We stayed 5 nights, the checkin process was good. When a mistake was made and we were given a key to an already occupied room, we were upgraded to a partial ocean view room, which was a nice thing for them to do.
Horizons is their bar area, we had a drink and ate a sandwich or appetizer every day. Bob made an outstanding cosmo and was friendly to chat with. The Turkey club was fantastic - generous size and we split it. The burger was also very good, however, it was cooked more medium/well vs. the medium we ordered. There was no pink at all, but the flavor was very good. We also tried the cauliflower appetizer. It is pricey, however, delicious. It has an Asian sauce over the florets and served over rice. Nicolas was also a very attentive bartender and it was his recommendation to try these - we are sure glad he did!
The gym was great - 2 rooms with the basics anyone would need while trying to keep in shape while on vacation. Cardio, free weights and nautilus type equipment. They also had a fruit bowl, cold water and a little fridge with chilled towels. Nice touch!
Awesome they have an adults pool, where they offer fruited water but there is also a pool menu you can order off of, including alcohol. Their policy of closing the pool when lightning is seen is completely understandable. They do seem a bit over cautious as they won't reopen up the pool until 30 minutes after the entire storm has passed. There are plenty of towels, we did need 3 or 4 each to cover the entire chair and also use one to make a "pillow".
Our room was just OK. For what is charged, the Henderson needs to up their game. The room has an odd design when you try to open the door. You have to awkwardly step in and to the side to enter as the entryway is more narrow than it should be and you have to scotch around the closet handles. The walls are paper thin. Like rice paper thin. We heard the tv from our neighbors the first 2 nights and once they checked out, we heard music and conversation from the next guests. I often heard the neighbor's shower and toilet flush during our stay. We had a balcony with a little couch, which was nice. However, on each side is your neighbor's balcony and there is absolutely no privacy. When we checked in, one neighbor was enjoying a cigar, then later, the other neighbor was outside having a private phone conversation. I felt I was sitting with them from my own balcony. The bed was super comfy, so points for that.
Housekeeping service is an area the Henderson really needs to focus on. They have an in room espresso machine and they supply 6 pods. Ours had 4 decaf and 2 with caffeine. The next day we moved the decaf ones aside and drank the 2 with caffeine. When the room was replenished we got even more decaf. OK, so someone wasn't really paying attention, so the next day I left a note asking for more caffeine ones, no need to keep stockpiling up the decaf. Twice we had to call to ask them come to refresh and clean the room. Most days we were gone 2/3 of day, and we often saw housekeeping in the hall so we would make a point of letting them know our room needed servicing, however, when we returned later that day, the room had not been touched. One day we came back to see about half dozen housekeeping employees outside our door, along with a cart. Apparently the manager decided to hold a meeting right there in the hall. You would never see this happening at a Four Seasons. If you want to charge Four Season prices you need to hire folks who understand it is all about a consistent, high quality experience. Not holding housekeeping meetings in the hall.
The bathroom was not vented properly. I'll just leave it at that.
Valet is pricey - $25 a day. The resort fee of $29 is also annoying as it does not include beach chairs or an umbrella. I'd prefer to stay at a hotel who just gives me the rate that covers this stuff, as these types of "fees" always make me feel nickel and dimed.
We were always offered water while we waited for our car to be brought up by valet, and Meredith was always energetic and friendly.
In summary, we felt like the staff were all super nice but lacking in training.
