Hemingway’s gave me mixed feelings. It is in a lovely location on the beach, with great views when the tide is in. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the owners seem great too. The premises are well maintained and clean, and the seats are comfortable.
Where it starts to not live up to its full potential is with the good and pricing.
The Calamari starter was generous and well cooked, but didn’t have any distinct flavors or Thai ‘feeling’ about it. Nice to eat, but forgettable.
The Pad Thai (the first one I have ever eaten in Thailand) was OK, but not all it could be. As this is the chefs specialty I was surprised.
So we left full, but not satisfied.
This restaurant is skirting the middle ground.
Very western in its pricing, serving size and taste.
A bit Thai with some flavors and style.
If you want “Thai Style” cuisine, in a nice place, and you don’t care what it costs. Hemingway’s is great.
However if you want “Thai” food, there are better options in town.
This gets 4 out of 5 on the Jeff scale because they haven’t quite figured out who they are yet, when they get that sorted, maybe they’ll be a 5.
