I will start by saying that I honestly did not know what to expect from the shared bathroom situation and was a little apprehensive. The room was small but functional, a bit more space for luggage would have been nice as this was the end of a 9 day trip. The bed was comfortable but the pillows awful, and I massively struggled to sleep with only one. The room was a bit too warm and of a night the floodlights which make the hotel look beautifully lit up of a night kept me awake until I found the blind. These are only minor gripes as the room on the whole was very clean. I would like less faffy items in there as books left there etc took up usable shelf space, there’s plenty of space downstairs to keep the books and people could choose to take these to the room like a library rather than using up shelf space in the room. Plus this was the only things that felt less clean the books and doilies etc as they looked like dust traps. Now the bathrooms….these surprised me. Not once did I struggle to find a bathroom to use, no queuing, and the bathrooms and showers were really clean! A bit of mold forming under window etc but it IS an old building. The decor is a bit questionable at times. My friend was creeped out by it as she said it felt like a horror movie but I loved it for being weirdly different and honouring its history. Yes it could be done in a bit more of a polished way but it felt like I was staying in a antique/thrift store and that is my vibe 😆. The location is beautiful with stunning views, and great activities on the doorstep such as the Fontana which you get discount at. Parking is free and easy. The food smelt great even though we didn’t eat there. There is free games and activities such as chess, darts and pool to play if recharging batteries or waiting on groups of friends. Our room price was good for what we had. I would come again as the building is beautiful, location stunning and a piece of history for the area but next time maybe go for a private room to try it out. Oh and staff were great. Friendly and welcoming.
