Herdade do Reguenguinho, Alentejo, Portugal - Explore & Book

"This stretch of the lower Alentejo bears a distinct resemblance to Australia: gum trees, red soil, blue sky, dry savannah, a gentle ripple in the hills. It's fabulously undeveloped. At the herdade (farm) you find a distinctly cool B&B think surfer chic in the country. You're a short hop from the Atlantic rollers and waves of sand which line Portugal's southwest coast; but miles from anywhere. Ricardo quit the 9-to-5 of Lisbon and set up home near his beloved waves. He converted 2 family barns, painted them orange, chiselled out a very funky courtyard in between and infused the place with a warm minimalist elegance. He now runs the coolest place in the district and never gets the time to surf! If you want to learn, he can point you in the right direction, but life here encourages a certain laziness. There’s an infinity pool overlooking fields, hammocks to snooze in, orange bean bags in the courtyard, sun loungers on the terrace, even a shaded daybed. Cool tunes play inside, at night guests chat by moonlight. Rooms are a treat: lots of colour, crisp white linen, roofs open to the rafters. Highs We found it to be stylish but informal, a seriously hip country B&B The funky courtyard and pool with its views of the fields The west coast of Portugal is a Mecca for surfers You’re lost in the country; come for the sound of silence Lows Although the road passes quietly, you hear the odd car zoom past at night The land at the front was a little scruffy, but you don’t notice once you’re in Standard Rooms are quite small, though perfectly attractive Cercal doesn’t have much to offer. If you want some night life, you’ll have to drive to it" - Tom Bell

We stayed in one of the "palafitas". The house is beautifully located, a bit secluded so that one can fully relax without any nuisance. The house has a terrace with deck chairs and a small table with chairs. Inside there is a big, comfortable bed with a jacuzzi right next to big glass doors so that one can enjoy the landscape while relaxing in a jacuzzi. The sunset is absolutely stunning there. |In the main house there is a swimming pool with deck chairs, a lot of places to sit down with your book or just enjoy the sun. I would describe the place as bohemian chic.|We always had breakfast there, which is included in the price of the accommodation. The breakfast is good, especially for a sweet tooth. Eggs are not included in the price but can be ordered extra. We also had a snack next to the pool one day, which was also fine. |Wifi is only available in the main house.

Our daughter booked this beautiful guest house for us. We were en route to Lagos and she felt that this would be the perfect stop for us all. WOW!! What an amazingly beautiful "farm" guesthouse this was!! The property could easily be featured in an architectural magazine. Every bedroom, lounge, dining room and guest areas are cleverly furnished creating a home from home atmosphere. The outdoor patios and the pool area will blow your mind...and the view!! The staff were amazing and friendly. Great buffet style breakfasts are served. Ideal honeymoon destination. It was our 40th anniversary and my 75th birthday to boot!

Amazing place and great people.|We stayed here on our honeymoon and it was perfect. The bath with those lovely views is such a beautiful touch. It’s so relaxing and you can even order food (try the pancakes). If you are looking for peaceful, relaxing holiday, you have found the right place.|Will definitely be booking again.

We stayed for 2 nights here, we stayed in one of the palafite bungalows, allowing to have more privacy (they are about 200 m from the main house). They also have a nice view and a sunken bath tub.||||Welcome was ok, we got some good info, breakfast is all together at a large table, we expected some more choice in the morning. The outside area around the pool is in need for some TLC.||||We did like our stay but were less happy with the fact that the water pressure sometimes stopped (very annoying when showering) and also when you want to fill up your bath tub (which we couldn’t do on both days), a comment we also read in some previous reviews, shame as the bath tub should be one of the highlights of this place..

Very good stay for 3 nights. Small room for first night and then one of the large rooms when they became available. Helpful but discreet owner. Wonderful staff who served breakfast and knocked up other meals as and when we needed them. Great recommendations for nearby restaurants. And we loved the donkey!

What is there not to love about Herdade do Reguinguinho? It's a place like a tender caress. It will soothe you - a beautiful property nestled in between soft Alentejan hills and open fields. It will make you dream, stargazing at night listening to the crickets. It will inspire you with its wonderful and warm interior design. It will set you on a path of further discoveries with Suzanna and Ricardo's beautiful collection of albums about foreign lands. We simply loved this place, its tranquillity, the discreet yet efficient way it is run, the stylish accommodation, the copious breakfast, the personal attention, the child-friendly atmosphere, the feeling of spaciousness, the beautiful pool area and the great staff!||The location is very convenient, within easy reach from Lisbon, yet in the very heart of Alentejo. You will need a car to be able to explore the sweet little towns and villages around. Opt for a longer stay and you could alternate day trips to Vila Nova do Milfontes, Zambujeira do mar and other local places of interest with relaxation, do nothing time in the Herdade, with a book in a swing or by the pool. ||Fantastic discovery!

We had a wonderful time at this fantastic resort in the middle of the Alentejo. We stayed at the suite Sixth Sense, which we can highly recommend. As an alternative we recommend the palafites, as they have an amazing view.
