We knew about the reputation of this library, but visiting it in person was still surprising. The institution serves as inspiration for how a library should function as a community and social center. Everyone, young and old, rich and poor, well-read and simple, can find something to do in the library. The library is not only for reading and borrowing books. There are also work tables, 3D printers of all kinds, tables with sewing machines, and meeting rooms of all sizes, from small boxes for quiet individual meetings to larger meeting rooms for about 20 people. There are also game rooms, cafés and children's corner. The visit was very pleasant and encouraged us to sit down in an armchair with a coffee, a cinnamon bun, and a view of Helsinki. All libraries should learn from Oodi.
