Hermes Hotel, Athens, Greece - Explore & Book

"Plaka is the historic centre of Athens, a hotch-potch of neoclassical tiled houses that tumble down (and tumble is the word) below the Acropolis. Strict conservation laws make hotel conversions practically impossible, which means that you are obliged to stay in a modern purpose-built hotel on the edge of the pedestrian area. But that need not be a hardship: this one, like so many of its neighbours, received a total refurb in the run-up to the 2004 Olympics. It may not have ground-breaking design or historic charm, but it’s spotlessly clean, stylishly furnished and perfectly placed for a quick raid on the Acropolis and Plaka. Some of the 45 rooms have balconies looking down on narrow Apollonos street or up to the Acropolis. (The higher the floor, the better the view, of course.) Mini in-room refrigerators (so you can BYO drinks) and backgammon boards in the lounge are welcome touches. Air-con and soundproofing ensure you'll sleep well. The generous breakfast buffet is designed to fortify you for the sightseeing plan designed by the multilingual staff. Highs Surprisingly peaceful for such a central location - on the edge of Plaka, and 3 blocks from Syntagma Square (metro and airport bus) Lovely roof terrace, and a stylish bar in the lobby Breakfasts are better than average - and plentiful Reasonable rates (Nov-March) 'PR' staff approach guests during breakfast each day to distribute city maps and help organise personalised sightseeing itineraries Lows Most rooms are small, with little storage space, and double rooms have twin beds pushed together The lift is even smaller - one person at a time When we last revisited we felt the décor was looking a bit tired" - Michael Cullen

In general this is a good hotel because of its central location, near Mitropoleous street, which runs parallel to Ermou street and because it is well kept.Room was spacious with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was good and included a coffee machine for expresso, cappuccino, etc..We had a superior room, with a bath, which would be better if replaced by a shower. Toiletries were available. The hotel has a luggage room which is very useful. All staff was polite and professional, but I would highlight Mrs Margarita at the reception, who was very affable. It was a good stay and we can recommend this hotel.

This hotel is hard to beat on price, location and the included breakfast. Syntagma square/train station is a 5 minute walk, the acropolis 10-15 minutes and lots of shops/ restaurants starting a block away. The rooms are small, but if you’re just looking for a place to sleep and spend most of the day out and about, it’s fine. Bed was comfortable but the pillows where very flat. Breakfast was great, wide selection of American and European foods. We spoke with 5 different staff members and only one was particularly helpful. I didn’t get her name, she worked nights while we were there and was the youngest woman employee we saw. She was excellent, had great recommendations on places to eat, suggestions to alter our itinerary to make things easier and was just over all helpful. My wife and I got bit by something every single night we were here. We checked the bed and saw no evidence of bed bugs and the bites were not indicative either (we’ve dealt with bed bugs in the past and know what to look for). However when we brought the bites up to the staff we were met with resistance. They said it was a reaction to a food allergy (neither of us have any food allergies), they said we got bit while we were outside and had a reaction hours later, my wife was told she was lying about seeing, photographing and squishing a bug in our room. I understand they can’t really do anything about spider/mosquito bites but I did not like being told it was a food allergy and to not worry about it.

Horrible view. The window has no meaning at this point.Breakfast has no variety and the coffee was especially bad.The receptionists were kind most of the time. The bedding looks so old, not good for hygiene if you clean it everyday.Only body and hand towel provided, the midsized(for hair/face) not provided. Of course no shower robe. Everything in this hotel is too old. Need renovation.

Clean hotel in a good location. Breakfast is a little lacking. But great location. Beware the tiny elevator.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. The amenities were top-notch, and the view from our balcony was breathtaking. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing getaway!

Terrible hotel. Very old, not clean at all. Full of mosquitos were in the room and nothing to prevent on the window. A bare and small room without main hotel things like slippers, napkins or maybe one little bottle of water. Breakfast was not good at all, although our room included, we never ate breakfast after we saw. We ate outside for the 5 days we stayed there. Staff not helpful and have very cold attitude. I have been going to Greece for more than 10 years but this was the worst experience. Dont reconmend at all. Only the location was very central but you can find many better ones in that neighborhood.

Hermes Hotel in Athens is a great option for anyone looking for a comfortable, convenient stay in the heart of the city. While the rooms are on the smaller side, it's important to note that it's a city hotel, so space is typical for the area. What really stands out here is the friendly and professional staff, who go above and beyond to ensure you feel welcome. The location is fantastic, with most of Athens' top attractions just a short walk away. Plus, the hotel is surrounded by a variety of great restaurants and bars, perfect for exploring the local scene. Overall, it's an ideal place to stay for a few days while discovering Athens.

We stayed at Hermes in August and was very pleased with our time there. Rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was very nice and helpful helping us arrange cabs, giving directions and recommending places to eat. The hotel stored our luggage at no charge while we went island hopping for 4 days. Great breakfast buffet and awesome service. The best thing is the location which made everything accessible via walking. Highly recommended!
