"Where Homemade Goodness Overflows Your Plate You've strolled the 1.5km of Istanbul 's famous Istiklal Street for a spot of shopping, but hunger sets in and the purse strings are tight. Where do you go for a bite to eat? Answer: Helvetia, a modest lokanta (restaurant) tucked away on a quiet side street in Tünel. With its relaxed, no-frills atmosphere, this place is a local favorite for lunch and dinner. The food is deliciously fresh, generously served, and an excellent value for money. Plates overflow with homemade mezes featuring Turkey's home-grown produce—olive oils, yogurt, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, spinach, kofte, chicken, and more. Choose among the mostly vegetarian mezes by pointing to the dishes lined up on the counter near the open kitchen. To get there: Follow the tram line on Istiklal to the Tünel funicular (tram) exit. With your back to the funicular exit, see a book shop on the other side of the road. Just to the left of this shop is the Tünel Pasaj, a pedestrian arcade lined with cafes and shops. Walk through the arcade to the end. You will see Helvetia on the corner as you exit the arcade."

A cosy casual spot for a quick, nutritious bite. There is a great selection of food, portions are generous and plenty of veggie options.
We loved it so much we got 3 meals here during our stay in Istanbul.
The staff are also lovely and great at recommending what to pick from the huge selection. Spinach with yogurt is definitely our favorite! Mushroom with rice also deserves a shout out 🤩

Food is spectacular! I recommend the beet root salad/pudding, both rice dishes are amazing, the chickpeas, and the leeks. All good. Carrots have a bit of mint if you’re into that.
Pick 5 veggies and they bring a basket of bread. We paid around $10 USD each and that included a bottle of water.

I ordered a chicken soup and chose different dishes (1 plate).
+ The food is very tasty. It created that homemade feeling.
+ Location: Toilet 🚽 is clean. There is a construction 🚧 site right in front of the restaurant (Visit end of November). Of course, it is not their 'fault', however, I would not recommend this location for now. It was pretty loud.
+ Service: no complaints

Delicious food, mostly plant forward. They change their menu everyday. Small, unassuming place at the corner of a very busy street. Check it out for something different!

Probably the best place around. Fair price for what you get. Good quality also. Went there for almost my entire vacation. Always found good things to eat

How could anyone hate this place? It is a restaurant that feels authentic. There is no English spoken here. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The people in the black puff jackets will serve you. Food is served as a pick 5 plate. There are many options and the 5 I picked were very good. The cost was 200 lira or around $7 USD.
Many local motorbike drivers stopped here and got lunch which is how I knew it was a quality establishment.

Delicious simple food in a no-frill environment with nice service. You pick up to 5 dishes out if about 15 - there were 3 of us and we tried about 8 of those, everything was great. Highly recommend!
