26 of the World's Most Astounding Abandoned Resorts

"Though it was originally built as a retreat house for friars of the Dominican Order, much of this dilapidated building’s history has been anything but peaceful. The Dominican Hill Retreat House was built in 1913 atop a hill in the famed Philippine City of Pines. With the outbreak of World War II, it became a camp for refugees escaping the Japanese army, but was eventually invaded. The Japanese secret police, the Kempeitai, committed terrible acts of brutality, massacring, raping, and torturing many of the inhabitants, and even decapitating nuns and priests.  In the 1970s, the wartorn building was converted to the sophisticated and beautiful Diplomat Hotel, but the hotel was shut down by the ’80s, and left abandoned. The deserted, deteriorating building became infamous for being one of the most haunted ruins in the country. Various folklore and ghost stories surround its gray and washed-out red walls. Many people saw headless apparitions at night, and reported hearing screams, cries, banging on doors, and other strange and desperate noises. Some believe the building is haunted by the restless spirits of its grim history. The supposedly haunted ruin attracted an influx of visitors, and the old hotel is now under rehabilitation by the national government as a Heritage and Nature Park. The hotel has two floors and an accessible roof deck with a panoramic view of the city, and its west wing has been cleaned and remodeled as an event space. It’s now a place to experience both beauty and eeriness in Baguio City’s cold climate." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

The trip was smooth since there was no traffic and barely any people around. It was quiet and peaceful, which let me enjoy the place even more. Even with its ghosty background, it didn’t feel scary at all. It was actually calming to just be there and take in the silence.

Nice place to chill and see and buy local arts and craft. T The food stalls have a lot of variety. There is open mic wherein anyone can sing or do some spoken poetry. Though there aren't a lot of tables, there is a long bench at the side. The only thing not good is the public restroom.

It was a pleasant experience visiting the place. It really looks haunted upon visiting as it was already abandoned but with a rich history. The hotel was now closed for entry because of previous sightings before and you can only see now the inside from the outside. Since it became a park, you can now buy stuffs from there like foods, souvenirs, etc. All in all, it is a great experience. ❤️

An uncanny experience because of its backstory, but it is also a good one because of how interesting it is and how elegant the hotel design is. The creepy vibe isn't that visible because there are stores there with a lighthearted vibe. There are also other things within this area, I recommend going since it's a really complex experience.

Just wrapped up a memorable (and slightly terrifying) visit to the infamous Diplomat Hotel in Baguio with my mom, sister, brother-in-law, and niece! If you're looking for your typical hotel stay with fluffy towels and mints on your pillow, this ain't it. But if you want a dose of history, stunning views, and the very real possibility of a ghostly encounter, buckle up! 😱 This isn't a functioning hotel anymore, which honestly just adds to the eerie charm. Perched on Dominican Hill, the structure itself is a character. Originally a seminary and then a hotel, its most chilling chapters unfolded during WWII, when it served as a refuge but also witnessed immense tragedy. Tales of beheadings, torture, and a general air of sorrow are said to linger, and you can absolutely feel it. My history buff side was fascinated, while my inner horror fan was doing a happy dance. 🤩 So, did we see ghosts? My niece is convinced she saw a shadowy figure dart across a hallway, which sent her into a fit of giggles (and then a fit of hiding behind my mom). 😂 My mom, ever the brave one, kept claiming she felt "cold spots" even though it was a perfectly warm day. The best part? My brother-in-law, who was initially scoffing at the ghost stories, nearly jumped out of his skin when a gust of wind slammed a door shut. 🌬️🚪 Priceless! We heard whispers, saw shadows that probably weren't just shadows, and generally leaned into the creepiness. It was genuinely atmospheric and a fantastic backdrop for some family-friendly scares and a lot of laughter. 🤣 If you're into urban exploration, history, or just looking for something different to do in Baguio that will give you chills and thrills (and maybe a few laughs at your family's expense), the Diplomat Hotel is a must-visit. It offers a unique historical experience and panoramic views of Baguio City from the top, making for loads of photo opportunities. 📸 You certainly won't run out of stories to tell after a visit here! Just maybe don't go alone at night... unless you're feeling extra brave! 😉 #DiplomatHotelReview #BaguioPhilippines #HauntedHistory #FamilyTravel #SpookyAdventures #PhilippineHaunts #TravelReview #GhostHunting #BaguioCity #MustVisit #HumorAndHorror #DominicanHill #FilipinoCulture #CreepyPlaces 🇵🇭👻😂

The Diplomat Hotel is a historic, abandoned hotel located atop Dominican Hill, offering stunning views of the city. This 33-bedroom hotel was initially a Dominican retreat house and seminary before being transformed into a hotel in the 1970s. Its unique architecture and rich history make it a popular tourist destination. The hotel is famous for its paranormal activity and eerie atmosphere, attracting ghost hunters and thrill-seekers. 📍Diplomat Hotel, Baguio City

There is a small fee to enter the premises. Unfortunately, you can no longer enter the old hotel building, but just roam around the place. Usually a tourist area, the place is does not need reservation. Walk ins are welcome. Toilet is also available inside. The heritage hill is big but there are also certain areas that is restricted from the public.

I wish I could give this place 5 stars, but I was extremely disappointed after finding out that they no longer allow people to enter the building. What's the point if we can't bring the spirits home? I came for the horror, but all I got was an abandoned building being used as storage. Sad. It gets three stars because the area still had trees and a good view.
