"Heroes’ Square One of Budapest 's most history-laden spots, the enormous Heroes' Square is framed by art museums near the City Park. But the main focal point here is Millennium Memorial, a tall column and colonnade structure completed in 1905 that commemorates the Hungarian conquering of the area a thousand years before (hence the name) and the founding of Hungary in 1896. The statues decorating the memorial depict the seven chieftains of the Magyars, and the figure atop the column is the archangel Gabriel. Fun fact: The first underground subway in continental Europe, built in 1896, terminated here. Be sure to visit at night because the square is even more majestic when lit up."

If you are heading to Vajdahunyad Castle or returning from it or another place close by, you should make a stop here to take a look at those magnificent statues of great heroes. The whole square makes you feel the respect towards those heroes. It is definitely worthy for a visit.

An impressive and historically rich landmark. Heroes’ Square stands out with its grand scale and striking architectural details – the colonnade, the statue of Archangel Gabriel, and the figures of Hungary’s founding leaders are truly remarkable. A perfect spot for a walk and some great photos. It’s right next to City Park (Városliget), so it’s worth spending more time exploring the area. The lighting in the evening gives it an extra charm. A must-see when visiting Budapest!

A well maintained square with the heroes of Hungary looking down at you. From Arpad to King/Saint Stephen, you have them all. It takes you through a journey of Hungarian history. The square is what you see first as you step out of the station. It is even beautiful at night.

A very large square with impressive monument and statues. A nod to the seven founding tribes of Hunary. Not much to do aside from take pictures; couldnt see any information plaques or stands. Perhaps more goes on during summer, seems an ideal spot for a festival or market.

I absolutely loved visiting Heroes' Square (Hősök tere) in Budapest! What a magnificent open space—grand, historic, and full of energy. We stumbled upon it while walking toward the thermal spas and were amazed by its sheer size and beauty. The square itself is impressive, with its towering statues and grand column, but the surrounding area is just as lovely. The peaceful gardens nearby are perfect for a stroll, offering a nice contrast to the square’s grandeur. It’s a great place to take in the atmosphere, snap some photos, or just relax for a while. If you’re visiting Budapest, I’d definitely recommend stopping by Heroes' Square—whether you’re exploring intentionally or, like us, happily surprised by it. Don’t miss the charming gardens around it too

One of the top attractions of Budapest for Hungarians and foreigners alike. P.S. For some odd reason, the officials in charge thought it a good idea to remove the centerpiece, Archangel Gabriel, probably for restoration, in the middle of tourist season. Doh!

Impressive square with grand statues and lots of historical significance. Great for photos, but the area feels a bit empty unless there’s an event going on.

Heroes’ Square is one of the most iconic spots in Budapest and definitely worth a visit! The massive statues of Hungary’s historical leaders are super impressive, and the whole square feels grand and powerful. It’s a great place to learn a bit about Hungarian history while taking some amazing photos. The surrounding area is beautiful too—you’ve got the City Park right behind it, Vajdahunyad Castle nearby, and the Széchenyi Baths within walking distance. I loved how open and spacious it was, perfect for a stroll or just sitting and taking it all in. Whether you’re into history, photography, or just sightseeing, Heroes’ Square is a must-see!
