I stopped in to Henry the Hatter looking for the perfect hat for a special event—and they did not disappoint! It was my first time visiting this location, and I was genuinely impressed by both the selection and the service. I also had an old top hat in need of repair. Joe, the owner, went above and beyond—he personally called around and found a place that could handle the job. That kind of service is rare these days and truly appreciated. If you're looking for a great hat and even better service, this is the place to go. Kudos to the entire team at Henry the Hatter! I left with a hat that’s absolutely perfect for my upcoming 1940s-themed event—great style, perfect fit. Thanks again!

Google
Great people to deal with. They will help you find the hat that best suits you. They have hats in all price ranges. They offer full service hat cleaning and shaping. Very nice old shop.

Google
Purveyor of top quality merchandise at competitive prices. Most excellent service! Sales staff pursued securing a hat for me that took 2 1/2 years to get. Kept me updated on their efforts to obtain my hat which was simply not available from the manufacturer. When the hat finally arrived I was promptly notified. Moreover, it was obvious the staff shared my delight in my purchase. Well done! Highly recommend this store!!

The store has been a Detroit institution since 1893. What’s amazing is they have maintained that high level of service and products all along. The Eastern Market store is charming with ample space. The selection of products is wide ranging. They offer flat caps, fedoras, Panama style hats, Kangol, even silk top hats and much more. The staff, who help make the business, are knowledgeable, available and engaging. They balance the right amount of assistance while letting you consider on your own. I found two great hats. If you spend over $100 you get a hat box too. Well worth the trip to Henry Hatters, a Detroit hat icon.

Was here today and bought and hat, and have to say it isn’t everyday you walk into a store anymore and meet people as helpful as those who work here. Great store with plenty to choose from, I’ll be back. Thanks!

Henry The Hatter is the real thing. One of the best hat stores in the country. They took time to make sure the hat fit just right. Very friendly. I will be a guest for life.

I was recently faced with the inevitable, my fears came to the forefront of my life... The Bald - and I found myself Google'ing ways to cope and I've always been a fashionisto... an older gentleman told me you can buy all kinds of snake oils and waste your money, or you can go visit the century plus old place that never fails... Henry the Hatter in the Eastern Market. I shot down the following morning and to my disbelief, Henry was indeed the answer and cure to my problem. thanks Joe, you and the fellas now have my pride and ego back where it was when I had a full head of hair. I appreciate you ~Mr. Borsalino

Yelp
Everyone there was polite and helpful and they did a good job on my hats. I have several hats that I have to take in an occasion to have them cleaned and shaped

Yelp
Best thing we did in Detroit was to come to Henry the Hatter. Paul , the owner, was such a wonderful gentleman who shared with us the history of the store. Zach, his son , was extremely patient and polite with me as a shopped for the right hat and best fit for my XL head. The selection here is the best of any hat shop I've ever been to anywhere in the world.

Yelp
Today I was really excited to stop at Henry the Hatter. My father shopped there for years and I had not been since they moved down to the Eastern market area. I am a 55 year old black female. They must have a lot of stealing because brother profiled me and followed me around the store like I was a dog in heat. This is so disappointing. I went because I wanted to inquire about getting a hat stretched and also wanted to throw some money their way. They didn't follow the caucasian people around the store - only me. I'll be back for them too stretch my hat. I don't think I'll be purchasing anything from them. Being profiled is a feeling that makes you sick to your stomach. I guess this is part of gentrification. I did politely speak to the gentleman about my experience while I was there I believe his name was Jovan, it was a no use.

Yelp
They have almost every old school hat you need and they are very attentive to your needs and will get you to or as close as possible to the look or style you are trying to achieve

Yelp
A long time Detroit Hatter! Even if you think you can't wear hats they will find a hat for you! All kinds of hats for any occasion and any style. The salesmen will help you find the perfect hat. Excellent selection, excellent customer service. You're not a Detroiter until you have a hat from Henry the Hatter!

Yelp
Henry the Hatter is the place to buy a hat or hats for the man in your life. They have straw, felt, wool, leather, you name it they have it. And in every style, ball caps, top, stetsons, fedoras, newsboys, stingy, beret, stoli and on it goes. The staff is friendly and customer oriented. Direct descendants of "the Henry" work in the store as well. Pictures of famous cutomers adorn the shop, Coleman Young and Steve Harvey to name a few. Another thing all the hats I looked at were made in the USA. Quality merchandise here. This landmark shop is a part of Detroit history. Check them out!

Yelp
Today "Henry The Hatter" meets "Tome-Kat" the tourist! Henry the Hatter is located right on the intersection of Grand River and Broadway in Downtown Detroit. I was in the downtown area hitting all of my local spots that I used to visit when I lived in the Detroit a few years ago. I decided to stop by this historic Detroit gem in search of a hat. Henry the Hatter is most unique hat shops in America. They have quite an assortment of hats from Derby hats to Porkpie's to casual hats. The hats are a bit pricey but you pay for what you get. Very good quality. Originally my plan of action was to casually browse in search of a fedora, and I walked away with a patch cap to add to my collection. This is a very nifty hat shop, I'll be back soon enough!

Yelp
An absolute landmark in Detroit, Henry the Hatter, located on Broadway is a haven of hats. If there's a hat you need, Henry has got it. This hat store, with locations in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Southfield, carries everything form Kangols to Fedoras to newsboy caps to 10 gallon hats. This is the place to go when you want to accessories that head of yours. What I love about Henry's is that the staff is so into hats and will make any customer appreciate millinery in a whole new way. Even if you're not in the market for a hat Henry's is a great shop to just browse and if you can't make it to one of the 3 Metro Detroit locations check out their website.

Yelp
This is really a gem in Detroit's crown. Places like this remind me of the old Hudson's at Christmastime shopping downtown. Bought a Caddyshack hat for Father's Day... Just an original gift for the man who has everything he wants and doesn't need anotherphoto gift of the kid!

Yelp
The first time I visited Henry the Hatter, about five years ago, I wasn't really sure if I could pull off the hat I wanted, this smooth chocolate brown snap-brim with a maroon feather. I asked, "Hats are coming back, huh?" The nice lady behind the counter didn't blink and fired back, "Hats BEEN back, we're just waitin' for the people to come back!" True enough. It's tough economic times and most people really don't appreciate the stylistic integrity it takes to rock a good hat. I bought two that day. Fit great, and both still get compliments. Now I refer all my hat-appreciating peeps to Henry's. If you know what's up, stop by.

Yelp
Whenever I feel the need for a new chapeau to stuff my rapidly graying curly locks under there is only one place I head, the Henry's downtown. A mecca for hat lovers for over a hundred years (the place makes me feel almost young). If you're in the mood for a hat in any season or need questions answered this is the place to start. They have almost everything, from fur hats for Detroit's winter to straws for the warmer months. You can find all the name brands from Kagol to Stetson but don't overlook the wide variety of imported hats and caps. The staff is very helpful once they realize you are shopping not just browsing. Another strong point is that they carry a broad range of sizes. Me of the big head has problems finding hats but not at Henry's.

Yelp
This store is a real hatter. Whether you buy online or in the store or order on the phone they know hats and appreciate them. Henry the Hatter carries hats specially made for them. I've purchased two that you won't find elsewhere, a beautiful Homburg called a "Biaritz" that features a unique pinched front. This type of hat is also known as a "Lords Hat". I just purchased a C Crown Milan Straw Fedora called the "Sinatra" that you won't find elsewhere. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I visited the store today (Nov. 9th). I was greeted by the owner at the door (great). I perused the selection from the window display through to the fall hats in the rear of the store. I pulled several hats from the display shelves to see if they were the right color for a sport coat. At no point did the salesperson who was within 10ft of me ask if I need help, if I were looking for something in particular. Instead she stood in place and talked with another salesperson. I was in the store for approximately ten minutes before the salesperson decided to pay attention and ask if I needed anything. I hope this is an isolated case as my past history with Henry The Hatter has been great.

Yelp
Detroit needs to have a city-wide customer service campaign. It pains me when I return to my hometown and see abysmal attitudes in places of business. I'm there to give you money, could you give me some help? I went here looking for a fedora or two since I can never fit women-sized hats. And also I tend to like some "masculine" textiles/patterns. I do have to add that they actually have a small selection of hats for women, but I've seen much better at a couple of hat shops here in San Francisco. I walked in and was met with silence. There was one other person in there, and no one acknowledged my presence --- at least not for several minutes. I asked about hats for women, wanting to explain my woes about having a big head (no really, it's pretty big) and I tend to wear my hair in Afros. I didn't feel like anyone really cared about what type of hat I was interested in, so I didn't care to spend my money here. Meh, that place left me cold (and it wasn't because it was winter at the time). Too bad, it's such a city institution. I get the impression that if I were a male and I looked like a 'baller that I would have gotten a lot more attention and help. I'm just sayin'. The three stars are solely based on the fact that they have an extensive selection of men's hats in all kinds of styles and there's a brochure that explains the difference between a fedora and a panama. At least I learned something.

Yelp
If you need a hat this is your place! Stylish hats, church hats, pimp hats, etc. You need a lid and you want to step out in style you got to come here. I brough a kangoo from this joint. I'm going back to get me a hat with a mean brim! Next I'm getting a fadora. This place has the best hats hands down!

Yelp
An awesome gem of old Detroit. I've been buying all my hats here since 2009 and have been satisfied with every purchase made. They got a great selection of hats from caps and ball caps to fedoras and too hats. Be prepared to pay a lot though. They sell great quality hats at great quality prices. Whatever style of headwear floats your boat, I'm sure you'll find it here.

Yelp
A classic. Good people willing to help find a hat that works for your head:)

Yelp
I purchased two hats yesterday for around $100. I encouraged my Dad to come and get a hat while I was there. You know, support Detroit small businesses. I returned today to get a refund for one of the hats. The owner tells me no refunds. In an economic climate where competition is fierce, and you(the customer) just might not like the product as much when you get home. The reasoning why you(the owner) would deny a refund to a first time customer, who is referring your service that brings you in immediate sells eludes me. Macy's, Apple, Gucci, Nordstrom, EVEN WALMART gives refunds. Needless to say, I won't be back.

Yelp
I asked them to clean and block, replace the ribbon, turn the brim down and stretch my stetson fedora from 7 1/8 to 7 1/4. When I received the hat the lady was very rude, she seemed pissed to be there, the brim was not turned down, the ribbon only had half of the bow and was showing the stitching where the brim and the crown attach, and they shrank my hat to 6 3/4. also tore the sweet band. I said wtf and they would only refund me the price of the ribbon. total bull.

Yelp
It's a lot of bald men in Detroit...so I guess there is a great need for a company like Henry the Hatter (which has been around since Jesus was born..or so it seems). Any type of hat a grown man would need, you can find it at this store. I am not really into all the great brand names for hats, but I do know I am a fan of Kangol...which they have plenty of here. Online you can browse through most of their collections and check out the discounted prices.

Yelp
Good Afternoon Mr. Wasserman, My name is Tammy from New Castle, DE My family and I visited your store on 7/17. The reason being, we did a road trip to MI for Kid Rock's concert. The reason we stopped in your store was I wanted to see some of the places that were in his video. I wanted to drop you a line when we returned home but, I did not have the chance. I just wanted to make you aware of how nice of a staff you have in your store. The night we were there, your son was in the store and the only other name I rembmber is Pam. There was a younger lady as well as a older gentleman working that evening. My son and nephew purchased ball caps. The service of your staff was very accomodating, pleasant and very friendly. The young lady went out of her way to stretch my sons cap to make sure that one fit because, there was not another one like it and he really wanted that one. Pam made my day by letting me take a picture with her. The atmosphere in your store was warm and welcoming. BEST of luck in the years to come. A Very Happy customer.
