Heritance Kandalama

I have been in many hotels around Sri Lanka this was the best experience I have ever had. It’s like staying in the middle of the jungle. Fantastic service from the staff and the management. The international buffet was delicious. If you like nature this is the best place in Sri Lanka to go to! There are also nature activities like bird watching, boat ride, elephant watching and village life experience etc. that is both informational and entertaining. Highly recommend.

We stayed at Heritance Kandalama for two nights, and once again it was an absolutely wonderful and magical experience. The hotel itself is stunning, seamlessly blending into its natural surroundings. The staff were exceptional—warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful at every level, from the concierge to the housekeeping team. Their hospitality truly made us feel welcome. The food was extraordinary, with the Sri Lankan cuisine being a real highlight. Compliments especially to the Food & Beverage Manager for maintaining such outstanding quality. This was our second stay at Heritance Kandalama; our first was in 2011, and it was superb then as well. We are delighted to say the hotel has maintained its excellence over the years. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. Keep up the fantastic work.

A fantastic place to go for any nature lover. There is plenty of activities to do and the service was impeccable. The rooms were also great with the views of the lake and spotless cleaning. Food was delicious and had a large variety that could cater to even the most fussiest eaters! There were many excursions such as bird watching and boat rides. It was also not too far from sigiriya. A special thanks to all the staff who looked after us very well.

Wonderful Hospitality at Kandalama Hotel We had a lovely stay at Kandalama Hotel, made even more special by the genuine care and professionalism of the staff. During our visit, an unexpected situation occurred near the changing rooml area. The team handled it calmly and efficiently, ensuring comfort and arranging medical support without delay. Their kindness and attention truly gave us peace of mind. A big thank you to the General Manager and the entire team for their personal care, and special thanks to Chathuranga and Gimhani for regularly checking in on us. We’d also like to appreciate Gamini, Lalith, and Sarath for their experience and thoughtful support. The food was excellent — thanks to Chef Shammu, Jagdesh, and the entire culinary team. We truly enjoyed every meal. With its stunning natural surroundings, peaceful atmosphere, and the beautiful flute music in the evenings, Kandalama Hotel truly reflects the best of Sri Lankan hospitality. Highly recommended, and we look forward to visiting again!

Stunning five star hotel with its wings spread from Dambulla to Sigiriya, built preserving nature at its best( and lies hidden among the greenery), providing spectacular views from your room; you will be greeted by nature from your windows, with the creepers hanging and views of the Kandalama lake with animals who visit it. Occasionally, monkey families also will hang around your balcony and make your visit memorable. A place you should visit having studied their various activities to follow: we could not visit Sigiriya or Pidurangala, which lie nearby. But, they offer you rides early morning at 5am and back. Amongst many other activities like hikes and trails, the Bawa Tour was very informative and Avishka, a naturalist from the hotel guided us with an interesting tour of how Mr Geoffrey Bawa designed this beauty. You will experience a variety of food, above par service, Sri Lankan cultural experience and many other luxuries inside rooms that are designed to make your stay comfortable. Planning to visit again with more time to enjoy this beauty and its vicinity!

All the staff members were incredibly friendly and always greeted us with pleasant smiles, which made our time there so easy, relaxing, and comfortable. Had a wonderful stay at Heritance Kandalama. The surrounding nature is absolutely breathtaking, and the hotel blends beautifully into the landscape. The pools are amazing, with stunning views, and we were lucky enough to see elephants during our stay, which made the experience truly special. Also, there were monkeys playing right outside the room. The food was really good with plenty of variety, and the service was excellent throughout. We were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade, and the view of Kandalama Lake from our room was simply beautiful. A perfect place to relax and reconnect with nature.

The location is absolutely stunning — surrounded by lush jungle with beautiful lake views that make the experience feel peaceful and special. It’s the kind of place where you can truly relax and disconnect. A special mention to Ravic and Rebecca, who took incredible care of us and made our stay even more memorable with their attentiveness and kindness.
