Are you coming through Panguitch and need a quick bite? Do you love small town burger joints with their own "Home of the fill-in-the-blank" marketing schtick? Do you love a good shake? Oh, Henrie's!
Away for a long weekend of backpacking and other outdoor adventures, I decided to forgo my usual Panguitch stop in the name of speed and mixing things up. Henrie's had a nearly full dining area as it was lunchtime, but I pressed on to fill my belly with its last meal before an onslaught of miles, trail mix, dehydrated food, and filtered water.
This is exactly the kind of place I would take you if we were together, making our way through town, taking time off of work, and headed out for adventure. I love these places. I can't get enough of them. I think everyone should have more of this stuff, so if we're headed out to hike (and you love hiking, right?) then we're going to stop by and see what they're all about.
This is exactly the kind of place you would think it is. Small dining area, old-ish seats, simple menu, and plenty of signage and straightforward talk to let you know that's it's made to order, and not your everyday fast food joint. They're the "Home of the Chubby Cheese" and it even has its own diagram so you know what that is--basically a double cheeseburger with their own special sauce, lettuce, and onion. I ordered it, obvs.
I also got an order of cheese fries, which were probably great when they were piping hot, but since the order took a little longer than anticipated, I think they may have been done a bit before everything else and the cheese had left its gooey stage already. I think regular fries are the right move. The burger was good, of course, and it's fun that it has its own name.
The chocolate banana shake, though, really shined. It's made with the syrup for chocolate, so it's got a nice burn, but they didn't overdo or underdo. It was perfectly chocolate, and blended very well. I don't mind chunks of banana but mine was chunkless.
Let's go on a long hike. Let's do it as often as possible. Let's stop at small town burger joints and also at diners for pancakes and let's always get pie and shakes and all the things that small town eateries offer. In Panguitch, that means a stop at Henrie's.
