Named after King Herodion, this is his burial site. This archeological site is built on top of a man made hill ordered by the late king, doubling the hieght of the original mountain, as he wanted his burial place to overlook the Judean desert, and on good days you may even get a glance of the Dead Sea. Dont miss the short informative introductory movie prior to your entrance, explaining this important piece of history and putting everything in perspective. There is a somewhat steep hike up the mountain. On the site itself, climb up to the top of the walls to get some of the most beautiful views. Exit through the cave, which does feature an uneven large staircase, but is well worth it. The grave itself is lost, but if youre an archeology enthusiast, you will enjoy the architecture , the columns, and the overall importance of this site. Dont forget a hat and a bottle of water.
This is not a very large scaled site, and an hour should be enough. Mind that the W.C is present at the entrance of the site only where there is also a small gift shop that has few snacks.
