OR take ample advantage of the mojito bar downstairs!
