On Location: How HBO’s ‘Catherine The Great’ Retraces the Russian Ruler’s Footsteps
"Lithuania has amazing lakes which a lot of people swim in, but the standout place for me was somewhere called the Hermitage Pavilion—a small palace in the grounds of Catherine’s Palace where we were given unprecedented access to film. Inside the pavilion was a specially designed private dining room featuring a “table volante"—literally a flying table—where food and drink would be delivered to guests at the table from the floor below by a super advanced lift system operated by unseen servants. It was handy for Catherine as it kept the eyes and ears of the servants away from the gossip and goings on of her guests."
Absolutely beautiful place and very interesting excursion, but only in Russian language. You have to stay in a queue and pay separately for it about 400 roubles for adults and 100 for children. You can see the amazing mechanical lifting tables in action, but make sure to ask to see that, as they have have separate excursions with and without the show.

Start with it! And make it to the lifting table session. At the beginning of the tour you will watch a video which is very helpful to understand Catherine’s palace. I am so impressed by this Hermitage!

A fairy tale. Very well maintained and cheap to visit considering the time you spend and things you can see
