Henry Jacques supposedly has been making fragrance for nearly a half-century, but I'd never heard of the guy (or company, or whatever). The boutique, located in the former Serapian space in Two Rodeo, is a small, two-room space lined with dark wainscoting. The fragrances are nice enough, I suppose, but not exactly original or memorable ― certainly not for the stratospheric prices, which, for a half-ounce of parfum, start at $578. (And parfum is mainly what they sell here.) The only thing I found impressive was the audacity of Monsieur Jacques, whoever he is, to sell his uninspired products for such outrageous sums. The gentleman staffing the store was genial, pleasant, and extremely helpful, and he provided excellent service, and I'm adding another star for that. But at Henry Jacques' overblown prices, I don't see myself returning to sniff around again, even out of curiosity.
