Henry’s On Clay

Most owners want to make things right, seems like these guys just react fire emojis on some good pictures. Too bad everything isn’t as it seems. It only looks good. Service: I’ve been here a couple of times and I’m so disillusioned by the fact that their service is extremely careless. I’ve been a server before, I’ve forgotten things once or twice, but our surrounding tables both times (3+ people) have been serviced and out of the door before us when we (2) sat AND ordered long before they were seated. Our coffee was warm by the time they gave it to us, which was after the surrounding tables seated after us were served. They were all much older. So either they’re locals or it’s ageism, either way, cold hot coffee and waiting 10 minutes for ketchup is crazy. I got up and got it myself. All the other tables were asked how everything was, not us. Lol. Food: it was OK, flavor wasn’t really there so I just piled on the salt, pepper, and ketchup. I also found some thin pieces of plastic in my dish. I’m not sure what to think of it but I stopped eating after that.

Google
They were very busy on the day after Christmas, but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table. Once seated we were immediately waited on. All the employees seemed to be working together like a well oiled machine. The food and coffee was excellent, we will be back.

One of the best breakfast and lunch cafe I've ever been to. Bakery items are fresh and delicious. Sandwiches are hand crafted to perfection. Parking is tough but well worth it.

Google
Creative menu- the food was outstanding! So so good. We ordered The Ellen -grilled salmon on a croissant with pickled jalapeños, slivers of carrot and onions and cheddar cheese with a side salad. Could use more jalapeños. The Sienna - a sunny side up egg on a sesame bagel with lots of creamed avocado and fresh mozzarella, good size pieces of crispy bacon, a few raspberries and blueberries, sprinkled with toasted pistachios served with the most delicious home fries - Good Lord! Could use more berries was the one comment from my bf. We sat by the step leading to the back dining area and I found it distracting because EVERY time the servers went up and down the one step it reverberated our table, chair, my body, my head- I had a headache so I felt these steps- I refrained from asking for another table. I would not sit there again.

Google
The restaurant is very quaint, and really cute. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. The food was awesome. Our server was amazing! Loved every minute of it! Parking is a little crowded because it’s on street parking in a neighborhood but honestly well worth The struggle To find a spot.

Henry’s on Clay in Dunmore is a gem for breakfast. The atmosphere is welcoming and cozy. The service is attentive and friendly, adding to the overall warmth of the place. Whether you’re craving for bacon and syrup or something with a unique twist, HOC is worth visiting! Second visit. Went to Henry’s on Clay for brunch and it hit the spot. Got the Slam and the avo toast—both really good. Tried the seasonal latte too, it’s an iced mocha right now, and wow, that was on point. Service was awesome, our waitress Cristina was super friendly and took great care of us. Definitely one of those places I’d swing back to.

Google
Was on a 24 hour road trip to make furniture delivery’s first stop of the day was down the road from this place it was styled very nice the staff all seemed hip and cool and all the customers were clean and pleasant. The hangover hash must of had 10 pounds of melted cheese. It was extremely good.

Google
I passed this place many times and stopped in today for the first time. The service was top notch. Very friendly and welcoming with smiles. We tried out several of the menu items and they were all amazing. Very fresh and top quality. Great chicken pot pie soup, good coffee, hash, tuna, blueberry muffins loaded with blueberries. Will be back to try others. Price was much lower than I thought it would be. A pleasant surprise.

Yelp
I visited a few weeks ago for breakfast with my very picky 13 year old daughter. My French toast was very good, but she loved her chicken and waffles. At the time, she said that it was the best she's ever had, and 3 weeks later, she's still talking about it and wanting to go back. Sadly, we live 5 hours away. I brought home lemon, pistachio biscotti, and a biscuit, which were both really good, too. The place is spare but charming and service was good. We'd go back.

Yelp
Mediocre food and service. I really wanted to like this place but there was just not enough likable things about it.

Yelp
Anytime I come to Scranton, I stop here for breakfast/lunch. From their causally chic decor to their uniquely designed menu, I know that I will have a great experience. If you are someone that likes classic dishes with a unique twist in components and flavors, this is your place. I was a little nervous to try some of their dishes the first time but boy oh boy, their dishes do not disappoint! Service is always friendly and we've come at a good time so we never had to wait for a table but the place gets crowded. Street/residential parking so that can be tough at times.

Yelp
I always have a great experience here! The food is delicious and they do specials. The bakery items are fantastic and you should definitely take some with you. Portions are big and flavorful and the staff is super friendly. I always come here at least once during every work trip.

Yelp
I love the location and the vibe. Had a great table right on the window by the door. Great attention from the waitress. But the corned beef hash came up short. Lots of potato and the corned beef was almost a dusting or sauce on the potatoes. Had a very nice scone and I would go back for some bakery treats and give a sweeter entree a try. But just there for the weekend.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a quick breakfast. Cute little restaurant with lots of coffee refreshments. The waiter was attentive and offered food service. I ordered an omelet with bacon, sausage, onion, and cheddar cheese. The sausage did not taste like typical pork sausage. The omelet was big and served with a choice of bread. I added some hot sauce to my omelet for more flavor!

Bernadette A.

Yelp
Cute lunch spot. My falafel was tasty. Service attentive. I'd go back and try it again if I get the chance.

Yelp
Best breakfast place i've found in Scranton! The owner is sweet, the servers are super attentive and lovely, the chef is inspired and creative, LOVE THIS PLACE!

Yelp
Sadly we have to downgrade our rating. We were very excited to come back to our 5 * rated establishment with our best friends. The food is quite exceptional and it did not disappoint again. We ordered the hummus platter, french toast churros, the Lizzie (avocado toast with a fried egg), waffles with a side of bacon, the Bill & Kay (turkey pastrami, pork roll, swiss cheese and sauerkraut on rye) and the Dean Cali combo (breakfast sandwich with choice of meat). All of our dishes were fantastic! Food quality is super high and healthy while also being a generous portion. Where it all went wrong was the service. Granted, it was a Saturday at 10 am and the place was packed. All of the servers were hustling. Our food came out very slow. No one came to check on us or offer a second cup of coffee or water. Despite this, we would recommend coming because the food is just that good!

Yelp
Having grown up in the area and since moved away I was always sad that the Scranton area had such trouble keeping good businesses open and attracting new ones. We were back in NEPA to visit some family and friends in January and we were really pleased to come here as it was a new restaurant for us (it opened several years ago, but we don't get to come back often). We came for breakfast and it was a really great meal! Our server was attentive and took good care of us throughout the meal and the coffee was pretty tasty. I got a breakfast sandwich that was very flavorful and my side of home fries was great; the glaze they had on them was savory and added a different flavor profile to the meal. My wife had a Dutch baby and it was very, very good and not something that's easy to find on menus, so that was great. We were very impressed by Henry's on Clay and would definitely come back!

Yelp
Unique that's is what this restaurant is. Very unique menu. Delicious food. Nice cheery & bright atmosphere with very friendly staff. Coffee is very good, many different types to choose from. My turkey pastrami dusted pork roll Swiss cheese bacon sauerkraut 1000 island rye was awesome!

Yelp
Always a great experience. Delicious high quality healthy food and kind professional service. Very clean and bright dining area. I only wish this place had a better parking situation!

Ramona R.

Yelp
On a family trip and we stopped here for lunch. Service and food were amazing. Our waiter was proactive in making sure we had all we needed and navigating with a toddler. He also offered great food suggestions for us to try. Everything was delicious. The place is also super cute and well decorated.

Yelp
Came here for a coffee today with my family. Very cute place with outdoor seating. We ended up getting coffee and breakfast. The food was very good. I had the Lizzie with an added egg and it came with a little side salad. It was really good. Everyone else loved their food. I love a good breakfast spot! With good coffee too! Friendly and attentive staff as well! Only recommendation I would make is to move the location of their garbage cans. When sitting outside and the wind blows you can smell the cans. Kind of a turn off.

Yelp
I will not order from Henry's on Clay or their Bakery on Clay ever again. I am not usually the type to leave reviews for businesses; I just don't have enough time in my daily life to dedicate to reviewing every business I patronize, save for those who go above and beyond my expectations, or those who were unsatisfactory on every level that I feel the general public needs to know. Unfortunately, this is a case of the latter. We have ordered from the Bakery on Clay before. We have had no issues with the business prior to this, as we frequented both the bakery and the restaurant and were regular patrons. For my own birthday a few months prior, we received a three-layer cake that was well worth the amount that was paid for it, but for my fiancé's birthday celebration today, the cake was incorrect. When I had put in the order for the cake online, I had put in for a two-layer Sicillian Blood Orange cake, with light orange coloring for the frosting. The cake we received was a regular vanilla butter cake with the mascarpone frosting and the toasted pistachio topping that comes with that specific cake-- missing the blood orange curd necessary to balance these flavors out. As a quick aside, once submitting the order form, I did not receive an email with confirmation of my order choices like many other businesses, many of them family-owned, would have the courtesy to do when ordering online. I did receive a phone call minutes before their closing time (2:30 P.M.) several days after I put in my order to confirm the details of the order. My future mother-in-law left a voicemail for the business regarding this issue, but hoping to receive a response from the business sooner, my fiancé messaged them through their Instagram page. He informed them of the problem, and let the business know that we were disappointed with what we got. Instead of trying to rectify the problem, they immediately claimed that their cake did, in fact, contain blood oranges, but because they "recently updated [their] recipe," it might have resulted in a different appearance. Please believe me when I say that appearance is not the issue here. There was no hint of orange flavoring anywhere in this cake, made only more apparent by its appearance. We are offended that instead of trying to rectify the problem, they immediately went on the defensive and put the blame on us for 'misunderstanding' the specifications of their cake. Six people can testify that they tasted no hint of orange in the entire cake. There was no curd in this cake-- only icing. Their response was condescending and rude. They originally only offered a half-baked apology for not "meet[ing] our expectations" and it was only after we directly stated that we wanted a refund that they gave us one. We are happy to have gotten the refund, but beyond frustrated that it wasn't even a consideration in our conversation with the business. Mistakes happen. It would not have changed how disappointed we were to receive something that was incorrect, but we do understand that mistakes happen. As long as measures are taken to try and solve the issue, we would have been more than happy to accept that. What we do not appreciate, is the insinuation that we are wrong, that we must be stupid to not have tasted the blood orange that's clearly in there, that we're unreasonable for being disappointed, and that we are bad customers for expecting more out of a family-owned business. As someone who prides themselves on supporting local family-owned businesses, with many friends and family members business owners themselves, I wholeheartedly take offense to their statement to refrain patronizing small businesses. I would not have written this review if I felt their response was fair. Our family will never eat at their restaurant again. It really is a shame, too, because they have some delicious items on the menu that we will never get to eat again. No amount of deliciousness is worth the attitude and disrespect we have gotten from their business. I am trying to remain level-headed in my response, but to tell everyone the truth, I am incredibly distraught that they not only got the order wrong, but revealed themselves to be lesser people than we thought they were. I put a lot of thought into trying to make my fiancé's birthday memorable, and it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. I feel like I ruined his birthday, even though I know logically this issue had nothing to do with me. Incredibly rude response to a situation that could have easily been rectified. Included images they have posted of the cake on their Instagram page, images of the cake we recieved, and images of the text conversation they had with my fiancé, edited only to hide personal information.

Yelp
My first visit was a lunch date with a good friend and what a great experience. Even though it appeared busy, we were promptly greeted and told to sit where ever we wanted. We chose a corner table in the back room, which was clean and tastefully decorated. Shortly after sitting and scanning the menu, our server greeted us and took our beverage order - he was friendly, attentive and personable. Shortly after, our lattes arrived and were perfectly prepared and visually pretty. My friend ordered Chicken Pot Pie soup, I ordered the Cleo's Wrap. Our food was delivered in a reasonable time, again - visually appealing and delicious. Thank you to my friend for introducing me to this great little place.

Yelp
Thank you yelp for helping me find this place for lunch. It was perfect. I want to come back to Scranton just to visit this beautiful, yummy restaurant. The people were amazing and very friendly. The delicious tuna melt, ice tea, and delicious chocolate chip cookie- wow.

Yelp
What a magical restaurant. The food is something like we've never eaten. Very delicious, and without a doubt we will come back. The service is beyond exceptional. Arrived hungry, and leaving with a full belly and all kinds of happiness.

Heidi J.

Yelp
This cafe is fantastic! Great decor and atmosphere! The portions are large, the choices are sophisticated and the prices are very reasonable. I enjoyed the stacked waffle and Turkey with blackberry jam and candied nuts! This breakfast treat is a must try!

Trish W.

Yelp
We stopped here while driving through the area on a road trip. Staff were friendly and place was upbeat and clean. We ordered the Bill Kay and Y Pal sandwiches. Delicious!

Yelp
This place is amazing. It's very quaint on the inside with a cool vibe to it. The Dutch baby was a 10/10. Its gigantic and packed with flavor and berries, loved it. Also a gentleman approached me to talk and see how I was doing and it ended up being the owner Henry. Super nice of him to take the time to say hi. My waiter was awesome and I got two vanilla Latte's because they were so good. Next time I'm in the area this will be my go-to spot.

Jeff D.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my visit to Henry's. We arrived on a Sunday morning, again after another dear friend tied the knot, not less than 24 earlier. We had to wait a few minutes but occupied ourselves with some of their delicious, iced coffee. Henry's got their first strike when they informed us that they were out of their dutch baby but more than made up for it with Buddy Clarke's hangover hash w/chorizo sausage gravy, cheddar bechemel and sunny side egg. Not only was it the perfect name for how I was feeling but quickly silenced my hunger and didn't allow me to put my fork down. Also gotta give a shout out to the Lizzie - avocado toast w/olive oil, everything seasoning and lime w/home fries. Oh and that side of bacon...let's just say it wasn't a mistake. Henry, hopefully we meet again soon.

Stephen H.

Yelp
This was one of the most amazing breakfasts I've ever had. I could honestly say it might be the best. I had the Henry Carl. It was a combination of flavors that was so good, I would travel back to Scranton just for it. My compliments to the chef.

Laurie K.

Yelp
Great little place to meet and have brunch with some good treats for after tot ale home and enjoy there
google avatar

Candice S.

Yelp
Great spot for brunch! Although busy, the waiters were very attentive. Super nice atmosphere. The lattes and food were so yummy! The best breakfast potatoes I've ever had!!! Plus it's all at an affordable price. I would like to come back here again and again!
google avatar

Kerri S.

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Very cute corner shop type of vibe, they were busy which was a good sign to me. The only downfall was that my husband ordered French Toast and we never received it. Wasn't charged for it so i can't be that mad but it was disappointing because he was so hungry and looking forward to it. Gave him the rest of my omelette and home fries cause i felt bad.
google avatar

Tim O.

Yelp
Bright, hip, cramped. Does not feel congruent with the local food scene, which is a good thing. Food was original, elevated, and plated well.
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
The food was good and all the employees were very helpful too! We'll be back in next time we're in town!
google avatar

Laurie M.

Yelp
I liked it , nice energy, cute decor the food was good. My friend got the breakfast burrito. She was ok with it but I think it's a choice of personal opinion because it was made well and came as described.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
This is the best little breakfast place around! The food is consistently delicious, the service is fast and friendly, and the vibe is positive! The coffee they use is the best around!

Kait H.

Yelp
i've ordered from here a few times. i'd say it's generally just okay. i always do take-out so maybe that's the issue? but i don't want to eat there. however, i think their soups are really tasty and i also enjoy the chocolate chip cookies. i don't know that i'll be coming back though after my recent order. i ordered a salad and something was off about the dressing. usually it's a creamy citrusy dressing that i could drink with a straw. today, it seemed like straight sour cream with no flavor. quite a few pieces of lettuce were brown and to top it off, i found a hair in my salad! yum! i also added salmon and the portion was small and overcooked in my opinion. i think that's all for me folks!

Michele P.

Yelp
Had the Henry Carl a few times now and the food is outstanding. Can't figure out why there's so much staff on duty yet only 2 actual waitstaff on the weekend we were there. The waitstaff are great just pulled all over. Waited 20 minutes to ask for a glass of water while many people stood around including the girl cleaning tables. Ordered and still waited 15 minutes more for drinks that were wrong. Just think if the staff could multitask better maybe things would go smoother and be a better experience. The food is worth it, but the service could be better.
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Clean, friendly, eye popping place. Love almost everything. Bakery and breakfast, and coffee, are all very good. Would like to see a bit more flavor intensity in everything but I'm being picky.
google avatar

Eileen H.

Yelp
My review is on their cake. I ordered a Banoffee cake for my ladies only brunch recently (three tiers of banana cake, sticky toffee dulce, crunchy cinnamon shortbread with brown butter cream cheese frosting). This cake was nothing short of amazing. They offer other flavors as well and my friends and I decided that we are going to have "cake and wine" nights so we can try every one of them. The cakes are around $55, probably depending on which one you get, but you can easily cut it into 16 pieces (don't forget--it's THREE tiers) and it's worth every penny. You order online and someone will call you back to confirm your order within a day or so.

Yah M.

Yelp
Good quality food Limited menu options Speedy service Clean environment Great lunch spot

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Wonderful food and friendly and warm staff. Bright and sunny inside. It's a gem! The bakery items are an added bonus, as is the La Colombe coffee!

Val R.

Yelp
First off, the Henry's home fries are sensational! Ambiance was bright and clean. I will qualify my next statements with the fact that we didn't try any of the pastries. That being said we didn't return even though we were in Scranton a week later. Not anything terrible, just underwhelming. My husband's omelette was fine but lacked flavor as did my frittatas, which were quite overcooked. Cappuccino was mediocre. Service was fine though not very attentive. The only thing that would bring me back is the amazing home fries, seriously so good!

Anthony D.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Outdoor seating was great. Highly recommended. Nice t shirts too!
google avatar

Yelp
Surprising find in Scranton! Found ourselves here on Valentine's weekend. Arrived when they opened and quickly got a table. Great food, wonderful atmosphere, good coffee. I imagine later in the morning they're probably packed- small space after all. But still a great spot.

Dan N.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast or lunch. A little tight on seating. Food has always been tasty.
google avatar

Hadeer E.

Yelp
Delicious food and fantastic customer service! The coffee is also great. Loved this place!
google avatar

Myra V.

Yelp
We've been coming here for a few years now and every time we come, it's always good. Now, they have expanded the cafe with a bakery and extra seating area. The place is clean and staff is friendly. The Henry Carl sandwich, French toast churro, B.E.C empanada, liege waffle, and lattes are few of our favorites. Plus they also have daily specials that can't be missed. This place is normally packed during breakfast and lunch time and on the weekends. Before you leave though, be sure to grab a few of their baked goods specially a slice of their cake or cupcakes.
google avatar

Delaney S.

Yelp
Food all looked great but it was all lacking. Me and my boyfriend stopped in to grab some fast breakfast. We waited an hour for 2 sandwiches. We got a burger and the steak sandwich. The burger was definitely better then the steak sandwich but not by much. It was over cooked and the chips on it were soggy, kinda just a weird way to prepare it. The steak sandwich was super bland and really had no flavor to it. We also got home-fries which appeared to be super crispy but had no seasoning and were also soggy. Management should also probably hold a meeting about what's appropriate to wear to work. Overall disappointing coffee was good thou and our waitress was a sweetheart.

Yelp
Stopped by Henry's on a visit to Scranton. What a find. A vintage building given a trendy but tasteful facelift and serves excellent food. The hubby had the Turkey pastrami on rye...called "The Bill & Kay". The rye bread was exceptional and the sandwich came with Henrys' Home fries that were really tasty. I opted for the BLT Salad with Panzanella and added a scoop of tuna. Fabulous! The iced tea was freshly brewed and was some of the best iced tea I ever had. Must be that fresh NEPA water! Hubby also had a frothy cappuccino that hit the spot before his afternoon siesta! This place is delightful for breakfast and lunch. Hope we get to visit NEPA again soon and this lovely little spot!

Tim M.

Yelp
Do y'all know that you have a world class bakery, coffee and restaurant in Scranton?? If you have not tried Henry's On Clay you are definitely missing out! We are from out of state but my wife and I had the great pleasure of enjoying the excellent offerings at this quaint, hospitable, delightful restaurant. The Pot Pie soup was extraordinary. My wife said it was the best soup she had ever had. She also ordered a latte which was delicious. I ordered the Henry Carl sandwich. It was a taste explosion! So delicious!! The extra thick turkey meat was an unexpected surprise, no restaurant does this! The bacon was tender and the sauce was scrumptious. We finished with the Dutch Baby. Again, phenomenal!! Perfectly cooked, with fresh berries and Greek yogurt. recommended! Conner was our server and did such a great job of making us feel welcome and answering all of our questions. He also made the coffee drinks and did the coffee art.

Paige D.

Yelp
Wow!! What a find. From the back mountain area spent the day in Scranton and found this place on Yelp. The three of us each had a delicious meal. My grilled cheese was melt in your mouth. What an exciting menu!! Thank you for the great service and great food. Amazing spot!!

Judy K.

Yelp
Ate at Henry's on Clay this week. Had a chicken salad sandwich on a roll. It was very tasty. Home fries were also very flavorful

Andrea F.

Yelp
Loved it here! Definitely lived up to my expectations. Came on a rainy Sunday for brunch around 11 but was told it would be a 45 minute wait, so we killed some time at Zummo's Cafe for a bit. Ended up being closer to an hour and ten minute wait, which we were fine with since we were in no rush. The place is very small and the rain prevented outdoor seating, so the wait time at peak brunch rush hour was understandable. Worth the wait! We ordered the infamous home fries to split, and a falafel sandwich and steak sandwich with sides of Greek salads for our entrees. The home fries with Dijon were sooo good, as was my steak sandwich (served with blue cheese on a brioche bun). Everything is fresh and made well, and the menu has a ton of interesting breakfast, brunch & lunch items for those craving savory or sweet. Adorable decor inside and friendly staff. Wish they were open for dinner, but definitely would return for lunch again.

Yelp
Lovely wait staff and excellent food made this the perfect breakfast/lunch spot with collies to go.
