Henn Na Hotel Maihama Tokyo Bay

"How did it strike you on arrival? So this is happening—this hotel is run by robots (and a few people). Where's the concierge? Oh, right, it’s that furry velociraptor behind the desk in a green and white bellhop cap—or the mannequin-like, smiling woman next to it, speaking in her staccato subway-announcement voice. This should be interesting! Nice. What’s the crowd like?Speaks in code. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The rooms are small, functional, clean, and nothing special—no matter the category. Deluxe rooms are slightly bigger, complete with built-in desk, but don't expect more flare beyond the striped throw-blanket on the bed and the television on the wall. A scanner outside the door unlocks the room by way of facial recognition if you're keen. Inside, each room gets a bedside robot (one, called Churi-chan, is a cartoonish character dressed in pink and green) that can tell you all of the things that Siri already knows (the weather) and can do all of the things your incredible iPhone can do (scheduling a wake-up alarm), although, uniquely, it can also turn off the lights (if you can't do it yourself). How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Truthfully, some of these tiny robots are pretty cute. We wouldn't be opposed to slipping one of the furry ones into our luggage. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Bathrooms are a reminder of the only robots anyone truly needs while in Tokyo: Toilets that do more than flush. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?C'mon, it's a robot hotel, of course Wi-Fi is free. Room service: Worth it?Okay, so the robots aren't exactly savvy enough to whip up comfort food and deliver it to each guest room. However, there are some O.G. machines on premises that will do the trick—they're called vending machines. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? It's just barely faster than a turtle, but the robotic cart that carries luggage to the room deserves a pat on the back. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. This hotel exists in this location for one specific reason: its proximity to Tokyo Disneyland. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The dinosaur concierge (in reality, the touchscreen in front of it that guests use to check-in) doesn't always work perfectly and has the tendency to fumble (understandable: velociraptors have small hands), so staff waits nearby to swoop in with the human touch. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Its robotic functions aren't always any more exciting than the touch-screen remotes at most newer hotels, but if you're already planning on going to Tokyo Disney, and you have a blossoming nerd in the family, it can be one of the more amusing accommodations in Tokyo (and at the very least, a solid photo-op)." - Keith Flanagan

This is such a cute little hotel! As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a couple of welcoming T-rexes. At check-in, two cheerful raptors oversee the self-check-in process—but don’t worry, help is just a call away if you run into any issues. The rooms are small (compared to Western hotels) but very clean and well-maintained. We were provided with all the necessary toiletries, and I especially appreciated that the toilet was in a separate room from the shower—it really helped keep things tidy! There's a 7-Eleven just a 30-second walk from the hotel, which made it super convenient to grab snacks and drinks. Highly recommend this hotel if you're traveling with kids—it's fun, quirky, and family-friendly!

Super fun dinosaur hotel! Stayed here as a family of four - parents with a three and six year old. The self check in process was easy and if you needed assistance the staff came out. The staff person we worked with had very limited English but used her phone for translation. The rooms are a decent size we had a three bed room and you could push the beds together. I liked how the toilet and shower/tub area were separate. We didn’t get the breakfast so opted to depend on 7-11 packaged baked goods. There’s a Lawson and 7-11 within walking distance. Also, don’t miss the conveyor belt place down the street about a two minute walk. Super friendly folks and fresh sushi - delicious. They speak very to little English though. The Disney shuttle bus was super convenient but if you plan to take the 8:00am bus make sure to line up early it was always for us. The kids enjoyed staying here and seeing the dinosaurs, it’s convenient to Disney, restaurants and convenience stores - good choice if you don’t need to stay in a Disney hotel but still want to be close by.

This hotel is a niche… And we loved it. Room is fairly basic, which we knew. Location was GREAT for the value and right next to TWO conbini. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinosaur theme as adults. Dino check in can be a bit tricky for foreign guests, but real people staff are very quick to help.

This is a great location if you are going to Disneyland and Disney Sea super close and there is a shuttle from the hotel that takes and picks you up. The experience was great and super family friendly the rooms were a bit tight for three people and luggage if you are traveling internationally otherwise it was a fun experience for out family and our five year old. The breakfast dinning area next door is amazing and everything tasted amazing. We will be coming back maybe booking two room or bigger room if available.

ruined by the absolute uncleanliness of the rooms and in particular floors of the hallways. The floors were stained absolutely everywhere…even the couch in our room had a big stain from god knows what. It was all very unhygienic from the moment we entered the corridor to get to our room, add to that, all night we heard screaming children. The hotel idea is novel but definitely not worth staying at. We stayed 1 out of 3 nights, expressed our distain and physically showed them the issues. Asked for a refund on the next two nights so we could stay elsewhere. We were told there would be no refund on the two days we decided not to stay as they don’t offer refunds ever….never. This is the worst hotel I have ever experienced and I’m a seasoned traveller. Buyer please beware. Your kids will be walking those stained and disgusting hallways to get to your room. Save yourself the heartache and ick factor. We are still yet to get a refund but will not stop taking this further until we do. BEWARE THIS PLACE IS NOT SANITARY AT THE LEAST. It is disgusting. How hard is it to dry clean a floor? It might be a novel idea, but the state of the place and rooms are deplorable and this shouldn’t be allowed. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

One of the best places I’ve stayed in Japan. Clean, very accessible. Be mindful that it’s an electronic check in — The dinosaurs help you. I’m not kidding 😂 They have toiletries incase you forgot yours. There’s bathroom robes, razors, toothbrushes, etc. 10/10 would recommend.

Our stay was great. Our window was on the Disney side so we could see the fireworks. There are not many staff members besides the dinosaurs. This hotel is in a semi residential area, so there isn't much to do besides go to Disney. There is a great Katsu place 2 min walk away plus 7-11 and a Lawson. There is a shuttle to Disney/Train station.

Yelp
Dinosaur check in was fun, and there was an English option, but make sure to have your passport out as you will need to scan it, and if not done quickly it will reset to the beginning. The two twin beds in the room can be pushed together for a larger option as the center seat shown can either be rolled out for a bed or pushed aside. They did not have on sight luggage shipping available, and was the only hotel I've been to in Japan that didn't. Considering it is suppose to be an automatic hotel, I shouldn't be too surprised but for fellow snowboard carrying travelers, be prepared to walk a few blocks to reach a shipping provider to get your luggage moved to your next destination.

Yelp
Having robot dinosaurs to check you in and robots throughout the main lobby is a good marketing idea. But is no substitute for real people checking you in. At check-in, you are required to scan your passport to look up reservations. It did not work and it took 2 people to get it to work after going to the back room. Once the machine was able to pull up the reservation, it asks for you to pay via the machine next to the check-in counter. Paying by credit card requires a pin number to be entered. In the US, we don't use pin numbers to use a credit card to pay for a hotel. Thus it required a third person to help us. Once we were check in, we went to the room and found a small, white, oval robot that accepts voice commands. Half the time it did not understand our commands. Size of the room was small, but average size for Tokyo. Bed was very firm. Separate shower and toilet. Overall, went to this hotel to see what the hype was about. It was good to experience for one night.
