Suitable for a small town fine dining establishment.
My wife and I live in Columbus and decided to take a break from driving to Indianapolis and Louisville to eat at restaurants such as Jeff Ruby’s, Vida, Repeal Oak Fired Steakhouse, and Eddie Merlot's, among others.
We made a reservation, and upon arrival, we were seated promptly in a comfortable booth that was inviting and cozy for a date night.
We started with their focaccia bread. This was very dense and tough. After two bites, we decided to save room for the main course. We both ordered the steak that was served on a bed of mashed potatoes with gravy and asparagus. The steak was okay, as it wasn’t as tender as I expected and lacked flavor. The steak was served on top of mashed potatoes and chopped asparagus, which was more like a mushy potato soup with chunks of asparagus in it.
For dessert, we had the crème brûlée, which is our go-to when we are out to eat. The caramelized sugar was too thick and had a burnt taste. The crème anglaise (the filling) was good and very enjoyable.
I think that if we had gone into this with an open mind, it would have been different, but the hype from people in town, the online reviews, and the cost gave me high hopes.
Nash’s in North Vernon is a better spot for your money, in my opinion.
