After a long time, I was so happy to find a hotel that lived up to the old principles of elegance and comfort for guests, rather than fancy designs and high tech facilities.
Herbert Park Hotel ticked all my boxes. The rooms were as spacious as described. The bathroom was very well proportioned. The furniture was elegant, timeless and served its purpose.
Our room had all that was needed. Though we did have to ask for a kettle and tea mugs, which were supplied almost immediately. The view from our window was nothing exciting. After a long time, I found a hotel with enough clothes hangers in the wardrobe. I did not have to ask for extras. The light switches perhaps need more rewiring. The bathroom ( ours had a walk in shower, as requested by me) could perhaps do with some more caddy space in the shower area, for guests own toiletries. Also a couple more grab bars in the shower area might be good investment.
The whole hotel is beautifully clean. Public spaces, including the busy check in area, are well designed and appointed.
Breakfast had several hot and cold choices. Except that, every day, breakfast was the same with the same items on offer. I do notice this trend in many of the hotels. However, the tables were generously proportioned and beautifully laid out.
The staff, all of them without fail, in every area of service, is superb. You can sense their pride in whatever they do. They make it clear that they are truly happy to serve you. At breakfast, when they remember your preferences from the second day itself, it speaks volumes about the caring attitude.
I found nothing wrong with the location. But then we are senior citizens, no longer prioritizing bright lights and action! We found several great eating places within easy walking distance. Taxis were very easy to hail and the general peace all around was welcome.
I thank each and every person at Herbert Park for making our stay so happy and hope we shall be able to visit again.
